It was just a kiss - but like nothing she'd ever experienced before! Or was it the magic of the romantic French Riviera? Whatever it was, it ignited a love story that spanned three continents. However, this is no ordinary love story. While there is a beautiful princess and a prince charming - oh yes, ever so charming in more ways than one -- it is no fantasy. It has the joys of love, with the painful reality of life. You will be entranced by this Australian woman's compelling journey of discovery; her intriguing love, life, adventures and experiences, along with the highs and lows she encounters, and the masks she wears to maintain dignity. Join her and the love of her life, 'her' Frenchman. No ordinary Frenchman, but a renowned artist, a true romantic, dreamer, schemer - and a married man. He was divorcing his wife of forty years, but not for the little Australian, or so she thought! Australian born Nannette Holliday, a former Government Communication Manager, has travelled extensively for work and pleasure. Her journeys and experiences of love and life, the joys and realities, are interwoven into The Sting of Fate, taking you on a spellbinding but painfully truthful ride. As the owner and Managing Director of an advertising agency for 20 years, Holliday is a highly successful businesswoman and an accomplished radio and television presenter. Now retired, she relishes the enjoyment and experiences of travelling around the world, discovering new people and places. The upcoming sequel, Fate's Revenge, continues the journey. 'Why are we losing the war against obesity and chronic disease?' This is the simple question Peter Gluckman and Mark Hanson ask, exploring the dominant myth that the exploding epidemic of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes can be tackled by focusing on adult life styles. Addressing the flawed approach of the weight-loss industry, they explain why a continued focus simply on diet and exercise will fail. Highlighting the implications of the growing burden of these problems in the developing world, they show that the scientific enterprise ignores the reality of the social, cultural, and biological determinants that make different populations and people respond differently to living in the modern nutritionally rich world. Gluckman and Hanson review the overwhelming scientific evidence that much of the problem emerges in early life and even before birth, identifying that to address these issues requires considering development in two dimensions - a life course approach and addressing the developmental challenges of countries emerging through the socioeconomic transition. Asking why the major global bodies and vested interests fail to consider these dimensions and continue with failed approaches, they conclude by discussing the complex interactions between health and the food industry, and suggest that the food industry must be co-opted as an ally in this battle, providing a clear pathway forward.

On the back cover of one of his most groundbreaking solo albums, . . . Nothing like the Sun of 1987, Sting (Gordon Matthew Sumner, b. 1951 in Wallsend, UK) somberly stands close to a statue of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The album was released a few months after his own mother, Audrey, died. The picture was taken on the island of Montserrat, where he was recording the album, apparently on the day of her death. “I said goodbye to my mother, as I had a recording date in Montserrat, and she died a week later.” When asked by the author if his mother was particularly connected to Mary, and if this was why he chose this image, he replied “No, but I did.” This evocative photograph and Sting’s quick answer encapsulate the two pillars of this book: a microhistory of a specific British Catholic parish in the 1950s–60s, and the impact that growing up there had on Sting’s artistic output. And beyond that, this book opens a window onto the influence of Catholic education and imagination on millions of less famous people who had similar upbringings.
