Excerpt from The Trinummus of T. Maccius Plautus: Translated Into Literal English, With Notes This translation being intended for the "General" Examination, my object has been to translate as literally as is compatible with fair English. The notes are merely such as are necessary for the explanation of the translation itself, not of the Latin; Where words are supplied, I have pointed it out in the foot-notes, instead of bracketing the introduced phrase in the text: and I have occasionally inserted such words as "Now" "since" &c. at the beginning of a sentence, without noticing it. I have not thought it necessary to translate "edepol" "pol" &c. "by Pollux," but have tried to suit the rendering of the interjection to the sense of the passage.
