Could John Albert, former CIA operative and current head of Stony Brook University's Ancient Language Studies Department, actually have received a communication from AD first century? That's what he believes after he opens a package of antique scrolls with an introduction that personally addresses him in ancient Greek. He is further intrigued when he realizes that the rest of the text is written in the same Qumran-Hebrew language as the Dead Sea Scrolls. Wasting little time, John takes a sabbatical so that he can go to England to utilize Oxford's reference library in translating the mysterious writings. There, he meets beautiful Emma Ferry, who will become not only his partner in deciphering the origins and meaning of the scrolls, but his romantic partner as well. Together, they will soon discover that there are other decidedly ruthless individuals who are also interested in the scrolls—more for their potential monetary value in the antiquities market than the message they might contain. Meanwhile, back in New York City, Sister Lily Elizabeth Alberti, blessed with the mystical ability to heal, applies her gift to the critically ill from her home with a secret order of nuns housed at the Cloisters. What is the connection between John Albert and Sister Lily Elizabeth? They are brother and sister, and Lily, who has unearthed the scrolls from the darkest depths of the papal archives while researching the healing arts at the Vatican, knows that the only way to get her brother to help her translate the documents is to shroud them in an irresistible mystery. There is one more faction with particular interest in the scrolls—members of the clandestine sect known only as the Guild, descendants of the legendary Knights Templar, whose mission is to prepare for the Second Coming. Though they are not privy to the specific content of the scrolls, they know that they contain a sacred message for mankind. As the different pieces of this mystical thriller come together, ancient mysteries begin to reveal themselves, and other provocative questions come to light. Could Jesus himself have been the author of the scrolls? How will the hierarchy of the contemporary Roman Catholic Church reconcile with the monumentally powerful information that Sister Lily Elizabeth has brought to them and continues to struggle to not only understand but master? And will John Albert be ready emotionally and spiritually for the challenges that he has been predestined to face? The reader is taken on a magical journey, from Long Island, New York, to ancient Greece, through the halls of academia, and behind the walls of the Roman Catholic Church in Rome, as the author tells this tale of intrigue, romance, and faith. One of the people that have read this manuscript cried when the book ended. She cried because she said that she wished that what the scroll revealed could have been the truth. The third scroll contains the gift of healing and the creation of life, and John Albert and Sister Lily Elizabeth take the information from this scroll and go forward using these gifts and teaching others how to use them. The mystery ends with the pope confiscating the scrolls and reburying them in the bowels of the Vatican.

Rejected by Godor called to an uncommon path? The eleven apostles cast lots to determine whom the Holy Spirit would pick to replace Judas Iscariot; he must be someone who had been with Jesus the whole time. That left either Joseph bar Sabbas, called Justus, or Matthias. The stones were cast, and the lot fell to Matthias. Even so, Justus wouldnt be denied his dream. He had mingled among the disciples for more than three years. He had been close to Jesus, held private conversations with him, and had laughed with him. Hed slept around the same campfires, visited the same homes, and eaten at the same tables. Now, Justus would chart a new path. He would reveal everything he knew about his Lord from the viewpoint of a privileged witness. Justus began to write. What was it like to be near Jesus in everyday situations or to see him in action in his greatest moments? Did Jesus have a childhood best friend? How did he relate to his fish-breathed disciples? What did he feel when the crowd cried out for his death? Justus logged all of this in a series of scrolls and began a journey to house the treasure at the great library in Alexandria, Egypt. Perhaps, someday they would be seen.

A cult has formed in the wealthy oceanfront community of East Point, Rhode Island. They call themselves Essenes, drawing their name from a religious, communal brotherhood that existed along the Dead Sea during the time of Christ. This new sect's mission, based on a series of recently discovered ancient scrolls, is to release their god from his prison, a prison which they believe to be a comet that passes the Earth once every one thousand years. Leading the Essenes is Seth Grey, a ruthless and power hungry man who will kill in order to bring the prophecy of the scrolls to fulfillment. Jack Bennett is a college senior at a small school in Maryland. One day he receives a disk containing a translation of an ancient scroll from his parents, archeologists working on a dig along the shore of the Dead Sea. Soon, Jack finds himself on the run as people around him begin to die. Seth Grey and the Essenes have come for their translation. Also pulled into the world of the Essenes are a budding journalist whose first big story could be her last, and a classics professor from Yale, who happens to have the scroll the Essenes want.

The author describes the drastic changes or revolutions that have occurred in the interpretation of the Bible during his own lifetime. The author uses his own experiences to describe these revolutions and to reflect on what consequences they have had for his own life-story. The first revolution was the introduction of the historical-critical approach. The Bible was interpreted as historical in a broad sense, not in all its details. In a Roman university the author later found that this broad historical verification of the Bible became more and more problematic. The second revolution is described as the Bible as Literature methodology. This approach puts aside his- tory and examines the Bible as a clever and subtle literary document which has controlled religious belief and practice but cannot be substantiated as historical fact. There was a third revolution. Within the secular university scene, the author became involved in the study of anthropology and sociology. Judaism and Christianity were seen as religions amongst other religions; their sacred writings were seen as sacred writings alongside others. The new approach forces him to rethink the history of Israel, the relevance of the Hebrew Scriptures and Judaism itself; he also has to rethink the history of Jesus, the relevance of the Christian Scriptures and Christianity. This life journey should be of interest to those working in the fields of biblical and religion studies.

"The social structure of contemporary Korea contains strong echoes of the hierarchical principles and patterns governing stratification in the Chosŏn dynasty (1392–1910): namely, birth and one’s position in the bureaucracy. At the beginning of Korea’s modern era, the bureaucracy continued to exert great influence, but developments undermined, instead of reinforced, aristocratic dominance. Furthermore, these changes elevated the secondary status groups of the Chosŏn dynasty, those who had belonged to hereditary, endogamous tiers of government and society between the aristocracy and the commoners: specialists in foreign languages, law, medicine, and accounting; the clerks who ran local administrative districts; the children and descendants of concubines; the local elites of the northern provinces; and military officials. These groups had languished in subordinate positions in both the bureaucratic and social hierarchies for hundreds of years under an ethos and organization that, based predominantly on family lineage, consigned them to a permanent place below the Chosŏn aristocracy. As the author shows, the political disruptions of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, however, rewarded talent instead of birth. In turn, these groups’ newfound standing as part of the governing elite allowed them to break into, and often dominate, the cultural, literary, and artistic spheres as well as politics, education, and business." "Mount Tai in northeastern China has long been a sacred site. Indeed, it epitomizes China’s religious and social diversity. Throughout history, it has been a magnet for both women and men from all classes—emperors, aristocrats, officials, literati, and villagers. For much of the past millennium, however, the vast majority of pilgrims were illiterate peasants who came to pray for their deceased ancestors, as well as for sons, good fortune, and health. Each of these social groups approached Mount Tai with different expectations. Each group’s or individual’s view of the world, interpersonal relationships, and ultimate goals or dreams—in a word, its identity—was reflected in its interactions with this sacred site. This book examines the behavior of those who made the pilgrimage to Mount Tai and their interpretations of its sacrality and history, as a means of better understanding their identities and mentalities. It is the first to trace the social landscape of Mount Tai, to examine the mindsets not just of prosperous, male literati but also of women and illiterate pilgrims, and to combine evidence from fiction, poetry, travel literature, and official records with the findings of studies of material culture and anthropology."

Since the days before the Great Flood, angels, called Nephilim, roamed the land and began to breed with humans, destroying the DNA of mankind and infecting the human race with the evil that had infected them from the fall of Lucifer who then hated God so much he brought sin to the earth in the form of a serpent causing Adam and Eve to fall in the garden, allowing generational sin to continue down through the ages. Just as sons and daughters receive an inheritance from their parents, they also receive sin from the parents as well. But why did Lucifer do this? If we go to the Bible, I think we can find the answer. It began with the creation of the angels, especially the angel Lucifer who is described in the Book of Isaiah 14aEUR"12 and Ezekiel 28aEUR"13 as being perfect in all his ways until sin was found in him. He was also described as the most beautiful creature God ever made. Diamonds, rubies, and emeralds were his covering. In other words, he made the jewels of the earth look good. But again, why did he fall? I believe one day, Lucifer took a long look into the mirror and thought to himself; Man, you are one good-looking dude. Any angel that looks this good should be a god himself. And it caused pride to well up inside himself, causing him to sin. Did God know Lucifer would sin? Sure, he did. God is omniscient. There is nothing hidden from him. God also saw the pride well up inside Lucifer, for God is also omnipresent as well. And like the infection the angels brought to the earth, Lucifer infected a third of the angels of heaven, causing war in the third heaven, which is in the sides of the north. And there was war in heaven and Michael the Archangel along with His angels fought with the Devil and His angels. (Revelation 12:7) And the devil was kicked unto the earth, taking one-third of the stars, which are also called angels with him., which brings us back to the Great Flood. God saw what the angels had caused by mating with humans. To stop the destruction of man, God sent the flood to destroy the angelsaEUR(tm) DNA off the earth. Only eight souls were saved to carry on the human race, and to make sure the angels no longer mated with humans, their angelic bodies were taken away, leaving them with a disembodied spirit, to be called by mankind by the term demons. This stayed the same until the tribulation period when ten of these evil spirits gained their freedom to inhabit human bodies once again. They created a conspiracy to destroy humans using an information chip which every human would have to take if they were to buy or sell anything. Without the chip, you would die. If you took the chip, you were bound for a lake of fire, a place that was made and reserved for the devil and his angels. The Pyramid conspiracy was instituted by these ten with the Antichrist at the top.
