Explore the beauty, tradition, and stylish renovation of rustic mountain homes across the Southern Appalachians in this gorgeously photographed book. The cool, wooded mountains of the South are dotted with log cabins, each with its own rich history and aesthetic charm. In The Southern Rustic Cabin, photographer Emily Followill captures the rugged beauty and unique personality of thirteen mountain homes located across Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, and Virginia. The homeowners have lovingly preserved the age-old qualities of their cabins while renovating, revitalizing, and redecorating them to support modern living and reflect their personal style. Alongside her stunning photography of interiors and exteriors, Followill tells the story of how each cabin and owner came together; as the owners changed their cabins, the cabins invariably changed the owners as well.

In the cool, wooded mountains of the American South, each log cabin has a rich history and a unique personality. Thirteen homeowners across the South took on the challenge of preserving the age-old qualities of their cabins while renovating, revitalizing, and redecorating these treasures to support modern living and reflect their personal styles. Emily Followill's stunning photography shows every cozy corner of the homes, located in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama and Virginia. The writing tells the story of how each cabin and owner came together; as the owners changed their cabins, the cabins invariably changed the owners as well. Emily J. After searching for years for a mountain cabin site in the west, the author purchased 13 acres out of an old horse and cattle ranch dating back to 1881, just outside of what is now Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Gradually he became interested in the history of his land and uncovered a rich trove of Mescalero Apache, Spanish, Mexican and American cultures coming together, warring and ultimately co-existing in this little corner of the country. These disjointed notes are the results of his research and insight. Coronado, Kit Carson, Santana, Billy the Kid, the Bullards and Mosers, The Eddy Brothers, J. Robert Oppenheimer and, in turn, the Weinbergers all appear on or within a few miles of this special place. This is their story.
