The Slasher Killings is an excellent account of community and police responses to unusual crimes and shows us how crime can sometimes provoke a deeply disproportionate reaction. A fascinating case study-it is also a very good read.

"Ripper Notes: Jack the Slasher" is a collection of essays about the famous unidentified Victorian serial killer Jack the Ripper and related topics. Wolf Vanderlinden starts things off with an overview of suspect Hyam Hyams, an insane East End Jew sometimes named as being the Whitechapel murderer. This includes a never-before seen photograph of Hyams in an asylum. Wolf then provides an in depth look at Henry G. Dowd, the New York maniac known as Jack the Slasher. When he was caught the newspapers tried to link him to the more famous killings in London. Next Bernard Brown, editor of the Metropolitan Police History magazine, theorizes about what a New York Ripper would find most familiar in Whitechapel. This is followed by Tom Wescott with a thorough examination of the neighborhood where victim Elizabeth Stride was killed, including a large number of period photographs and illustrations. He then uses information about other murder scenes to try to determine the exact methods the Ripper used to subdue and kill Stride. Next "ESM" provides the facts and never before crime scene illustrations and photos of the little known case of the Vienna Ripper, another killer and mutilator of prostitutes in the late 19th century, one whose methods and personal characteristics could be directly comparable to the London murders. This is followed by Wolf again, this time detailing the known facts of a Lascar sailor named in some news reports as having been the Ripper. Profusely illustrated with rare and never before seen illustrations, Ripper Notes is a nonfiction anthology series covering all aspects of the Jack the Ripper case.

From rampage killers to hunters that seek out human prey in the shadows of the night, this serial killer anthology is a collection of horror stories. Collectively these men were responsible for hundreds of deaths, and they all belong in the realm of the worst serial killers to date. Delve into eight different cases and explore the heinous deeds committed, the background of each killer, and the apparent motives for their crimes. There are those who went on deadly rampages, such as Cho Seung-Hui and George Hennard; men who decided to inflict as much terror in one day as they possibly could. Famous serial killers are included, such as the Hillside Stranglers, Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, and the Beast of the Ukraine, Anatoly Onoprienko. There are also lesser known murderers such as Fritz Haarmann and Ronald Dominique, who preyed on young men for their own deviant pleasures. Each of these true murder stories will leave you with a sense of horror and perhaps a little fear. David Parker Ray's surviving victims still live in fear today, and this notorious true crime story is one of the most sadistic and disturbing. With tales of torture, mind control and violence, very few survived their time in Ray's toy box.The true crime stories in this book have been selected because of the horrendous nature of their actions and the sheer volume of victims they slaughtered. Innocent people, going about their daily business or asleep in their beds, all make up these serial killers true crime stories.

September, 1973 - a killer terrorizes the affluent community of Lakeview; slashing the throat and stomach of six seemingly random victims. The murder weapon is found at each scene - a Hansi Brand Chef Knife. The killer is dubbed The Lakeview Slasher by the press and is never apprehended despite the best efforts of law enforcement. September, 1993 - on the unheralded twentieth anniversary of The Lakeview Slasher's initial slaying, a young woman is murdered near a park in Lakeview; her throat and stomach slashed with the Hansi Brand Chef Knife left at the scene. After two decades of inactivity, has the Lakeview Slasher returned? On the case are Bill Strode and Sandra Cates, the city's more lauded detectives. However, personal demons, a dark revelation, and vengeful gangsters, force the longtime partners and best friends to work the case in unconventional fashion. They receive reluctant assistance from Thomas Riley, an idealistic rookie detective who is as awed by their investigative skills as he is repulsed by their often unethical tactics. A beloved youth pastor's guilt over past sins, a dangerous thug with a grudge, and a privileged young man's deadly obsession, also factor into this unpredictable crime thriller where the concepts of right and wrong, good and evil, reward and punishment, are not mutually exclusive.

What would you do if someone acted out —for real— the kill scenes from your student-made horror film? That’s the dilemma facing high school seniors Cassie and Donovan. Best friends, aspiring filmmakers, and hopeful romantic partners, they set out to complete a feature-length horror film as a graduation project for their performing arts high school. Using actors and crew from among their classmates, they aim to finish the bulk of shooting over Spring Break. When several murders occur not far from their locations—each one recreating a specific “kill” scene from their script—they suddenly find themselves embroiled in a real-life horror movie neither of them bargained for. Cassie’s police officer dad and his ex-girlfriend—a homicide detective Cassie once hoped would be her stepmom—allow the film shoot to continue because the killer has threatened to murder Donovan’s mother if they stop. Traps are set and arrests are made, but the killer—who might be a member of the cast or crew—is one step ahead of their every move. Can Cassie and Donovan help the police unmask the psychopath before more people die?
