This novel of the future was originally created in response to a competition to submit novels of the future which emphasized problems of the environment and their solutions. It was emphasized in the competition that the novel be easily adapted to a movie format. Unfortunately, the criteria were abandoned by the judging committee, and this novel in an earlier version of over twenty years ago was relegated to a high storage shelf. In the interim, the problems of climate change, a center piece of The Snows of Summer, have been further aggravated by our continued dependence on fossil fuels, with a critical threat to the environment involving tar sands and fracking for natural gas and oil. With a prospect of fifty more years of cheap energy, the start toward an environmental friendly energy society seems to be coming to an end, making climate change more likely. The Snows of Summer has been updated to include events that have transpired since its original writing to act as a belated warning that our environment has become fragile enough and industry-powerful enough that a continued ignoring of humanity's effects on the environment may put the future of our species at risk.

Among The Summer Snows written by Christopher Nicholson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Nature categories.

Christopher Nicholson's first book of nature writing is a beautiful account of an unusual obsession. In 2016 he spent August searching for the remaining snows of the Scottish Highlands. His account of his solitary walk is by turns funny, fascinating and inspiring. A meditation on walking, mountains, snow and our changing climate, Nicholson also turns his curious eye on nature-lovers themselves. What are we looking for when we walk and what is it we want from nature? What is it we see and what is it we miss? What remains when we are gone and what have we lost from the landscape forever?

Massive climate change has caused a winter that will not thaw, and it seems that the forces of nature have turned on humanity itself. But in the sleepy British village of Pateley, one special girl may hold the key to the earth s survival. Wyn, an orphan, has always known that she is different. Unable to feel the biting cold of wind and snow of Pateley s endless winter, she does what she can to blend in. But when mysterious figures start to appear in the village, insisting that she may have the power to restore order to the natural world, Wyn must look deep inside herself to face the secrets of her past that she has kept hidden even from herself. From debut author Kit Peel, Snow Summer is an immersive fantasy novel that expertly conveys the beauty of the natural world and its conflict with human development. A powerful allegory for climate change and global warming, it is nevertheless a timeless story, reminiscent of classics of the genre. "

The Snows Of Yesteryear written by Gregor Von Rezzori and has been published by New York Review of Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-15 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Gregor von Rezzori was born in Czernowitz, a onetime provincial capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that was later to be absorbed successively into Romania, the USSR, and the Ukraine—a town that was everywhere and nowhere, with a population of astonishing diversity. Growing up after World War I and the collapse of the empire, Rezzori lived in a twilit world suspended between the formalities of the old nineteenth-century order which had shaped his aristocratic parents and the innovations, uncertainties, and raw terror of the new century. The haunted atmosphere of this dying world is beautifully rendered in the pages of The Snows of Yesteryear. The book is a series of portraits—amused, fond, sometimes appalling—of Rezzori’s family: his hysterical and histrionic mother, disappointed by marriage, destructively obsessed with her children’s health and breeding; his father, a flinty reactionary, whose only real love was hunting; his haughty older sister, fated to die before thirty; his earthy nursemaid, who introduced Rezzori to the power of storytelling and the inevitability of death; and a beloved governess, Bunchy. Telling their stories, Rezzori tells his own, holding his early life to the light like a crystal until it shines for us with a prismatic brilliance.
