On the surface the SBR appears to be an extended exercise in creative writing. Shakespeare, however, throughout his plays, reminds us that nothing is ever as it seems and this book is no exception. The discerning reader who is willing to go beyond the obvious is likely to find additional levels layered into the text. Whatyou may wonderingis this material all about? What is its raison detre? Does it have peaks and valleys or a place to hang its hat? Why arent the short stories more complicated than the skills of a cat? Does it fit into a category? In a word, no. Sara Bellum has tried to work within the comfort zone of formula writing but it was not to be. You see, the Review has always been restless and unwilling to buy into the idea that there is only one way to do things. The Review is its own genre and creativity (levity) is its center of gravity. Where does that leaves us? In short, the three volumes of the SBR have opted to make a subtly yet far reaching demand of its readers. Our intent is to prompt you to step up your creative efforts (the arts) and thus activate your higher energies. You will not be alone. Such a movement is happening globally and the SBR is proud to be a part of it.

What you won't find in The Review is a reliance of the four media favorites and we all know what they are. What you will find is an extensive library of topics most of which were written while SB was sitting on a ridge overlooking the Nile. She wanted them streamlined and sanitized and of course, such an approach begs the question; "Who would want to read them?" Anybody who is interested in a crisp, and clean and pristine trek through a land of LANGUAGE AND IDEAS. Anybody who is more intrigued by the life of the mind over our daily regimen of packaged distractions. Since their inception in 1980 for high school students, these topics have taken on a life of their own. They have expanded in quality, variety, tone, color and sheer volume. SOME ARE EVEN FUNNY. Our latest survey shows that The Sara Bellum Review covers a lot of territory and it instantly adjustable. The SBR can move with ease from the mainstream milieu to a syllabus for home schooling or read as a verbal snack while doing your laundry. The material is clean and we are certain that it will fit into your personal wordrobe.

Post Cold War Anglo American Military Intervention written by James F. D. Fiddes and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-17 with Political Science categories.

Exploring case studies from the first Gulf War to the Syria crisis, this book discusses different approaches to the use of international law and the role it plays in international power politics. Analysis of the post-Cold War overseas military involvements of Western powers has focused on their legality and legitimacy, allowing for a conflation of the concepts and distracting from the true source of international legitimacy. Demonstrating compliance with international law can be helpful, but it plays a secondary role to other, more powerful considerations such as national interest and shared national security concerns. Exploring the key drivers for decision-makers, this book identifies the impact of previous experience on the use of international law in the quest for legitimacy ahead of launching military action. Patterns in approach and of relations between close Western allies (in particular the UK and US) are identified, offering valuable lessons for future strategic decision-making. This book will appeal to scholars and students of International Relations and International Law. Think Tanks focussing on International Relations and the use of force and practitioners working in the realm of foreign policy with a focus on the UN and international law will also be interested in the study and conclusions drawn.

Launched in 1991, the Asian Yearbook of International Law is a major internationally-refereed yearbook dedicated to international legal issues as seen primarily from an Asian perspective. It is published under the auspices of the Foundation for the Development of International Law in Asia (DILA) in collaboration with DILA-Korea, the Secretariat of DILA, in South Korea. When it was launched, the Yearbook was the first publication of its kind, edited by a team of leading international law scholars from across Asia. It provides a forum for the publication of articles in the field of international law and other Asian international legal topics. The objectives of the Yearbook are two-fold. First, to promote research, study and writing in the field of international law in Asia; and second, to provide an intellectual platform for the discussion and dissemination of Asian views and practices on contemporary international legal issues. Each volume of the Yearbook contains articles and shorter notes; a section on Asian state practice; an overview of the Asian states’ participation in multilateral treaties and succinct analysis of recent international legal developments in Asia; a bibliography that provides information on books, articles, notes, and other materials dealing with international law in Asia; as well as book reviews. This publication is important for anyone working on international law and in Asian studies.

How do we frame decisions to use or abstain from military force? Who should do the killing? Do we need new paradigms to guide the use of force? And what does “victory” mean in contemporary conflict? In many ways, these are timeless questions. But they should be revisited in light of changing circumstances in the twenty-first century. The post–Cold War, post-9/11 world is one of contested and fragmented sovereignty: contested because the norm of territorial integrity has shed some of its absolute nature, fragmented because some states do not control all of their territory and cannot defeat violent groups operating within their borders. Humanitarian intervention, preventive war, and just war are all framing mechanisms aimed at convincing domestic and international audiences to go to war—or not, as well as to decide who is justified in legally and ethically killing. The international group of scholars assembled in this book critically examine these frameworks to ask if they are flawed, and if so, how they can be improved. Finally, the volume contemplates what all the killing and dying is for if victory ultimately proves elusive.
