Deflecting the attention from Hollywood, Stars in World Cinema fills an important gap in the study of film by bringing together Star Studies and World Cinema. A team of international scholars here bring their expertise and in-depth knowledge of world cultures and cinema to the study of stars and stardom from six continents, exploring their cultures, their local history and their global relevance. Chapters look at the role of acting, music, singing, painting and martial arts in the making of stars from Australia's indigenous population, Austria, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Japan, North and South Korea, Nigeria, the Philippines, the former Soviet Union, Spain, North and South America. Since the very beginnings of cinema, actors and stars have been central to its history and have been one of the medium's defining characteristics. They have also been fundamental to the marketing of cinema and have played a major part in the reception of films in many cultures. Stars in World Cinema examines stardom and the circulation of stars across borders, analysing how local star systems or non-systems construct stardom around the world. Contributors put into practice their local knowledge of history, language and cultural systems, to consider issues of hybridity, boundary crossing, the mobility of stardom, and embodied spectatorship, in order to further the understanding of stars in light the of recent interest in reception theory. Rooted in a multidisciplinary and polycentric approach, this book throws light on unexpected connections between stars and stardoms from different parts of the world, cutting across chronology, geographies and film history.

The Origins Of The Film Star System written by Andrew Shail and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-30 with History categories.

Drawing on a wide range of archival sources, Andrew Shail traces the emergence of film stardom in Europe and North America in the early 20th century. Modifying and supplementing Richard deCordova's account of the birth of the US star system, Shail describes the complex set of economic circumstances that led film studios and actors to consent to the adoption of a star system. He then explores the film industry's turn, from 1908, to making character-based series films. He details how these characters both prefigured and precipitated the star system, demonstrating that series characters and the 'firmament' of film stars are functionally equivalent, and shows how openly fictional characters still provide the model for 'real' film stars.

The Many Faces Of Weimar Cinema written by Christian Rogowski and has been published by Camden House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Performing Arts categories.

Traditionally, Weimar cinema has been equated with the work of a handful of auteurist filmmakers and a limited number of canonical films. Often a single, limited phenomenon, "expressionist film," has been taken as synonymous with the cinema of the entire period. But in recent decades, such reductive assessments have been challenged by developments in film theory and archival research that highlight the tremendous richness and diversity of Weimar cinema. This widening of focus has brought attention to issues such as film as commodity; questions of technology and genre; transnational collaborations and national identity; effects of changes in socioeconomics and gender roles on film spectatorship; and connections between film and other arts and media. Such shifts have been accompanied by archival research that has made a cornucopia of new information available and augmented by the increased availability of films from the period on DVD. This wealth of new source material calls for a re-evaluation of Weimar cinema that considers the legacies of lesser-known directors and producers, popular genres, experiments of the artistic avant-garde, and nonfiction films, all of which are aspects attended to by the essays in this volume. Contributors: Ofer Ashkenazi, Jaimey Fisher, Veronika Fuechtner, Joseph Garncarz, Barbara Hales, Anjeana Hans, Richard W. McCormick, Nancy P. Nenno, Elizabeth Otto, Mihaela Petrescu, Theodore F. Rippey, Christian Rogowski, Jill Smith, Philipp Stiasny, Chris Wahl, Cynthia Walk, Valerie Weinstein, Joel Westerdale. Christian Rogowski is Professor and Chair of German at Amherst College.

STAR CORE ZEUS is a message for everybody on this planet. A dark massive object called 'star-core-zeus' has been discovered approaching our solar-system. It is responsible for the cycle of catastrophic climate change. Star-core-zeus is the remains of the former companion star of the Sun, which blew up in a supernova four point six billion years ago. The debris from this explosion not only provided the materials to build the planets; it was the origin of crude oil and complex organic molecules, which triggered Life on Earth. Two hundred and fifty million years ago, star-core-zeus flew so close to Earth that it ripped-off fifty percent of the old crust, simultaneously gouging out the ocean basins. Pangaea was not a super-continent; it was the fractured remains of the old surface of the whole Earth. The crust fragments launched into space by star-core-zeus became our Moon. Star-core-zeus travels in a very eccentric and steeply-inclined orbit, like an enormous comet. Every four thousand years, it passes the Sun then flies-by Earth, violently disturbing our planet. The whole solar-system is experiencing climate-change. The global-warming on Earth, Mars, Neptune and Triton is heralding the arrival of star-core-zeus. The location, flight-path and estimated time of arrival of star-core-zeus are described in this book. The front cover of the book is an image of star-core-zeus with its grid reference.
