What Are Your Solutions to Life's Questions? This is not your typical book. Here, you will find 365 questions designed to open up your mind to think about yourself and your place in the world in new ways. With these questions, you may come to powerful realizations that will help you to improve yourself, the people around you, and maybe even the world. Most self-development books present you with solutions to common problems. This can be helpful, but what if those solutions work for most people, but not you? Perhaps what you need is a book of questions to help stimulate you to find useful solutions for your unique situation. Maybe you always had the solutions deep down somewhere inside of you, and you just needed the right questions to help guide you to them. When you do the work of pursuing your answers to these Questions, you will be rewarded with a breakthrough in understanding your life, your place in the world, and the path that you were destined for. Understand that there is no single right answer, no one perspective that is right, there is only your personal truth that you must reveal to yourself. In Question Yourself, the authors give you the credit that with your knowledge, background and experiences, and with the right questions, you will be able to discover solutions to your life's troubles. Look inside, deeper and deeper into yourself, and you may be surprised at the power and abilities you always possessed. You may even discover new parts of yourself you never knew existed. Authors Dave Edelstein (A.B., Philosophy from Harvard University) and I. C. Robledo (M.S., Industrial-Organizational Psychology from University of Oklahoma) combine their expertise in philosophy, psychology, and self-development to provide you with questions which were designed to help you help yourself. The authors believe there is enormous potential in seeking the answers within, rather than always seeking them from sources outside of yourself. Here is a small sample of the Questions you will find inside Question #9: Are you afraid of being alone with yourself? Or do you enjoy it? Question #57 What is love? How do you show it? Question #112 What is the one thing you know for sure? Question #182 Are the small moments in life worth more than we give them credit for? Question #263: What amount of money would it take for you to consider forsaking your deeply held values? Question #295: Are you in the process of fulfilling your dreams, or is there an obstacle in your path? Question #359: Have you ever felt personally touched by a spirit or higher power? Theology Psychology And The Plural Self written by Léon Turner and has been published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Psychology categories.
Is the human self singular and unified or essentially plural? This book explores the seemingly disparate ways that Christian theology and the secular human sciences have approached this complex question. Through an original analysis of recent theological and secular accounts of self and personhood, this book examines the extent of the intertheoretical disparity and its broader implications for theology's dialogue with the human sciences in general, and psychology in particular. It explains why theologians ought to take questions about the plurality of self very seriously, and how they overlap with many of the central concerns of contemporary theological anthropology, including the notions of relationality, particularity and human sinfulness. Introducing a novel psychological framework to distinguish various understandings of self-disunity, the author argues that contemporary theology's blanket condemnation of self-multiplicity is misconceived, and identifies a possible means of reconciling theological and human scientific accounts.

This collection features 26 new essays on character from first-rate scholars in philosophy, psychology, economics, and law. The essays are elegantly written and combine forceful argumentation with original ideas on a wide range of questions, such as:"Is Aristotle's theory of character a moral theory?," "Are character traits in tension with personal autonomy", "How do traits differ from mental disorders?," "What is the role of gossip in character attribution?," and "Can businessmen be virtuous?" The chapters are organized thematically into 5 sections, each prefaced by its own special introduction. In the introductions, the editor brings out often unexpected connections among different lines of argument pursued by the authors and raises important questions for further discussion. The collection as a whole offers students of character a unique opportunity to engage with some of the best contemporary work on the topic.

Re Thinking The Sociality Of The Self written by Kurt C. M. Mertel and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-16 with Philosophy categories.
This book is the first in a two-volume project that provides a social-philosophical interpretation of Martin Heidegger’s Being and Time as an emancipatory enterprise by arguing that fundamental ontology is essentially animated by an intent shared with critical theory, viz. to make philosophy concrete for the sake of individual and collective freedom. Focused on Division One of Being and Time, this volume argues that the possibilities of individual emancipation and self-actualization are inextricably bound to their environmental and intersubjective preconditions. An adequate ontology of the self, therefore, is possible only as a social ontology. To fulfill the emancipatory aims of fundamental ontology, however, it is necessary to show that the fact that agents are always already appropriated by society does not preclude the possibility of authentic self-appropriation. Hence, this volume critically reconstructs the core commitments of the ‘appropriative approach’ to social ontology and distinguishes between the foundational and incidental aspects of fundamental ontology. The final part is devoted to addressing important criticisms of Being and Time that have impeded a fruitful dialogue between fundamental ontology and critical theory to clear the ground for a fresh re-appraisal of the former as an emancipatory project.

The Idea Of The Self written by Jerrold Seigel and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-02-17 with History categories.
What is the self? The question has preoccupied people in many times and places, but nowhere more than in the modern West, where it has spawned debates that still resound today. In this 2005 book, Jerrold Seigel provides an original and penetrating narrative of how major Western European thinkers and writers have confronted the self since the time of Descartes, Leibniz, and Locke. From an approach that is at once theoretical and contextual, he examines the way figures in Britain, France, and Germany have understood whether and how far individuals can achieve coherence and consistency in the face of the inner tensions and external pressures that threaten to divide or overwhelm them. He makes clear that recent 'postmodernist' accounts of the self belong firmly to the tradition of Western thinking they have sought to supersede, and provides an open-ended and persuasive alternative to claims that the modern self is typically egocentric or disengaged.

This study explores the relationship between the individual person (the self), the divine, and other people in the writings of the apostle Paul and the Roman Stoic Epictetus. It does so by examining self-involving actions expressed with reflexive pronouns (myself, yourself, etc.) in various kinds of sentences: for example, “Examine yourself” and “You do not belong to yourself.” After situating the topic within the fields of linguistics and ancient Greek, the study then examines the reflexive constructions in Epictetus’s Discourses, showing that reflexive texts express fundamental aspects of his ethic of rational self-interest in imitation of the indwelling rational deity. Next, the investigation examines the 109 reflexive constructions in Paul, providing an exegesis of each reflexive text and then synthesizing the results. Paul’s reflexive phrases are essential statements of his theology and ethics, expressing an interconnected narrative Christology, narrative apostolic identity, and narrative ethic. Most importantly, the study finds that for Epictetus, concern for others is a rational means to self-realization, whereas for Paul, concern for others is a community ethic grounded in the story of the indwelling Christ and is the antithesis of self-interest.
