Succession is the hot topic in leadership development, but the subject has rarely been addressed in Christian literature. As a college, university, and seminary president who experienced three successions in leadership, David McKenna is eminently qualified to speak on the subject. He begins by introducing us to the Succession Principle: What we bring to leadership is important. What we do in leadership is more important. What we leave from our leadership is most important of all. Once our priority shifts from success to succession, the door is open to read John 17 as the Prayer of Succession for Jesus. In this final report, Jesus transfers to his disciples and to us the same enduring trust, transforming truth, and unifying love that he has received for leadership from his Father. With these legacies come specific gifts of succession to complete our task, develop disciples, advance the kingdom, and see the fulfillment of Christ's promise, "Greater things than these shall you do." Succession in the spirit of Christ, then, is written not in terms of success, but in the seamless transition of sustainable gifts culminating in the gift of greater things.

David McKenna has penned yet another compelling work that leaders of every stripe need to read and re-read. For all who wish to seal the investment, effort, and influence of your leadership years against the tarnish and corrosion of a poorly-handled transition, this book is for you."" --Jodi Detrick, former columnist, The Seattle Times, Seattle, WA ""McKenna does a masterful job of placing the concept of succession planning squarely where it belongs--as a priority for any leader and manager of an organization seeking to not only improve operations and performance but to sustain its mission. I know I would have benefited by having the tools and concepts articulated by McKenna at my fingertips as I entered various leadership roles."" --Dan Martin, President, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, WA ""After serving more than one hundred man-years on boards, I confess that kingdom resources are consistently wasted by the lack of leadership succession planning, poorly executed leadership transitions, and mistakes in leadership choices. David McKenna clearly articulates the succession challenge facing ministries and beautifully provides a pathway to provide God-honoring leadership continuity."" --Dan Busby, President, Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, Winchester, VA INSIDE BOOK: ""This book feels like what Dave McKenna would say to each of us if we had the privilege of having him coach us in the prime of our ministry leadership."" --R. This book is a proven, practiced witness and I am the grateful recipient of the incarnation of this witness."" --Maxie Dunnam, Chancellor, Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY ""Dave, my friend and presidential predecessor, shares deeply from his own experiences in life and from a wealth of godly wisdom. Holdsworth, William S., and C.W. Vickers. The Law of Succession, Testamentary and Intestate. Oxford: B.H. Blackwell, 1899. xiv, 311 pp. Reprinted 2004 by the Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. ISBN-13: 978-1-58477-471-6. ISBN-10: 1-58477-471-1. Cloth. $125.* Intended as an introductory treatise for law students, this treatise serves as an excellent introduction and a useful reference. And as one would expect from a book co-written by Holdsworth [1871-1944], it goes beyond the law of his day to analyze its historical development. In addition to a valuable introductory chapter on the history of succession, the authors enrich their discussion in the main text with observations on the ways its principles developed over time in response to particular conditions. Their functionalist view, which owes much to Maitland's example, enabled them to create a sophisticated text that avoids the pitfalls of contemporary formalistic and "scientific" treatises.

The Succession To Muhammad written by Wilferd Madelung and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In a comprehensive study of early Islamic history, Wilferd Madelung examines the conflict which developed after Muhammad's death for the leadership of the Muslim community. He pursues the history of this conflict through the reign of the four 'Rightly Guided' caliphs to its climax in the first inter-Muslim war. The outcome of the war, which marked the demise of the reign of the Early Companions, resulted in the lasting schism between Sunnite and Shi'ite Islam. Contrary to recent scholarly trends, the author brings out Ali's early claim to legitimate succession, which gained support from the Shi'a, and offers a convincing reinterpretation of early Islamic history. This book will make a major contribution to the debate over succession. Wilferd Madelung's book The Succession to Muhammad has been awarded the Best Book of the Year prize by the Islamic Republic of Iran for the year 1997.

Intestate Succession is the second volume in the Comparative Succession Law series which examines the principles of succession law from a comparative and historical perspective. This volume discusses the rules which apply where a person dies either without leaving a valid will, or leaving a will which fails to dispose of all of the person's assets. Among the questions considered are the following: What is the nature of the rules for the disposal of the deceased's assets? Are they mechanical or is there an element of discretion? Are particular types of property dealt with in particular ways? Is there entitlement to individual assets (as opposed to money)? Do the rules operate in a parentelic system or a system of some other kind? Are spouses treated more favourably than children? What provision is made for extra-marital children, for adopted children, for step-children? Does cohabitation give rise to entitlement? How are same-sex couples treated? Broader questions also arise of a historical and comparative nature. Where, for example, do the rules in intestate succession come from in particular legal systems? Have they been influenced by the rules in other countries? How are the rules explained and how are they justified? To what extent have they changed over time? What are the long-term trends? And finally, are the rules satisfactory, and is there pressure for their reform? As in the first volume, this book will focus on Europe and on countries which have been influenced by the European experience such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States of America, Quebec, and the countries of Latin America. Further chapters are devoted to Islamic Law and Nordic law. Opening with a discussion on Roman law and concluding with an assessment of the overall development of the law in the countries surveyed, this book will provide a wider reflection on the nature and purpose of the law of intestate succession.
