Auden S O written by Andrew W. Hass and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-01 with Religion categories.

Explores the rise of the idea of nothing in Western modernity and how its figuration is transforming and offering new possibilities. In this groundbreaking, interdisciplinary history of ideas, Andrew W. Hass explores the ascendency of the concept of nothing into late modernity. He argues that the rise of the reality of nothing in religion, philosophy, and literature has taken place only against the decline of the concept of One: a shift from a sovereign understanding of the One (unity, universality) toward the “figure of the O”—a cipher figure that, as nonentity, is nevertheless determinant of other realities. The figuring of this O culminates in a proliferation of literary expressions of nothingness, void, and absence from 1940 to 1960, but by century’s end, this movement has shifted from linear progression to mutation, whereby religion, theology, philosophy, literature, and other critical modes of thought, such as feminism, merge into a shared, circular activity. The writer W. H. Auden lends his name to this O, his long poetic work The Sea and the Mirror an exemplary manifestation of its implications. Hass examines this work, along with that of a host of writers, philosophers, and theologians, to trace the revolutionary hermeneutics and creative space of the O, and to provide the reasoning of why nothing is now such a powerful force in the imagination of the twenty-first century, and of how it might move us through and beyond our turbulent times.

Personal Relationships And Personal Networks written by Malcolm R. Parks and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-25 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

The effort to understand personal relationships has traditionally focused on the individual characteristics of participants. Personal Relationships and Personal Networks takes this analysis a step further, focusing on research linking participants' feelings and actions within a given personal relationship to the larger social context surrounding it. Author Malcolm R. Parks expands on the idea that the initiation, development, maintenance, and dissolution of relationships are inextricably connected to each participant's social network-a perspective that allows for a better appreciation of our connection to the world, and a greater understanding our significant power as social actors. This book offers a new way to consider basic notions about how relationships form, such as how particular people meet, and how relationships are started. Among many findings, the volume demonstrates that individuals in relationships feel closer and generally more connected when they also have a greater amount of contact with the members of each other's personal networks and when they believe that network members support their relationship. Additional topics discussed include how this social context model is applicable to different types of relationships; how participants interact with network members; how social networks are involved in the deterioration of personal relationships; and what drives change in relationships. Students, researchers, and professionals in a wide variety of disciplines such as communication, psychology, sociology, anthropology, family studies, clinical psychology, public health nursing, education, and social work will find this book useful, as will anyone seeking to better understand their own personal relationships.

The Romeo Error written by Lyall Watson and has been published by Anchor this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1975 with Family & Relationships categories.

"'The only thing that makes death distinct from all other diseases and disorders is that everybody gets it,' writes Lyall Watson. Here he presents an intriguing and completely original look at our ideas of and our knowledge about that inescapable phenomenon, which, he suggests, may be only the beginning of a far more fantastic existence than what we call life. Combining fifteen years scientific research with his own theories and experiences, Watson discusses all that is known about the biology of life, and therefore of death. He explores the very real problem of deciding when death actually occurs, and considers our psychological and social attitudes toward death to show how we are programmed from childhood not to look beyond it. But death may in no way be final, he speculates, describing the many varieties of reincarnation, the activities of spiritualists, and both out-of-the-body and other-body experiences as manifestations of another realm of being. Focusing on these extraordinary happenings, The Romeo Error leaves little doubt that there is far more to both life and death than we are able to comprehend by the poor evidence of our five senses - that in fact the two may be indistinguishable, with what we call death merely a change of state, often temporary and sometimes even curable."--front and back flaps.
