The following "story" is the outcome of a teachers attempt to present historical lessons of interest to the children and at the same time be consistent with her all-time pleading that in history reading, above all reading, the child should train himself to look for sequence, cause and effect; for initiative acts and results. It ought not to detract from the child's respect for the Constitution to know that it was fought for and fought over; that there was no perfect agreement between parties then any more than now, and that compromises had to be made then as now. This story method has been used with much success in the school-room, and the author feds that it will generally appeal to the average child of our grammar school grade.
