Among the most prominent hallmarks of the late Prof. Hanan Eshel (1958–2010) were his generosity, passion, and integrative approach. The eighteen essays in this volume were selected by Prof. Eshel shortly before his untimely death, to be printed as a collection aimed at contextualizing the textual finds of the Dead Sea Scrolls within their archaeological settings and within the contours of contemporary scholarship. The Qumran texts that stand at the center of these articles are correlated with archaeological and geographic information and with a variety of textual sources including epigraphic evidence and, especially, the Hebrew Bible, Josephus, and rabbinic texts. The essays are organized according to the provenance of the discovered material, with sections devoted to the Damascus Documentand the scrolls from Caves 1, 3, 4, and 11, as well as a final more general chapter.Half of the essays have been previously published in English, while the other half have been translated from Hebrew here for the first time. The book includes essays that have been co-authored with Esther Eshel, Shlomit Kendi-Harel, Zeev Safrai, and John Strugnell.

There is no magic, only Ka'uun-the energy of creation-provided by the planet's spirit; the urKa'uun are its users. Caught in the angst of being a teenager, Bartholomew Fix rails against what he perceives to be a pointless and mundane existence, craving some sort of adventure. He gets more than he bargains for as he is infected the bite of the Wandering Bug and compelled to seek out an agent of the Universe who transports him to another planet in need of his off-world energy. He awakens in the home of a great urKa'uun and becomes his apprentice where he learns how to use Ka'uun and none too soon for the thousand-year king is dying before his time, causing the realm to be on the brink of war. They have fought each other for ages under the slave yolk of the Perq, recently chased out of their world. The king, the one empowered with enough Ka'uun to stop the five kingdoms of men from warring with each other and keep the fearsome Urilok at bay, needs the answer that the Scrolls of Udanadar may hold on its pages. The boy is sent out with the urKa'uun's other ward, a skilled girl born of the wild-wise Duvar, to bring back the Scrolls of Udandar, containing the instructions creating the king and the kingmaker device, which can find the successor. But a simple mission is never so simple, and soon the two find themselves on a quest spanning the realm to find these items and stave off war. The adventure is at times humorous and other times fraught with danger as they face bandits, pirates, evil spirits, and an ancient enemy that rears its head. These trials force Bartholomew to grow from a naive boy concerned with the little things in his world, into a brave hero learning what is to sacrifice in order to achieve a higher goal.

Barbara Wood's 1978 debut novel is now back in print in a new edition from Turner Publishing. When the first of the Magdalene Scrolls arrives, Professor Ben Messer is puzzled, intrigued, excited. What scholar of ancient languages wouldn’t be, when he held in his hands something even more astonishing than the Dead Sea Scrolls—a scroll just discovered to contain the life story and last confession of a man who had lived in Jerusalem just after the death of Christ. By the time the second scroll arrives, Ben’s interest has begun to be more than professional. For it seems that David, the writer of the ancient scrolls, is in many ways very much like Ben—and he seems to be speaking directly to Ben, across nearly 2,000 years of history. Before long, the terrifying transformation has begun, and there can be no turning back. What do the words of a Jew who lived 2,000 years ago have to do with today, and with Ben Messer, a man who had forsaken his Jewish identity years ago—or thought he had. And why does David’s life suddenly seem so much more real—and powerful—than Ben’s own? Why does Ben suddenly shut himself off from the beautiful woman he intends to marry and become involved with Judy Golden, a very different kind of woman? And what will happen if Ben surrenders completely to the power of the scrolls? Before long, the terrifying transformation has begun, and there can be no turning back . . .

Winner of the 2015 Choice Outstanding Academic Title Award Winner of the Frank Moore Cross Award for Best Book in Biblical Studies from ASOR Winner of the Biblical Archaeology Society 2017 Publication Award for Best Book Relating to the Hebrew Bible Eugene Ulrich presents in The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Developmental Composition of the Bible ( (also available as paperback) the comprehensive and synthesized picture he has gained as editor of many biblical scrolls. His earlier volume, The Biblical Qumran Scrolls, presented the evidence — the transcriptions and textual variants of all the biblical scrolls — and this volume explores the implications and significance of that evidence. The Bible has not changed, but modern knowledge of it certainly has changed. The ancient Scrolls have opened a window and shed light on a period in the history of the text’s formation that had languished in darkness for two thousand years. They offer a parade of surprises that greatly enhance knowledge of how the scriptural texts developed through history.

The Scroll of Yeshayahu is an in-depth exploration of the Prophet Isaiah. It is different in that a systematic overview and commentary of the text are provided as we discover hidden patterns and messages in his writings. Topics include Isaiah’s prophetic viewpoint — which contains Historical, Messianic, and End-Times Predictions — to the prophet’s case for the divinity of the Christ; his writings are a testament to the miracle of scripture. As a result, this book provides a solid defense for the reliability of Scripture, the deity of the Jewish Messiah, and the glory of God revealed in Yeshua.
