N the drama, The Trial of Jesus, John Masefield has the centurion Longinus report to Pilate after the crucifixion of Jesus. Longinus had been the officer in charge of the execution, and after his official report, Procula, Pilate's wife calls the centurion to come and tell her how the prisoner had died. This was important to her because she had dreamed about Jesus the night before his death and tried to warn Pilate to let him go. After the centurion gives her the account of Jesus' death, she asks, "Do you think he is dead?" Longinus answers, "No, lady, I don't." "Then where is he?" asks Procula. Longinus replies, "Let loose in the world, lady, where neither Roman nor Jew can stop his truth." Indeed, Jesus is let loose in the world. His truth continues to change hearts and lives.

"The authors of this volume set themselves one task, to trace the extra-biblical primary texts that are relevant for understanding Jesus' trial and crucifixion. With that goal in mind, the book is built on three major themes: (1) Jesus' trial / interrogation before the Sanhedrin, (2) Jesus' trial before Pontius Pilatus, and (3) crucifixion as a method of execution in antiquity. In chronologically sequential order (where possible), the authors select and arrange an overwhelming amount of extra-biblical primary texts -- 462 to be exact -- underneath these three categories (75, 46, and 341 texts respectively)."--Brian J. Wright in Religious Studies Review.

Trial Of Jesus written by Alan Watson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10 with Religion categories.

In The Trial of Jesus Alan Watson argues that by virtue of Jesus's conviction and crucifixion at the hands of the Romans he failed to fulfill the prophecy of his messiahship in the manner he had intended. Jesus's destiny, as he saw it, was to be condemned by the Jewish authorities to death by stoning. This is just one of the provoking insights in Watson's fresh interpretation of the arrest, trial, and conviction of Jesus. Drawing on the four Gospels, writings from the period, and Jewish and Roman laws and customs, Watson adds substantially to what we know about Jesus himself, his prophesies, the justness of the charges against him, his degree of guilt, and the powers, prerogatives, and motivations of his accusers. The Trial of Jesus joins three other works by Watson--Jesus and the Jews, Jesus and the Law, and Jesus: A Profile (all Georgia)--to examine the early dynamism of western religion through refocused attention on biblical texts and other historical sources.

The Passion According To Luke written by Jerome H. Neyrey SJ and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-05-01 with Religion categories.

Jerome Neyrey brings a remarkably enlightened approach to the Passion Narrative, and to Luke's particular version of it. The book begins where previous studies leave off, for it goes beyond traditional questions of source and historicity and treats the Lukan Passion Narrative from the standpoint of redaction criticism. Neyrey offers a fresh literary analysis of the text, along with significant thematic and theological insights into Luke's version of Jesus's Passion. Five major episodes in the Passion Narrative are treated: The Farewell Address at the Last Supper, the Garden, Jesus's Trials, his Address to the Women, and the Crucifixion. Although rich in detail, this book continually offers a unified view of the text; readers are constantly offered overviews, summaries of the data, and interpretation of it. The book breaks new ground in suggesting a distinctive Lukan soteriology of the cross and a corresponding Christology. Study of the faith of the dying Jesus becomes a major clue for seeing Jesus as the New Adam in Luke-Acts. This book significantly advances our reading of Luke, especially by the way Acts is brought to bear as an interpretive clue to Luke's whole project, Luke-Acts. Contemporary interpretation of Luke demands study of the way Lukan structures and themes are continued and confirmed in Acts, which holds true especially for the Passion Narrative. Luke brings the story of Jesus into harmony with the story of his church.
