Since the 1990's, Stakeholder-Shareholder Value and Corporate Governance can be counted as being amongst the core economic phrases of global capitalism. However, their meaning from a fi nancial-sociological perspective remains largely unexplored. To a backdrop of structural transformation in global capitalism, Pal Dragos investigates the cooperation of these terms, not only from an economical, but also from a social perspective. He warns of the dangers of a one-sided rationalistic view of the world economy. The methodical basis of this investigation is based on Anthony Giddens' Structuration theory, not only used by the author, but placed under scrutiny with regard to its terms. Amongst others, the works of authors as varied as T. W. Adorno, H. Arendt and the 'fi nancial genius' G. Soros are considered. In the context of this subject matter, central issues such as terrorism, anti-Semitism, anti-Americanism or the threatening avian flu pandemic are put into an entirely different light. Pal Dragos (Dr./Med. Univ. Budapest, M.A., Dipl. Soz., Dr. phil., MBA (Wales)) works in Munich in the Wachstumstrend Research Institute and Publishers Ltd within the framework of the international and interdisciplinary structuration research.E-Mail: [email protected]

The global financial crisis has challenged many of our most authoritative economic ideologies and policies. After thirty years of reshaping the world to conform to the market, governments and societies are now calling for a retreat to a yet undefined new economic order. In order to provide a guide to what the twenty-first-century economy might look like, this book revisits the great project of Global Capitalism. What did it actually entail? How far did it go? What were its strengths and failings? By deconstructing its core ideas and examining its empirical record, can we gain clues about how to move forward after the crisis? Miguel Centeno and Joseph Cohen define capitalism as a historically-evolving and socially-constructed institution, rooted in three core economic activities trade, finance and marketing and identify the three key challenges that any new economic system will need to surmount inequality, governance, and environmental sustainability. This accessible and engaging book will be essential reading for students of economic sociology, and all those interested in the construction of our economic future.

China And The Transformation Of Global Capitalism written by Ho-fung Hung and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-15 with Business & Economics categories.

This volume explains China's economic rise and liberalization and assesses how this growth is reshaping the structure and dynamics of global capitalism in the twenty-first century. China has historically been the center of Asian trade, economic, and financial networks, and its global influence continues to expand in the twenty-first century. In exploring the causes for and effects of China's re surging power, this volume takes a broad, long-term view that reaches well beyond economics for answers. Contributors explore the vast web of complex issues raised by China's ascendancy. The first three chapters discuss the global and historical origins of China's shift to a market economy and that transformation's impact on the international market system. Subsequent essays explore the ability of large Chinese manufacturers to counter the might of transnational retailers, the effect of China's rise on world income distribution and labor, and the consequences of a stronger China for its two most powerful neighbors, Russia and Japan. The concluding chapter questions whether China's growth is sustainable and if it will ultimately shift the center of global capitalism from the West to the East.

International Mobility Global Capitalism And Changing Structures Of Accumulation written by Anthony P. D'Costa and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-19 with Political Science categories.

International mobility is not a new concept as people have moved throughout history, voluntarily and forcibly, for personal, familial, economic, political, and professional reasons. Yet, the mobility of technical talent in the global economy is relatively new, largely voluntary, structurally determined by market forces, and influenced by immigration policies. With over a decade’s worth of extensive research in India, Japan, Finland, and Singapore, this book provides an alternative understanding of how capitalism functions at the global level by specifically analyzing the international movement of technical professionals between India and Japan. There are three factors that inform this study: the services transition away from manufacturing, the movement of technical professionals in the world economy, and the demographic crisis facing Japan. The dynamics of changing capitalism are examined by theorizing the emergence of the services sector in the USA and Japan, analyzing the pronounced social inequality in India that is the basis for the global supply of highly skilled technical professionals, and providing considerable empirical data on the flows of professionals to these two countries to indicate Japan’s institutional inflexibility in accommodating foreign talent. The author anticipates that Japanese industry will shed some of its institutional rigidity due to the pressures of competition and the scarcity of technical professionals. Providing a wealth of information on the topic of international mobility, this book is an essential addition for scholars and students in the field of International Development, Business Studies, Asian Studies, Migration Studies, and Political Economy.

Global Capitalism And The Crisis Of Democracy written by Jerry Harris and has been published by SCB Distributors this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-17 with Business & Economics categories.

This wide-ranging book makes a critical contribution to understanding the times in which we live and possible solutions to the increasingly acute crisis of global capitalism. Harris critiques with great perspicacity the ideology and destructive practices of hegemonic neo-liberalism as well as the failure of 20th century socialism to provide a viable alternative and the limitations of anarchism. All three ideologies are found wanting in the quest for human liberation. In this new globalized information age our emancipatory potential, he suggests, lies in freeing democracy from the constraints of capitalism through a more balanced relationship between the state, market and civil society.
