In this booklet compiled from Life-study of John, Witness Lee considers the case of the adulterous woman in John 8. This chapter reveals that among human beings there are two things: a religion and a living Person, the great I Am. Through this case, we see that “the religion of the law, as represented by the temple, cannot set people free from sin and its death, but that the Lord Jesus as the I Am, becoming the Son of Man lifted upon the cross for the serpent-poisoned people, can do what religion and law cannot do. The religion of law-keeping is versus the great I Am” (p. 1).

Life Study Of John written by Witness Lee and has been published by Living Stream Ministry this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-26 with Religion categories.

Although the language of the Gospel of John is simple, this book is deep and profound. In this life-study, Witness Lee shows that the Bible is a book of life and building and that the Gospel of John also is focused on life and building. The Gospel of John reveals that in Christ, the Word of God, is life; that He came that man may have life; and that He Himself is life. Furthermore, this Gospel shows that Christ is the bread of life; that He has the water of life; that He gives life to man; and that He even lives in man as life. The Gospel of John also unfolds the divine building. In 1:14, we see that Christ in the flesh was the tabernacle for God’s habitation among men on earth. In 2:19-21, Christ’s human body was also the temple of God on earth. Through His death, His body in the flesh was destroyed, and in His resurrection, He raised up His mystical body, the church, to be the enlarged temple of God. This is God’s building in the universe. Furthermore, this Gospel reveals that the believers are to be built up to be the Father’s house, the dwelling place of the Triune God. This is adequately and fully disclosed in John 14. According to that chapter, all the believers will be built together as God’s eternal habitation with many abodes. Thus, as the Lord’s last prayer in John 17 indicates, all His believers must be built up into one. The first section of the Gospel of John, composed of the first 13 chapters, is on the coming of the Lord Jesus to bring God into man and to declare God to man. The second section, composed of the last eight chapters, is on the Lord’s going in death and coming back in resurrection to bring man into God and to abide in and with man for God’s building.

Abandon dead, dry, religious rule-keeping and embrace the promise of being truly known and deeply loved. Jefferson Bethke burst into the cultural conversation with a passionate, provocative poem titled "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus." The 4-minute video became an overnight sensation, with 7 million YouTube views in its first 48 hours (and 23+ million in a year). Bethke's message clearly struck a chord with believers and nonbelievers alike, triggering an avalanche of responses running the gamut from encouraged to enraged. In his New York Times bestseller Jesus > Religion, Bethke unpacks similar contrasts that he drew in the poem--highlighting the difference between teeth gritting and grace, law and love, performance and peace, despair, and hope. With refreshing candor, he delves into the motivation behind his message, beginning with the unvarnished tale of his own plunge from the pinnacle of a works-based, fake-smile existence that sapped his strength and led him down a path of destructive behavior. Along the way, Bethke gives you the tools you need to: Humbly and prayerfully open your mind Understand Jesus for all that he is View the church from a brand-new perspective Bethke is quick to acknowledge that he's not a pastor or theologian, but simply an ordinary, twenty-something who cried out for a life greater than the one for which he had settled. On this journey, Bethke discovered the real Jesus, who beckoned him with love beyond the props of false religion. Praise for Jesus > Religion: "Jeff's book will make you stop and listen to a voice in your heart that may have been drowned out by the noise of religion. Listen to that voice, then follow it--right to the feet of Jesus." --Bob Goff, author of New York Times bestsellers Love Does and Everybody, Always "The book you hold in your hands is Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz meets C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity meets Augustine's Confessions. This book is going to awaken an entire generation to Jesus and His grace." --Derwin L. Gray, lead pastor of Transformation Church, author of Limitless Life: Breaking Free from the Labels That Hold You Back

The Ancient City is Fustel de Coulanges' superb investigation of life during classical antiquity; a culture he felt rested and flourished upon religious observance. This fascinating history offers the reader ideas of how day-to-day life in Ancient Rome and Greece was sustained for centuries. Coulanges covers each major topic in sequence, beginning with the crucial assertion that religion what was held classical life together. This is swiftly followed by examples of customs and morals that defined interpersonal and familial life; marriage; adoption; rights of property and assets to name but some. Coulanges progresses to discuss the physical city. How a town would grow in size, what amenities and institutions would appear, and how religion so greatly impacted the citizen's life. Governance, through edicts, criminal and civil law, and the ruling council of a given city is examined. Latterly, we hear the importance of the class system; conflict between the lower classes - or plebiscite - and the nobility.

Not illustrated. 1899 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER XI IDEAS OF GOD The underlying unity of the world's religions has been traced through the various ceremonies, sacraments, and dogmas, but the object of this work would scarcely be accomplished, without also demonstrating the similarities in the moral teaching, which each religion in turn has inculcated. In spite of the necessarily wide variation in the standard of ethics, in different lands, and at different stages of the world's progress, the marked resemblances of the religious teachings will supply still further evidence in detail, while the foregoing chapters have already indicated the general trend, for in every one of man's religions, may be apparent the consciousness of sin and evil, and the need of some higher and better life. On approaching the subject of Ethics, we have unfortunately to face the fact that literary records of all the great religions are not available, and in such cases the traditions handed down, or the description of the rites that were practised, form the only material from which inferences can be drawn as to the character of the teaching. On some of the long-buried tablets of Nineveh and Babylon, there have, it is true, been found hymns to the gods, and texts dealing with cosmogony and magic, but those which have so far been deciphered, deal mainly with historical events, or with the minutiae of private life. Concerning the ethical ideas of Mexico and Peru, we are equally in the dark, while the sculptured records which alone remain in these countries, give no such hope of further light, as do the still undeciphered inscriptions of Babylon. So too with the Celtic and Scandinavian faiths: some few literary records of these may be found, but they are embodied in works written in Christian times, works...

The First Amendment Religion Clause: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” This book takes an in-depth look at the religion clause portion of the First Amendment using historical documents and letters. In chapter one examples are given of the historical reasons for why the Framers of the First Amendment (the Founding Fathers) thought it was necessary to list religion as part of the Bill of Rights in the manner that they did. In chapter two documentation is presented showing how they applied it during their times of service in government. The application of the 14th Amendment is examined along with whether or not it should be applied to the 1st Amendment based on the history of both. In chapter three a complete analysis is made of Thomas Jefferson’s “wall of separation” letter, and in chapter four an in-depth investigation is taken into Jefferson’s Virginian Act for Establishing Religious Freedom, James Madison’s Memorial and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments, and Madison’s Detached Memoranda essay on religion and government interaction. These documents, along with others examined in this book, display the Founding Fathers’ views as to why there is a religious clause, and what its proper application should be between church (that is, religion) and state. This book also contains present day solutions for how the government could act legally and constitutionally regarding religion (and related religious books) and toward those who claim religious reasons as their motivation to physically harm others. History reveals the continued purpose and need for the Religion Clause in the Bill of Rights.
