This book presents a series of perspectives on the therapeutic potential of the ritual and clinical use of the Amazonian hallucinogenic brew ayahuasca in the treatment and management of various diseases and ailments, especially its role in psychological well-being and substance dependence. Biomedical and anthropological data on the use of ayahuasca for treating depression, PTSD, and substance dependence in different settings, such as indigenous contexts, neo-shamanic rituals, contemporary therapeutic circles, and in ayahuasca religions, in both South and North America, are presented and critiqued. Though multiple anecdotal reports on the therapeutic use of ayahuasca exist, there has been no systematic and dense reflection on the topic thus far. The book brings the therapeutic use of ayahuasca to a new level of public examination and academic debate. The texts in this volume stimulate discussion on methodological, ethical, and political aspects of research and will enhance the development of this emergent field of studies.

Substance Use Disorders Treatment In Therapeutic Communities written by Miroslav Horák and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-19 with Psychology categories.

This book presents an in-depth qualitative study carried out with inpatients under treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs) in seven therapeutic communities (TCs) located in three countries: Peru, Nicaragua and Czech Republic. By comparing the experiences in these different cultural contexts, the book presents a grounded theory of SUDs treatment in TCs from a cross-cultural perspective, identifying factors that influence the efficacy of SUDs treatment in TCs based on interviews carried out with inpatients. Based on rigorous qualitative research methods, this book presents not only a comparative analysis of TCs located in different cultural contexts, but also analyzes the cross-cultural nature of the therapeutic programs adopted in these communities, such as the combination of traditional Amazonian medicine based on the therapeutic use of ayahuasca with conventional psychotherapy and occupational therapy, among other approaches. Departing from the interviews carried out with inpatients, the authors present a comparative analysis of how the different TCs address important issues related to SUDs treatment, and complement this analysis with machine-generated summaries of relevant scientific papers. These summaries contain results of similar research projects conducted in other cultural contexts. Substance Use Disorders Treatment in Therapeutic Communities: A Cross-Cultural Approach presents the results of a unique comparative study with great translational potential which will be of interest to both researchers and practitioners working in TCs. This unique comparative study identifies factors affecting the efficacy of therapeutic programs and proposes a grounded theory which aims to serve as an important source of information for therapists and other professionals working with SUDs treatment and for the replication of applied therapeutic methods in other TCs.

By now you are probably aware of the Indigenous Amazonian plant medicine Ayahuasca and its popularity around the globe as a spiritual and therapeutic tool. Ayahuasca is a unique brew with a rich history, made from the sacred vine Banisteriopsis Caapi and the leaves of a plant containing DMT, sometimes called "the spirit molecule". You may have seen or heard references to ayahuasca in the media or in casual conversation, or you may know someone who has tried it or who wants to try it. You may be wondering what it is and if it's a legitimate healing modality or just another unsubstantiated wellness fad. You may also be curious as to how a hallucinogenic tea, which is illegal in most countries, came to be lauded not only by average people but by scientists and scholars as a powerful treatment for spiritual and psychological disorders. You may also be curious as to why people would risk sometimes serious legal repercussions to use it when they could easily obtain an FDA-approved (if unhelpful and potentially harmful) pharmaceutical drug from their doctor... Ayahuasca: The Psychedelic Experience will give you as many answers to your questions as you can get without actually drinking it. After reading this book you'll understand the history of the tea, its place in Amazonian cultures, how shamans conduct ayahuasca ceremonies, and what the "ayahuasca boom" means to Amazonian people and the burgeoning international community of people who use it. You'll learn what effects it has on the user both in the short and the long term. You'll also learn about how to safely navigate finding a ceremony in the Amazon and what to expect from one after you find it... In this book you'll learn: What is Ayahuasca? The Origin of Ayahuasca History of Ayahuasca and how it became known in the West How to make and prepare Ayahuasca What Ayahuasca is used for How Ayahuasca is traditionally administered Different uses of Ayahuasca and why one would choose a certain use The science behind Ayahuasca Effects of Ayahuasca in the body Controversy around Ayahuasca And so much more! People are growing increasingly tired of being dictated to regarding how they treat their own bodies and minds, and as a result, they are turning towards alternative methods of holistic healing and spiritual development. This psychedelic plant medicine is legal in the Amazonian countries where it is traditionally used, and thousands of people from every corner of the world travel to South America every year to treat themselves for conditions that they can't receive adequate treatment for at home. Others hold secret "ayahuasca circles" in countries where possession of the medicine is prohibited, in spaces such as diverse modest apartments or rented rooms or million-dollar mansions. From the Amazon rainforest to Silicon Valley to remote Swedish provinces, La medicine is the people's choice of treatment for the physical, mental, and spiritual disorders of our time. Learn more about this fascinating and versatile tea and use the knowledge you gain to decide for yourself whether you are ready to take the next step on your ayahuasca journey... This book is a one-stop shop for anything the potential journeyer might need to know about this amazing and transformative sacrament. It has been used in the jungle for countless generations, and only in modern times have Westerners been able to access this life-changing experience. With this book as your guide, you'll have everything you need to know to begin planning your own experience... Grab your copy of Ayahuasca: The Psychedelic Experience now!
