The Role Of Companion Animals In Counseling And Psychology written by Jane K. Wilkes and has been published by Charles C Thomas Publisher this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Medical categories.

The human health benefits derived from relationships with companion animals has attracted an abundance of scientific interest and research. However, there is a need for theoretical conceptualizations in order to understand the healing benefits of human-animal interactions. The goal of this book is to seek these answers and the OC howOCO and OC whyOCO companion animals play a role in counseling and psychology. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with three psychologists who use animals in their therapy settings. The focus of these interviews was to determine the experiences of having a companion animal present during therapy sessions. The results revealed that pets in therapy: (1) enhanced the therapeutic alliance/relationship, (2) revived the therapeutic environment, (3) improved professional practice, and (4) created a sense of sacredness. The therapy animals seemed to provide the trust and safety needed for clients to work within the transitional space and that the animals may act as transitional objects for some clients. This book suggests that therapy animals are extremely helpful in providing a sense of safety for traumatized clients and could act as catalysts, especially with defensive and/or detached clients. Unique features include: discussion of the domestication of companion animals; research into the human-animal bond; social and psychological support theory; descriptions of methods used; object relations theory and Winnicott's Concepts; implications for the practice of counseling and psychology; professional and ethical considerations; and suggestions for future research. Replete with informative appendices that will serve as valuable knowledge, this book is a significant resource on the subject of animal-assisted therapy for mental health professionals such as counselors, clinical social workers, psychologists, and skilled therapists"

Once A Wolf The Science Behind Our Dogs Astonishing Genetic Evolution written by Bryan Sykes and has been published by Liveright Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-26 with Science categories.

The author of Seven Daughters of Eve returns with a lively account of how all dogs are descended from a mere handful of wolves. How did wolves evolve into dogs? When did this happen, and what role did humans play? Oxford geneticist Bryan Sykes used the full array of modern technology to explore the canine genetic journey that likely began when a human child decided to adopt a wolf cub thousands of years ago. In the process, he discovered that only a handful of genes have created the huge range of shapes, sizes, and colors in modern dogs. Providing scientific insight into these adaptive stages, Sykes focuses attention on our own species, and how our own evolution from (perhaps equally aggressive) primates was enhanced by this most unlikely ally. Whether examining our obsession with canine purity, or delving into the prehistoric past to answer the most fundamental question of all, “Why do we love our dog so much?,” Once a Wolf is an engaging work no dog lover or ancestry aficionado should be without.

In this book, the contributors expand on their use of Mayes archetypal pedagogy in volume 1 to apply its principles to a wide variety of venues, purposes, and projects. Each essay explores from its own disciplinary angle the difference between what Mayes has called “educational processes” (which are those practices that take place in the dedicated space of the classroom, through the medium of the curriculum, and under the stewardship of the teacher) and “educative acts” (which are those deep transactions between individuals in joint pursuit of existential truth, wherein one is alternately the teacher and student in conversation, and sometimes even communion, with one’s dialogical partner”).

Move over Jack Welch and Warren Buffett. The new role model for business leaders isn't a corporate superstar or one of America's wealthiest tycoons. It's the family dog. What can man's best friend teach us about building stronger, more collaborative organizations? Plenty. In From Wags to Riches, management expert Robert Vetere explores how our partnership with dogs, going back to the first human settlements, provides an intriguing model for teamwork in the corporate world. As president of The American Pet Products Association, Vetere has partnered with Purdue University researchers to explore the human-animal bond. Here, he also considers what dogs teach us about intimacy and relationships and tells why they've become the center of American family life. With interviews from CEOs who've learned important lessons from their dogs, From Wags to Riches shows how you can apply insights from dog trainers and animal behavior experts to boost creativity and build a playful environment where people feel free to innovate. Vetere demonstrates that canine-like qualities such as sharing responsibility across pack members and tuning into each other's needs and emotions by observing facial expressions and body cues can dramatically improve your personal effectiveness and ability to lead. From Wags to Riches contains practical tips and canine insights for any dog lover who aspires to become leader of his or her pack.

THE MAYA BOOK OF LIFE: UNDERSTANDING THE XULTUN TAROT is the companion book to the Xultun Tarot Classic Edition. It explores the archetypes and alchemy of the major arcana of the Xultun Tarot through indigenous teachings and the analytical psychology of C G Jung and casts new light on the meaning of 2012. The Xultun Tarot was created by Peter Balin in 1976 based on images from Maya history and culture. Taken from a single painting, it is the only tarot deck where the major arcana form a complete picture. This picture is a symbolic image of the alchemical marriage of spirit and matter and a map of what Jung called the individuation process. Only 500 copies of the original Xultun Tarot were ever printed. Now Kahurangi Press (xultun.com) has recreated this classic, long out-of-print deck true to its original large size and vibrant colours together with a book that explains the profound symbolism of the cards. Michael Owen is a clinical psychologist in private practice and author of Jung and the Native American Moon Cycles. He lives in New Zealand.
