Tarzan was the son of a Lord and Lady who were marooned in Africa. After his parents died he was raised in the jungle by Great Apes. These epic stories were created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first novel was entitled "Tarzan of the Apes," and thereafter twenty-five other novels were written. Put aside expectations from movie and cartoon versions of the story, the book is much darker and Tarzan is a complex, interesting creation. The stories are fast paced adventures. This edition brings together the first eight novels, in the order in which Burroughs wrote them, a wonderful collection for anyone interested in these classic tales.

The Tarzan Collection includes the first five Tarzan novels, including Tarzan of the Apes, The Return of Tarzan, The Beasts of Tarzan, The Son of Tarzan, and Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar. Tarzan's jungle upbringing gives him abilities far beyond those of ordinary humans. His strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and swimming skills are put to the test when he wrestles not just full-grown apes, but also gorillas, leopards, lions, and crocodiles. Tarzan has been called one of the best-known literary characters in the world. In addition to literature, the character has appeared in films, radio, television, comic strips, and comic books. Burroughs considered other names for the character, including "Zantar" and "Tublat Zan," before he settled on "Tarzan." Tarzan has remained popular; Burroughs's melodramatic situations and the elaborate details he works into his fictional world, such as his construction of a partial language for his great apes, appeal to a worldwide fan base. Tarzan remains one of the most successful fictional characters to this day and is a cultural icon. This case laminate collector's edition includes a Victorian inspired dust-jacket.

The Tarzan Collection 1: 4 Novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs: Tarzan of the Apes, The Return of Tarzan, The Beasts of Tarzan , The Son of Tarzan.Tarzan of the Apes The novel tells the story of John Clayton, born in the western coastal jungles of equatorial Africa to a marooned couple from England, John and Alice (Rutherford) Clayton, Lord and Lady Greystoke. Adopted as an infant by the she-ape Kala after his parents died (his father is killed by the savage king ape Kerchak), Clayton is named "Tarzan" ("White Skin" in the ape language) and raised in ignorance of his human heritage. The Return of Tarzan The novel picks up where Tarzan of the Apes left off. The ape man, feeling rootless in the wake of his noble sacrifice of his prospects of wedding Jane Porter, leaves America for Europe to visit his friend Paul d'Arnot. On the ship he becomes embroiled in the affairs of Countess Olga de Coude, her husband, Count Raoul de Coude, and two shady characters attempting to prey on them, Nikolas Rokoff and his henchman Alexis Paulvitch. Rokoff, it turns out, is also the countess's brother. The Beasts of Tarzan The story begins a year after the conclusion of the previous book, Tarzan (Lord Greystoke) and Jane have had a son, whom they've named Jack. Tarzan has spent much time building an estate home on the Waziri lands in Uziri, Africa, but has returned to his ancestral estate in London for the rainy season. The Son of TarzanIn this novel, for the first and only time in the Tarzan series, the main character is not Tarzan himself but his son Jack, who becomes known as Korak, first introduced (as a baby) in the earlier novels The Eternal Lover (1914/15) and The Beasts of Tarzan (1914)

Tarzan ("...the Apeman") is a fictional character, an archetypal feral child raised in the African jungles by the Mangani "great apes"; he later experiences civilization only to largely reject it and return to the wild as a heroic adventurer. Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan first appeared in the novel Tarzan of the Apes (magazine publication 1912, book publication 1914), and then in twenty-five sequels, three authorized books by other authors, and innumerable works in other media, authorized and not. Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875 – March 19, 1950) was an American writer, best known for his creations of the jungle hero Tarzan and the heroic Mars adventurer John Carter, although he produced works in many genres.

I had this story from one who had no business to tell it to me, or to any other. I may credit the seductive influence of an old vintage upon the narrator for the beginning of it, and my own skeptical incredulity during the days that followed for the balance of the strange tale. When my convivial host discovered that he had told me so much, and that I was prone to doubtfulness, his foolish pride assumed the task the old vintage had commenced, and so he unearthed written evidence in the form of musty manuscript, and dry official records of the British Colonial Office to support many of the salient features of his remarkable narrative.

Jungle Tales of Tarzan is a collection of twelve loosely connected short stories by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, comprising the sixth book in order of publication in his series of twenty-four books about the title character Tarzan. Chronologically the events recounted in it occur within Chapter 11 of the first Tarzan novel, Tarzan of the Apes, between Tarzan's avenging of his ape foster mother's death and his becoming leader of his ape tribe. The book is a collection of 12 loosely connected short stories of Tarzan's late teenage years, set within a year or two before Tarzan first sees white people including Jane Porter. According to Tarzan Alive, Philip José Farmer's study of the ape man's life and career, the incidents of this book occurred from February, 1907-August, 1908 (aside from the eclipse incident in the final tale, there apparently having been no such eclipse visible from equatorial Africa during this period).
