A SAD GOOD-BYE A BASEBALL STORY ABOUT TWO BOYS AND A YOUNG GIRL WHO HAS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. A STORY YOU MUST READ! So Long Talking Baseball is a story of two delightful young boys who have enjoyed learning and playing baseball with the help of their talking ball. But, trouble came their way when they accidentally lost their baseball. In hunting desperately for the ball, they stumbled across a young girl over a fence sitting in a wheelchair. Thinking that she may have seen a team playing earlier and hoping a player on that team hit the ball in her direction, they climbed over the fence to find out. They politely introduced themselves; then asked, Did you happen to see a team playing on the other side of the fence and did one of their players hit a ball toward you? She answered, As a matter of fact, a hitter slammed the ball over the fence and it landed in the grass next to me. When I bent over to pick the ball up, it even spoke to me. The boys knew then that they had found their ball. The girl, held up the ball, trying to return it to the boys. But, as she tried to hand the ball to Jake and Noah, her blanket slipped and the boys could see her badly deformed legs. Noticing their looks, she told them, I have Multiple Schlerosis and my doctor said that Ill never walk again. Jake and Noah refused to accept the ball. They told Samantha, our ball can help you just as it helped us. It will help you to exercise and maybe someday you will walk again. We will say some prayers for you. Meanwhile, we will see you again, we promise. Certainly, well take you on the MS walk, along with the ball, okay? The boys turned to walk away, but took a moment to say their good-bys to the ball. Tears were in their eyes as they said, It isnt good-bye, it is just SO LONG, for now TALKING BASEBALL!

It doesn't matter how old you are or the level at which you play: If you can hit, you are not going to be that 3 inning, one at-bat guy. You are going to be in the line-up every day and the coach is going to find a place for you to play. If that's your goal, this book is for you. It not only works to make sure that you understand your own mechanics, but will ensure that you can figure out when things are off and how to fix them, how to read and adjust from one swing to the next, how to develop and master the swing path that catches the eye of scouts, college coaches and travel team coaches, how to get inside the head of the pitcher, the in-game strategies you can use to know what the pitcher is going to throw before he does and how to approach different hitting situations...and so much more. The book is broken down into easy to read and follow chapters dealing with just about everything there is to hitting. The language is consistent throughout and designed to make sure the hitter can "translate" what coaches are trying to say. For players, parents and coaches, there are 10+ drills that will help hitters master the ability to hit to all fields and to develop a more aggressive approach that works successfully in a larger hitting zone. There is also a chapter dedicated to finding a personal hitting coach and evaluating his effectiveness. Finally, there is a bonus chapter on hitting the curveball. I have coached and taught baseball for more than 35 years, including three different stints in the Dominican Republic. I have also given more than 5000 individual lessons and have coached and trained dozens of players that have made it to professional ball, including one that is currently vying for Rookie of the Year honors in the American League. While there are countless coaches out there that teach hitting, it takes a fluency in the language of hitting and an understanding of the process to gauge how well they are getting their message across. That's why anyone serious about moving forward in the game needs this book. Not only will it advance every aspect of the hitter's knowledge and approach, but it will give him and you, as the parent, the edge you need to see through the cliches and double talk. Whether a college player, an high school player, a travel league player or a Little League player, this book is guaranteed to provide the confidence it takes to make a good hitter and to develop the skills, tools and instincts which lead to in-game success."

Baseball in the 1970s -- remember how fabulous it was? It was a decade of heroes and upsets and dramatic freeze-frame moments. Never had the game been more exciting. Never did it change so radically. In this wonderful oral history featuring interviews with more than thirty-five players, managers, coaches, scouts, announcers, and owners, veteran sportswriter Phil Pepe brings one incredible baseball decade back to life in the words of the guys who played -- and lived -- the game. The decade was only sixteen days old when St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Curt Hood initiated what may prove to be the most important legal action in baseball history -- his challenge of the iron-clad reserve clause. On the lighter side, the 1970s ushered in wife-swapping pitchers, fu manchus, and Disco Demolition night; it was the first time a player ever earned a million bucks. Fans were screaming "Ya gotta believe" and "We are family", while terms like designated hitter, free agent, and night World Series game entered the lexicon of the game.Ron Blomberg became the first DH. The Big Red Machine dominated the National League. Reggie Jackson had a candy bar named after him. Hank Aaron became the all-time home-run king. And Yankee captain Thurman Munson died in a tragic plane crash. It all happened in one amazing decade -- and it's all here in one stupendous book.
