The road to spiritual maturity is often a long and involved process that takes most people a lifetime to accomplish. I have written this book based on the Gospel of John in the hopes of helping people find their way along the road to a richly rewarding experience of Christian maturity. When we begin the journey by making a conscious decision to be a Christian person, we make a decision that will eventually affect every aspect of our lives. We each begin with a deeply varied background of ingrained cultural and family patterns that are not all in harmony with the teachings of Jesus. These patterns need to be questioned and examined by the light of Jesus's teachings. The writer of John's Gospel tells us that he wants us to have life in all its fullness, a life that will be deeply rewarding, not only for our lives now, but also in the fullness of Heaven. As we learn new ways of thinking and behaving, rich possibilities open up for us. Our prayer life transforms from a one-sided monologue to a dialogue with God. As we learn to recognize the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, wonderful opportunities present themselves that we likely never dreamed would be possible for us to participate in. As we grow in our spiritual maturity, we develop a new spiritual strength that helps us to overcome a whole variety of obstacles and difficulties that would have previously sent us running for cover. Our ability to love deepens and is enriched so that we can appreciate and enjoy all of God's creation and creatures in ways that help us to know we are in total harmony with God. Spiritual growth may take a lot of work at times, but the rewards are definitely worth the effort as we gain a solid faith in our own worth in the sight of God and begin to actively participate in the unfolding of the Kingdom of God in our midst, preparing us in new ways for our eventual arrival into the kingdom of his Heaven.
