Being the commanding officer is another thing as well. One is for a prophecy of a project. The other has a past untold of. But both do deal with the same prophecy. Being in love is a crazy thing, especially being a soldier and a commander. Keeping that love hidden and balanced is a hard thing, more so when both sides are against it. In October1968 Captain George Morgan is about to embark on what he considers to be the best job in the U.S. Armycommanding a rifle company in combat. At age 27, he will be referred to as The Old Man by the soldiers under his command. He is already a seasoned veteran of service in Vietnam and is now returning for a second tour of duty in what has become an increasingly unpopular war in the U.S. During this assignment, Morgan acquires a keen sense of responsibility to his unit, which calls itself Charlie Hunter, and to the men who serve in it. He develops a special bond with many of his men, and one in particulara young Mexican who is nicknamed Mouse. The story takes this unit on many dangerous missions and recounts the bravery and compassion of the soldier called Mouse. In the course of operations, the unit comes into contact with a mysterious Vietnamese woman, who eventually brings the commander to Saigon. That visit draws the captain into the realm of espionage and subterfuge and culminates with him on stand-by to lead a mission to rescue the Vietnamese woman. While leading his men on combat missions, Captain Morgan becomes increasingly disillusioned with the war and finds it more and more difficult to justify Americas presence in Vietnam to his subordinates; yet, he must continue to set the example and project the image of the stalwart commander.

Ike The Soldier written by Merle Miller and has been published by Rosetta Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-24 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

From the bestselling author of Plain Speaking and Lyndon comes this “vivid and consistently absorbing record of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s military career” (Kirkus Reviews). Bringing together thousands of hours of interviews with the men and women who were closest to him, Merle Miller has constructed a revealing and personal biography of the man who would become the supreme commander. From his childhood in Kansas to West Point, World War I, and Europe where he led the Allied Forces to a hard-won victory in World War II, Ike the Soldier goes behind the historic battles and into the heart and mind of Ike Eisenhower. Miller has crafted the defining biography on the life of the thirty-fourth president, bringing more depth to the man many thought they knew. His strained relationships with his father, brothers, and son are brought into focus; as well as his love affair with his wife Mamie, and his relationship with Kay Summersby—his driver turned companion and confidante during WWII. “An informed and balanced tribute to a world-class leader whose remarkable character gains greater luster with the passage of time.” —Kirkus Reviews “This is a highly enjoyable look at Ike’s personal and official relationships with the people most important to him during the first 55 years of his life, including family, Army and Allied colleagues and heads of state.” —Publishers Weekly

Montgomery written by Trevor Royle and has been published by St. Martin's Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-23 with History categories.

Bernard Law Montgomery was a dedicated battlefield tactician, though a controversial one. In North Africa in 1942, he commanded the Eighth Army to a great triumph against Rommel at El Alamein, which Churchill hailed as the beginning of the end of the war. During the planning stages for the invasion of Sicily, Montgomery proved himself to be a splendid organizer and a great believer in simplicity. But he was also known as a complicated man whose legacy remains tainted by his insensitive and boastful nature and desire for personal glory—all of which can have dangerous consequences on the battlefield. In the end, though, it was only due to Montgomery's influence that the weight of the Allied attack at Normandy was increased, and the Allied success of D-Day owes much to his far-sightedness. In the field, especially during the planning stages, he was at his best. An inspirational commander whose self-confidence was legendary, Montgomery's military life has proved to be a great lesson for leaders in the years since.

El Alamein, Kasserine Pass, Poland, Belgium, Normandy on D-Day, the disastrous Russian front--von Luck fought there with some of the best soldiers in the world. German soldiers. Awarded the German Cross in Gold and the Knight's Cross, von Luck writes as an officer and a gentleman. Told with the vivid detail of an impassioned eyewitness, his rare and moving memoir has become a classic in the literature of World War II, a first-person chronicle of the glory--and the inevitable tragedy--of a superb soldier fighting Hitler's war.

The Wrath Of Achilles Essays On Command In Battle written by Richard Hooker and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-18 with categories.

Battle command, particularly of higher formations, is extraordinarily complex, like brain surgery under fire. In all of history, only a relative few have mastered it. Others have been skilled practitioners, though they may have lacked the spark of genius - what Napoleon called "coup d'oeil" - that marks the great captains. Only the chosen few will succeed. But they will make history. This anthology was inspired by its authors and the Soldiers and Marines they lead. They have succeeded brilliantly in translating the reality of combat to a rising generation of combat leaders. Many were moved to delve deeply into military history as the wellspring of their profession, even as they fought America's wars and half-wars and rose to command themselves. Their experiences and reflections appear in this volume, a collection of battle studies that focus on leadership success, and failure, in the great campaigns of the last 150 years. From brigade- to army-group level, these lessons in battle command speak across the decades to the key questions of success in war. The authors are soldier-scholars of the first rank, some of whom are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan today and will rise to lead our military in tomorrow's battles and campaigns. Today, in Afghanistan and Iraq, America is re-learning a central lesson: in the end, wars are fought and won on the ground, in the mud, not by superior machines but by tough Soldiers and Marines enabled by superior battle command. That is not likely to change. America's military must always have a ready answer to the question "can you fight?" If this volume spurs any young commander to pick up his Homer and read about war, the labors of its authors will be amply rewarded.
