At the beginning of April 2015, newly-promoted Leicester City were seven points adrift at the foot of the Premier League. What happened next was truly extraordinary. Not only did Leicester pull off one of the great escapes to survive in the top flight but they continued their form into the following season. The manager who orchestrated Leicester’s promotion and survival, Nigel Pearson, had left the club by then, replaced by the former Chelsea, Juventus and Roma manager Claudio Ranieri. The press gave “the Tinkerman” no hope of staying the course and the bookies installed Leicester as one of the favourites to be relegated. They were priced at 5,000/1 to win the Premier League. With four games remaining, they stand on the edge of history. The season would make stars of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. In November, Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record by scoring in eleven consecutive Premier League games. Mahrez’s goals and assists, including magnificent solo goals against ChelseaandManchester City, made him favourite to win the PFA Footballer of the Year award. If Arsenal’s unbeaten season in 2003/04 saw their team dubbed the Invincibles, then Leicester’s exploits in 2015/16 have made them The Unbelievables. This is the story of their season as seen through the eyes of the supporters who have followed them up and down the country with an increasing sense of wonder.

How come superheroes are either kids or millionaires? Why are they never normal people. Like your mate Brian or his Grandad or Barry down the pub? Perhaps it's because saving the world is a young man's game. It's not so easy to defeat an evil genius if your minds on the fact that you are falling behind with your mortgage. You might be able to fly but you're not so bright in a fight if your back hurts. And even if your new powers take away all of your aches and pains away and restore your dwindling libido, how's that going to go down with the wife? So when five old school friends go off on a jolly boys outing and things go a bit sideways, they are left coming to terms with the people that they have become and the way that it effects their friendships and their lives. None of which is helped by the fact that there seems to be someone out there who is out to get them and the rest of the world while they are at it.

Fosse V Luffs written by Nigel Freestone and has been published by eBook Partnership this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Fosse v Luffs is a story filled with drama, excitement, controversy - and violence - about a footballing rivalry as intense as any in modern English football. The Fosse (forerunner of Leicester City) were the dominant club in the town of Leicester, and Loughborough (the Luffs) were the biggest and most successful team in the county of Leicestershire. Each encounter between these two sides was a battle for supremacy within the county. Fosse v Luffs charts the growth of the rivalry, from amateur games played in front of a handful of family and friends to Football League encounters witnessed by 10,000-plus spectators, with thousands more eagerly awaiting the outcome. Drawing on extensive newspaper research, Nigel Freestone brings to life this forgotten era when football was a bone-crunching game and not for the faint-hearted. It's a must-read for anyone interested in Leicester City FC, Victorian sport or local history.
