Epic in scope, intimate in detail, heartbreaking in its human drama, Former People is the first book to recount the history of the nobility caught up the maelstrom of the Bolshevik Revolution and the creation of Stalin’s Russia. It is a book filled with chilling tales of looted palaces, burning estates, of desperate flights in the night from marauding bands of thugs and Red Army soldiers, of imprisonment, exile, and execution. It is the story of how a centuries’-old elite famous for its glittering wealth, its service to the empire, its promotion of the arts and culture, was dispossessed and destroyed along with the rest of old Russia. Drawing on the private archives of two great families – the Sheremetovs and the Golitsyns – it is also a story of survival and accommodation, of how many of the tsarist ruling class, so-called 'former people', managed to find a place for themselves and their families in the hostile world of the Soviet Union. It reveals, too, how even at the darkest depths of the terror, daily life went on - men and women fell in love, children were born, friends gathered. Ultimately, Former People is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

This book is nothing but the candid story of an ordinary engineering student. The central character of the book is named Animesh who is frustrated due to imposition of wrong vocation of Civil Engineering on him by the family members and the main person behind this imposition is his cousin brother who was a diploma engineer. The book talks of struggle, tears, labour, emotion, stress and lastly joy of Animesh. Animesh got married at an early with his girl friend Ashmita who was in her teen till then. After completion of graduation in engineering Animesh opted for post graduation in Hydraulics, though he wanted to pursue it in Environmental Engineering. The whole text talks of the love and obsession for chemistry by Animesh. He was a scholar who was wrongly placed in a wrong vocation. The book talks of the childhood, boyhood, student hood and manhood of Animesh. It is shown that in all the critical junctures of his life Animesh didn’t compromise with his choice and ethics. His fight with morbid melancholy and depression is written in a very simple language. It s highlighted in the book that a person can be truly successful if he gets his true vocation. In student hood Animesh committed mistake due to his immaturity but as a post graduate engineer he didn’t compromise with his inner voice and he had only choice which is none else than teaching profession. There is a misconception that money makes one happy, but that wrong thought is replaced by the thought and logic which says a person can be only happy if he gets his preferred profession. The key to happiness depends upon two things, one is the profession and second is the relation of one with his/her spouse. Asmita the wife of Animesh had to struggle enormously for the stubborn nature of Animesh. The whole text is divided into one hundred and eleven chapters and various incidents are portrayed in very lucid English so that readers from all walks of life can enjoy the text. This book has the potential to transform a person who is confused or misguided about his line of study or choice of profession. The mission of the author is to show the correct path to the generations to come and awaken the dormant talent within a person which is in deep slumber due to wrong guidance and lack of counselling.

Fears Of A Setting Sun written by Dennis C. Rasmussen and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-27 with History categories.

The surprising story of how George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson came to despair for the future of the nation they had created Americans seldom deify their Founding Fathers any longer, but they do still tend to venerate the Constitution and the republican government that the founders created. Strikingly, the founders themselves were far less confident in what they had wrought, particularly by the end of their lives. In fact, most of them—including George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson—came to deem America’s constitutional experiment an utter failure that was unlikely to last beyond their own generation. Fears of a Setting Sun is the first book to tell the fascinating and too-little-known story of the founders’ disillusionment. As Dennis Rasmussen shows, the founders’ pessimism had a variety of sources: Washington lost his faith in America’s political system above all because of the rise of partisanship, Hamilton because he felt that the federal government was too weak, Adams because he believed that the people lacked civic virtue, and Jefferson because of sectional divisions laid bare by the spread of slavery. The one major founder who retained his faith in America’s constitutional order to the end was James Madison, and the book also explores why he remained relatively optimistic when so many of his compatriots did not. As much as Americans today may worry about their country’s future, Rasmussen reveals, the founders faced even graver problems and harbored even deeper misgivings. A vividly written account of a chapter of American history that has received too little attention, Fears of a Setting Sun will change the way that you look at the American founding, the Constitution, and indeed the United States itself.

Examining Japan S Lost Decades written by Yoichi Funabashi and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-10 with Social Science categories.

This book examines five features of Japan’s ‘Lost Decades’: the speed of the economic decline in Japan compared to Japan’s earlier global prowess; a rapidly declining population; considerable political instability and failed reform attempts; shifting balances of power in the region and changing relations with Asian neighbouring nations; and the lingering legacy of World War Two. Addressing the question of why the decades were lost, this book offers 15 new perspectives ranging from economics to ideology and beyond. Investigating problems such as the risk-averse behaviour of Japan’s bureaucracy and the absence of strong political leadership, the authors analyse how the delay of ‘loss-cutting policies’ led to the 1997 financial crisis and a state of political gridlock where policymakers could not decide on firm strategies that would benefit national interests. To discuss the rebuilding of Japan, the authors argue that it is first essential to critically examine Japan’s ‘Lost Decades’ and this book offers a comprehensive overview of Japan’s recent 20 years of crisis. The book reveals that the ‘Lost Decades’ is not an issue unique to the Japanese context but has global relevance, and its study can provide important insights into challenges being faced in other mature economies. With chapters written by some of the world’s leading Japan specialists and chapters focusing on a variety of disciplines, this book will be of interest to students and scholars in the areas of Japan studies, Politics, International Relations, Security Studies, Government Policy and History.
