It has been set forth, according to my reading of it, in the Introduction, and is further enforced by the arrangement of the whole work and the treatment of its various parts. To the practitioner as well as to the student the Law of Evidence presents some difficulties. It is not easy, for example, to define exactly the scope and limits of such heads of Evidence as Declarations as to Violence or as toviii preface. Pedigree, or Reputation as to Public and General Rights and the same is true of other titles. Special pains have been taken to present these more difficult parts of the subject in a clear and intelligible form.
