This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1873 edition. Excerpt: ... If they mean to work even at this late hour, there is still room and welcome for them, but let them do so without more delay. "Why stand ye here all the day idle?" Spiritualism has for a quarter of a century got on pretty well, with little help from them, and it will continue to progress in the future as it has in the past, whether they help or hinder. The doughty champions who in the name of science have felt so confident of an easy victory over Spiritualism, have found themselves unhorsed in the encounter. -Spiritualism holds, and means to keep possession of the field. SPIRIT-FACES. Perhaps at no time since the advent of modern Spiritualism have the physical manifestations of spirits been so abundant and marvellous as now. To present anything like a complete record of them would be impossible. All that we as journalists can do is to give reports of those which have some feature of special interest, or which have been drawn up with more than usual care, or are more than usually well attested, and particularly when these manifestations are representative of a class of kindred nature. The appearance of spirit forms and faces is now common at public stances in the metropolis, and especially at those of Herne and Williams, Mrs. Holmes, and Miss Florence Cook. The latter young lady, of whom we recently presented a short autobiographical sketch, is an unprofessional medium, and as we have not been privileged to attend her stances, we are unable to report of them from personal observation; but we lately quoted an account of one of them from the Daily Telegraph, written by its "own commissioner," and we present, from the Spiritualist of December 15th, the following account of-- A SEANCE WITH MISS FLORENCE COOK. "On Wednesday evening, December...

Adin Ballou S Spiritual Journey Through Nineteenth Century New England written by Bryce Hal Taylor and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-13 with History categories.

New England Christianity in the nineteenth century produced an almost unending stream of new and old denominations that speckled the landscape. Baptists, Congregationalists, Methodists, Universalists, Spiritualists, Unitarians, Restorationists, and Calvinists—to name a few—beckoned each individual to join their growing movements. Each professed its truths and some proclaimed theirs was the only path leading to salvation. Admist this Christian angst, Adin Ballou began his spiritual quest to obtain truth. Through Ballou's lengthy spiritual quest, from 1820 to 1880, this book examines how denominational histories, however important, do not explain what a nineteenth-century New England Christian became. Ballou exemplifies this paradox. Always fixed, but never settled. Once a believer chose a path, new phenomena and teachings immediately appeared leaving one's truth claims transient. Through the Christian maze of nineteenth-century New England, Ballou's Christian faith was simply his own.

*Psychic Exploration, A Challenge for Science* is a primer on psychic research, life’s purpose, and the meaning of the universe. Originally published in 1974, this landmark anthology of nearly thirty chapters on every area of psychic research is finally available again. Edgar D. Mitchell, Apollo 14 astronaut and moonwalker, as well as a distinguished researcher of the study of human consciousness, brought together eminent scientists to write about issues once considered too controversial to discuss. This book includes fascinating chapters on the history of parapsychology, telepathy, hauntings, psychic phenomena, and consciousness, along with an extensive glossary and index. This timeless anthology continues to be appealing as a reference work for those curious about the history of parapsychology, fans of the world of psi, and readers interested in the meaning of the universe. Contributors include: Willis W. Harman, Jean Houston, Stanley Krippner, Robert Masters, William G. Roll, Russell Targ, Charles T. Tart, Montague Ullman, and many more. “ […] perhaps the most important change [since the initial publication of *Psychic Exploration*] has been due to advancements in quantum physics […] If this trend continues, then the age-old puzzle at the core of religious epiphanies, mystical insight, and creative genius will finally yield to scientific explanations: What is the true nature of consciousness?” —From the New Foreword by Marilyn Schlitz, PhD, and Dean Radin, PhD

Excerpt from Spiritualism: The Open Door to the Unseen Universe: Being Thirty Years of Personal Observation and Experience Concerning Intercourse Between the Material and Spiritual Worlds N 0 other movement which has originated during the past sixty years has exerted so powerful an influence upon contemporary thought as modern Spiritualism has done. No man within the ranks of British Spiritualists can better tell the story of its growth in these islands during the past thirty years than the writer of the following pages; few could tell it as well. Having been intimately associated with him during the period covered by his pen, there is no question in my mind as to the accuracy of his statements, while their illuminating lucidity leaves nothing to be desired. Personal experience in the matters detailed in the ensuing chapters is necessary for correct judgment. My friend possesses such experience, and speaks, con sequently, as one having authority. Himself a business man of repute in his great city, Glasgow, his words are weighty and full worthy of respect.
