Marriage and the family are God-given institutions, more established by hundreds of years than the church. It was God who founded marriage in the Garden of Eden when he said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make Him an help meet for him (Gen. 2:18). It was God who setteth the solitary in families (Psalm 68:6). The God of creation saw that the supporting power of humanity is in the family. Furthermore, in his intelligence, he put the way to the quality of the family in the relationship of marriage. Marriage is, in the Christian ideal, one man and one woman holding hands with each other and with God, forever. No other human relationship is so requesting or so fulfilling. There is a test in marriage to be discovered no place else. This relationship requests the best that a man and a woman can provide for it. All that each has of affection, comprehension, persistence, forgiveness, and a score of different graces are required. This is a great resource for the clergy and laypersons alike. All issues in this publication are from the Christian perspective with a biblical foundation. This publication not only covers issues pertaining to the Christian marriage (primarily a divine institution), but it also pertains to issues of marital counseling, family, the childrens reverence and obedience to parents, the parents mutual love and affection for each other and their children, worship in the home, and last but not the least, the chief design of the state or civil government. Jesus said, Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness (Matt. 6:33). When husband and wife obey this command and teach their children to obey it, families have a future that is eternal and that fadeth not away.

Before we examine the nature, the meaning, and the beauty of Christian marriage (which St. Paul calls "a great mystery in Christ and the Holy Church"), we shall examine the essence and meaning of marriage in the realm of nature, and its specific character in reference to all other fellowships and communities. Only in this way can we understand what was so gloriously exalted by Jesus Christ and thus dispel the misinterpretations of the nature of marriage so frequently encountered. Why does Holy Scripture choose this particular relationship as an image? It is chosen because marriage is the closest and most intimate of all earthly unions in which, more than in any other, one person gives himself to another without reserve, where the other in his complete personality is the object of love, and where mutual love is in a specific way the theme (that is to say, the core) of the relationship.

Profound reflections on the cross that help you to meditate on and marvel at the sacrificial love of Jesus. This book can be used as a devotional, especially during Lent and Easter. These profound reflections on the cross from David Mathis, author of The Christmas We Didn’t Expect, will help you to meditate on and marvel at Jesus’ life, sacrificial death, and spectacular resurrection-enabling you to treasure anew who Jesus is and what he has done. Many of us are so familiar with the Easter story that it becomes easy to miss subtle details and difficult to really enjoy its meaning. This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.

On Christmas Eve, 1886, a young girl, Thrse Martin, received special grace. Although it was the littleness of the Christ Child that reached out to this girl and taught her to give up the defects of childhood, the grace was by no means small. Her long bout with scruples and empty fears was not completely over, yet in her own words, "since that night I have never been defeated in any combat, but rather walked from victory to victory." Such was her experience of God's mercy that she decided then and there to give her life to the mission of converting sinners. This book by Cliff Ermatinger presents us with deep theological insights into the meaning of the seemingly simple life and journey of St. Thrse of Lisieux. This little book treats of a love story that began on January 4, 1873, the day of Therese's baptism. On that day God began to court the soul of this little girl who would remain just that a little girl. She would also learn to correspond with her baptismal grace, thus maturing into a strong-willed woman and ultimately into the faithful bride of her divine Spouse. Her formal relationship with Christ and her new insertion into his life began fittingly on Christmas. Also fittingly, her relationship with him on earth ended on Calvary. Tracing St. Thrse of Lisieux's life, we discover that she begins with the life of grace, going from child of God to child in the Son. She then advances to a theological existence; from theological existence to union; and from union to its culmination in espousals with Christ: the ordinary terminus of the spiritual life to which everyone is called. Having arrived at such union with the divine Spouse, Thrse was next inducted into the victimhood of Christ. The author then examines the relation between the type of victimhood St. Thrse experienced and the type of sin she was expiating: atheism.

Petrus van Mastricht’s Theoretical-Practical Theology presents one of the most comprehensive methods of treating Christian doctrine. In it, Mastricht treats every theological topic according to a four-part approach: exegetical, dogmatic, elenctic, and practical. As a body of divinity, it combines a rigorous, scholastic treatment of doctrine with the pastoral aim of preparing people to live for God through Christ. Students and pastors will find it a valuable model for moving from the text of Scripture to doctrinal formulation that will edify the people of God. Volume 3, The Works of God and the Fall of Man, is a book of origins—origins of the created order and of sin. Mastricht begins with a discussion of the decrees of God and how they establish His eternal purpose for everything. He then shows how the decrees are carried out in creation and in God’s continual providence. The volume concludes with Mastricht’s treatment of the apostacy of Adam from his original estate and the devastating effects of sin that followed. This is an important volume for learning how God governs all things, even the rebellious actions of those good things He created. Table of Contents: Part 1 Continued: Prolegomena and Faith Book 3: The Works of God The Actions and Decrees of God Predestination Election Reprobation Creation in General The World and the Work of the Six Days The Good Angels The Evil Angels Man and the Image of God The General Providence of God Special Providence The Covenant of Nature Book 4: Man’s Apostasy from God The Violation of the Covenant of Nature Original Sin Actual Sin The Penalty and State of Sin
