For several generations, the U.S. Navy Diving Manual has been considered the Bible of both military and commercial diving, regardless of where in the world these operations were performed. In the past, the U.S. Navy Diver's Handbook was the go-to source for military and commercial divers when they were in the field and did not wish to carry the complete manual with them. The last official printing of the handbook was in 1994, and after that time there was a desperate requirement for a handbook for the commercial diver. Originally published in 2013, The Commercial Diver's Handbook filled that requirement and more. It presented the three most commonly used air decompression tables world-wide, along with mixed gas tables, treatment tables, up-to-date diving medicine, a section on chamber operations, and a section on nitrox operations. Technical editing was performed by CP01 Charles Trombley, Canadian Navy. He was formerly with Canada's Experimental Diving Unit and later retired as Chief Diver, Fleet Diving Unit, Atlantic. This second edition of The Commercial Diver's Handbook has a few changes worth noting. First and foremost is the update of the U.S. Navy Diving Tables from Rev. 6 to 7. Secondly, the size of the book has increased slightly and there is larger print. The decompression tables are now in color for ease of use. As for the chamber medical kits, the handbook now specifies DMAC 15, Revision 4, and the appropriate lists are provided. In addition, the reader will notice other small changes made to keep information current in almost every section, from diving medicine through to emergency medical care. As with the previous edition, this handbook will again prove to be a valuable tool in every commercial diver and supervisor's possession, no matter where in the world they are working.

Commercial diving is a form of professional diving. Regardless of the specific sector within commercial diving, it demands a skill set far removed from recreational diving. This discipline encompasses the inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction of underwater facilities, including sewage treatment structures and subaquatic hydro installations such as bridges, oil rigs, nuclear power stations, ships, wind turbines, and other artificial constructions. Additionally, natural features like coral reefs fall within the purview of commercial divers. This book covers the entire mandatory theoretical and practical training program for diving specialists. This manual includes diverse topics such as diving physics, offering insights into contemporary decompression tables and guidance on independent calculations of gas breathing mixtures and procedures, anatomy, diving-related illnesses, treatment of diving-related injuries, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The processes of searching and raising sunken objects are described, operation planning, dive logs, records, and commercial diving standards, blueprints, and report writing, mixed-gas diving, as well as industrial and marine safety. Readers will familiarize themselves with essential practical exercises that every diver should master during underwater descents. This book imparts basic knowledge of the principles and structure of diving gear, such as scuba tanks and rebreathers, as well as equipment for underwater welding and cutting, rigging and locksmith tools, specialized suction pumps, and pumps for ground excavation. Information is also provided on the procedures for various underwater works and the operation of specific diving equipment, including high-pressure compressors, hyperbaric chambers, and rescue gear. Basic knowledge of hydrology and subaquatic structures such as dry docks, mooring structures, and dams will be conveyed. Furthermore, the textbook includes a course on physiological aspects affecting a diver's body during immersion and the actions of rescue divers during the provision of first aid. Despite the variations, a common thread in the training system for commercial divers is the certification of commercial divers. To be eligible to work in many countries, divers are required to possess specific certificates and training. In the United States, two primary certificates are essential for work: the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) and the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA). Commercial divers generally need certification in the country where they work. For example, divers working in Canada will require certification from the Diver Certification Board of Canada (DCBC); those in Australia fall under the jurisdiction of the Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS); and in the United Kingdom, certification from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is mandatory. The majority of the current demand for commercial diving in the United States is associated with the repair of oil rigs after hurricanes. Another area of increased demand is the sharp rise in inspections and repairs of bridges, dams, and other structures due to flooding. For those willing to pursue a career in commercial diving, the rewards are generous. The initial annual salary for a commercial diver ranges from $40,000 to $60,000, including comprehensive benefits. As a diver gains experience and proves themselves, the salary can grow to $100,000 or $150,000 per year. The book is valuable for both professional divers and apprentice trainees, as it contains materials that provide an understanding of the peculiarities of the diving profession. Gaining information from this textbook on commercial diving today will yield positive results in any international diving school tomorrow.

It's nice to be able to tell people that you're a commercial diver. It's an exciting profession, one that's both physically and mentally demanding, somehow capable of simultaneously being "hands-on" and also intensely cerebral. The substantial amount of money you can make is great too, especially considering how quickly you can be trained. Another nice thing about being a commercial diver is that the profession is expansive and growing. There are commercial divers employed as marine photojournalists, others work for the police department, scouring river bottoms for missing persons. There are specialized divers trained to handle sensitive jobs around hazardous or even nuclear sites. Perhaps the largest employer of commercial divers is the offshore oil rig industry, which employs commercial divers as underwater welders and repairmen who live on the rig for days at a time. This book is designed to provide a comprehensive, detailed, step-by-step guide for individuals interested in pursuing the commercial diving profession. If you want to learn all about what the commercial diving has to offer you, and how you can become a commercial diver, then read on.

Diving is an exciting sport as well as a requirement of some vocations such as commercial diving, military diving, public safety diving, and scientific diving. In sport diving, most learn to dive with a half mask to cover their eyes and nose. A second stage regulator supplies their breathing gas (air). This method of diving is safe, simple, and time-tested over the last half century. The diving scenarios that appear throughout this guide are actual situations that occurred to divers. The author spoke with these divers and recorded their experiences for the educational benefit of the reader. The scenarios are described as the author interpreted each of the experiences. All the divers and the people that might be associated with their dive experience should not be faulted for any bad situations they came to be in. Every person has had some type of mishap in life, and the purpose for sharing these scenarios is to teach and help avoid future incidents that might cost someone their life.

If you do not yet scuba dive but are thinking of learning, then Scuba Fundamental - Start Diving the Right Way is for you. It takes you from the germ of the idea that you might like to try scuba diving up to the point where you have done around 20 dives. This is not your standard how-to scuba diving manual. It is very different. The purpose of Scuba Fundamental is not to teach you how to dive. A dive instructor will do that. But this book will make the learning process much easier. It will help you make the right choices and avoid the pitfalls that await new and uninformed divers coming into the sport. It will also set you well on the road to becoming a capable and competent lifelong diver. Scuba Fundamental tells you how to make sure you are prepared for a scuba diving course and what a good beginners course should entail. It tells you how to choose a good instructor, how to decide which operators to dive with after you have finished your course and what sort of dives you should be doing when you first start diving. You will learn the many ways in which diving will change your life and also acquire some extremely valuable advice on the etiquette involved in the sport. Throughout the book and especially in the chapter "It Happened to Me" you will be entertained, educated and encouraged by anecdotes from people who are now experienced divers but were once beginners too. There is also an entire section devoted to diving safety, much of which covers vitally important aspects of scuba diving that standard training manuals don't emphasise enough or even leave out completely. The book's message is: start scuba diving the right way and you will be relaxed and ready for the adventure. You will have more fun, make fewer mistakes and be confident in the fact that you are well informed, have made the best choices and have spent your money wisely. Scuba Fundamental is a unique, reliable and essential guide: one that you can trust completely and follow during this formative phase of your scuba diving life. "I wish I had had this book to read when I learned to dive. I remember being totally confused." Robin Yao, Executive Editor, EZDIVE magazine "This is the book divers should give to friends when they say they want to learn to scuba dive." Ian Thomas, Scuba Instructor Trainer
