A fully illustrated guide to the original Chinese form of Reiki • Includes step-by-step photos covering techniques of protection, detoxification, intention, intuition, preparation, and the laying on of hands • Reveals the three secrets of the Tao Te Qi physical, emotional, and mental centers Recognized for its support of self-healing and overall well-being, Reiki is now used in hospitals throughout the world. Commonly viewed as a Japanese healing art, the practice of Reiki originated with the Chen Yen masters of China, who called it Tao Te Qi. Transmitted to Idris Lahore by his grandfather, a direct student of Master Huang Zhen Hui, Reiki Tao Te Qi offers students of Reiki a deeper understanding of the Reiki principles and new ways to enrich the effectiveness of their practice. Revealing sanmitsu--the three Reiki secrets of the Tao Te Qi physical, emotional, and mental centers--this fully illustrated guide covers the 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-degree Reiki training courses and initiations as first taught by the Chen Yen masters of China. Exploring the history of Reiki in China as well as its earliest roots in Indian ayurveda, yoga, and tantra, the book explains the Three Pillars of Reiki--Ajikan (meditation), Nei Gong (techniques of protection, detoxification, and intention), and Chiryo (intuition and the laying on of hands). This book also offers chapters on Reiki as a spiritual path, the ethical principles of Reiki, and Reiki’s relationship to psychogenealogy and ancestral healing. Outlining invaluable preparation techniques for more effective practice as well as ways to use Reiki to harmonize the chakras, this guide shows how Reiki Tao Te Qi can transform even the most negative energies into harmonizing, curative, creative energies.

Reiki is an emerging adjunctive therapy that claims to provide physical and psychological healing as well as an experience of spiritual connection. It is increasingly employed in counseling centers, hospitals, and even churches. Reiki is believed by many to be a safe, non-invasive healing intervention that draws individuals towards God. Reiki practitioners maintain that they imitate Jesus' laying on of hands and claim that their praxis is essentially the same as the healing used by Jesus as well as by Buddha. An ethnographic multi-case study was performed comparing the experiences of nine individuals, four who received Reiki therapy and five who received Christ-based hands-on healing. The long interview format was employed. The transcribed data were coded and analyzed for similar and distinct themes. In addition, a brief survey was utilized to determine the spiritual interests and involvement of each participant and the spiritual consequences of their healing experiences. The findings indicate that Reiki healing is distinct from that which is depicted in the Bible. Reiki appears to open up individuals to an "energy-based" healing modality that is spiritual in nature but is not specifically Christian. As reported by Reiki practitioners, it is a spirituality which welcomes shamanism, psychic healing, clairvoyance, spirit guides, and a host of other metaphysical practices as individuals become more intimately involved. In addition, the research demonstrates that Reiki therapy, over time, can cause physical, emotional, and spiritual harm. The writer contends that biblical healing, which at its core is soteriological and dependent upon the ministry of the Holy Spirit, heals mind, body, and spirit without harmful consequences.

In Tai Chi Chuan and the Code of Life, Graham Horwood describes the various styles of Tai Chi Chuan, exploring its roots in the Chinese philosophy of Taoism as well as elaborating on the evolution it has undergone over millennia. In order to understand the energetic method of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung, he highlights parallels between its source, The I Ching, and archetypal principles from both Eastern and Western philosophy and medicine. The text and diagrams show the synergy between the different cultures, and shows how they are all linked. This enables the beginner or the experienced Tai Chi practitioner to improve their understanding of Tai Chi, which will strengthen both the mind and body, opening the gateway to the inner person. Drawing on information from the Yang family's formerly secret teachings, the book explains how to build chi (energy), circulate and store it, and also includes an exclusive set of Chi Kung exercises which will augment the building, circulation and storage of chi for the healer and martial practitioner, showing the path to optimizing the practitioner's energetic and spiritual development. The exercises are accompanied by an explanation of where chi comes from and its application for the mind and body as well as the flow in the meridians. The book provides an excellent introduction to both the theory and key practices of Tai Chi Chuan for the beginner, and multi-level insights for the seasoned practitioner that will enhance his or her practice and understanding of Tai Chi Chuan.
