"The Saddharma-Puṇḍarīka (The Lotus of the True Law), one of the Mahayana sutras, is perhaps the single most important Mahayana Buddhist work. Composed originally in India, some sections written as early as the beginning of the Christian era, the Lotus is held in enormous esteem by the Northern schools of Buddhism and by Chinese and Japanese Buddhists, particularly Tendai and later developments. Described as "the most eminent" of all the sutras, "the crown jewel" in which "all Buddha-laws are succinctly taught," the Lotus is a keystone in the education of every serious Buddhist. This sutra is essentially a collection of responses, explanations, ex cathedra lectures, and the like, bearing chiefly upon metaphysical issues: the nature of Buddhahood, the concept of nirvana, the Bodhisattva ideal, the rewards of the faithful, and other theoretical matters, that have become essential dogma in all Buddhist schools that have since arisen. A transfiguration of the traditional Buddha-situation is presented: the historical Buddha, the Tathagata or Sakyamuni, is seen in his eternal, supernatural aspect; he sits surrounded by an array of gods, arahats, demons, bodhisattvas, gandharvas, monks and nuns--all eager to hear the infinitely wise utterances of the Great Teacher. The revelations are made sometimes by Sakyamuni, addressing his historical sangha, including Ananda, Sariputra, Kasyapa, et al., and at other times by the Buddhas of the past and the future, Manjusri and Maitreya. This edition contains the complete translation of the Lotus, rendered from Sanskrit by Professor Kern. He has also written a critical introduction to the work and has clarified and supplemented the text by means of numerous footnotes." -- Publisher's description

George Buchanan (1506-82) was one of the most distinguished humanists of the Northern European Renaissance. Hailed by his contemporaries as the greatest Latin poet of his age, he is chiefly remembered today as a radical political theorist whose Dialogus, first published in Edinburgh in 1579, justified the deposition of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1567 on the basis of a theory of popular sovereignty, which vested in the people the right to resist, depose and kill tyrannical monarchs. Dedicated to his pupil James VI, whose violent reaction against his tutor's ideas led him to develop his own views on the divine right of kings, Buchanan's work nevertheless proved immensely influential both in Britain and on the Continent, making a notable contribution to the debates over the nature and location of sovereignty which would finally bear fruit in the writings of John Locke. This new edition, featuring facing-page Latin text and English translation, is accompanied by extensive notes and commentary on Buchanan's classical and contemporary sources and a detailed introduction that examines the development of Buchanan's political thought, the context in which the Dialogus was written and published, and an extended analysis of the text itself.

The Divine Right Of Kings written by John Neville Figgis and has been published by CUP Archive this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1914 with Divine right of kings categories.

"Figgis sets his analysis in Europe beginning from the early Middle Ages, with how nobles would often elect fellows to act as king (lord of lords), and who were bound to the customary laws of the land. Through a series of theocratic power struggles originating in the Holy Roman Empire, and the transformation of being a king of a people to being king over a land, and the eventual resolution of those power struggles (in England), Figgis gives a thorough account of the development of Divine Right as it came to be stated by James VI. You will find a thoroughly researched work which traces step-by-step the evolution of DROK, taking the time to demonstrate the nuances of moral laws and adherence to them which are counterintuitive to modern interpretations of pre-modern ideas (such as resisting a king who has contradicted God's law, in order to serve that king), and its different expression and application by Catholics, Protestants and Presbyterians. The in-depth account of DROK will give you an excellent picture of the historical and political landscape occurring right at the birth of humanity into modernity. The book is a vital companion to anyone studying ideas of sovereignty, power, political doctrines, theocracy, or the events and ideas which led up to the execution of Charles I; referencing Marsilius of Padua, Jean Bodin, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. Likewise, Figgis' work is vital for wider reference towards other philosophical works which were themselves discussing DROK (such as Hegel's Philosophy of Right), or of political responses to ideas of sovereignty, such as the school of Karl Marx (Including Giovanni Gentile, Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler); utilitarians; or the post-modernists (Agamben) and post-structuralists (Michel Foucault and Jacques Derrida)" --Amazon.com
