In this compelling narrative, veteran missionary Friday Ganda finds himself in a dilemma, whether to continue pursuing his beloved teaching career, or answer the call and save souls for Christ. At a young age, having started a magnificent teaching career, found a wonderful wife, and settled in a small town, his local church turns to him so that he might become their pastor. He flees. He ends up in another church, which takes even a shorter time to ask him to be their pastor and believe it or not, he flees again and the next church he joins asks the same. Eventually, Friday realizes that when the Lord sets you on fire for Him, you can do nothing but burn, and people will come and watch you. He realizes you cannot win against the Lord's call and therefore he pursues it. Friday's journey with the Lord takes him from rural Kenya to the deserts of Sudan, from the highlands of Ethiopia to the dusty terrains of Mali and Burkina Faso. His journeys lead him to discover that when the Lord is with you, there is nothing that can stop you. Rev. Friday Ganda served as a Pastor with the Church of the Nazarene in Kenya for four years. Served as District Superintendent for six years, and then as Mission Coordinator for the Country of Kenya for two years, and also as Jesus Film Coordinator for Africa East Field and French Field for two years. Now he is a Missionary with the Church of the Nazarene, having served in Ethiopia, and the Sudan in the Horn of Africa Field, and currently serving in Burkina Faso, West Africa Field. He currently holds a Dip Th. and a BA (Biblical Studies) degree.

Dostoevsky S Unfinished Journey written by Robin Feuer Miller and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-01-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

How does Dostoevsky’s fiction illuminate questions that are important to us today? What does the author have to say about memory and invention, the nature of evidence, and why we read? How did his readings of such writers as Rousseau, Maturin, and Dickens filter into his own novelistic consciousness? And what happens to a novel like Crime and Punishment when it is the subject of a classroom discussion or a conversation? In this original and wide-ranging book, Dostoevsky scholar Robin Feuer Miller approaches the author’s major works from a variety of angles and offers a new set of keys to understanding Dostoevsky’s world. Taking Dostoevsky’s own conversion as her point of departure, Miller explores themes of conversion and healing in his fiction, where spiritual and artistic transfigurations abound. She also addresses questions of literary influence, intertextuality, and the potency of what the author termed "ideas in the air.” For readers new to Dostoevsky’s writings as well as those deeply familiar with them, Miller offers lucid insights into his works and into their continuing power to engage readers in our own times.

Unfinished Journey: A Rabbi's Bout With Doubt represents a collection of personal observations of the diverse groups affiliated with his congregation where he served as rabbi in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The author also delves into the thorny issues of religious faith that trouble the laity, but also members of the clergy of all faiths who are reluctant to ask themselves whether they honestly believe what they publicly preach. Since his retirement from the active rabbinate, the author began to re-examine the provocative views of his mentors who taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary in his student years. Rabbis, educators and laymen looked to the intellectual "giants" for clarity and religious guidance. Two of these great teachers, Rabbis Mordecai M. Kaplan and Abraham Joshua Heschel, were both eloquent and courageous interpreters of Jewish thought although they represented sharply divergent views on questions such as the meaning of God, the efficacy of prayer, or the concept of the Chosen People. As he reviewed many of the sacred texts, the author began to question and even to doubt what he was taught to accept as irrevocable truths. In recent years, however, he has begun to define what he can comfortably believe in while still maintaining his personally integrity as a teacher of religious values and traditions. . He maintains that his "bout with doubt" has helped him find a more mature understanding of what faith can and cannot achieve for the modern generation.

We know much about Jesus’s early life and his last years. But there are twenty years for which little, if anything, is known. Did he simply spend his adolescence as a carpenter’s apprentice in Nazareth? Is that what he meant when he referred to “his Father’s work”? Or was there more to those two decades? Author Doris Broughton Heath was intrigued by those missing years. She used her insatiable curiosity and quest for knowledge and truth to open the door to Jesus’s whereabouts during those years. Heath spent the last seven years of her life working on My Brother, My Lord: A Journey with James and Jesus from the Temple to the Tomb. She brings together Jesus and his older brother, James, and sends them on a journey to spread the Word of God. They visit new and exciting cities and discover diverse cultures as Jesus performs his first miracles. Although a work of fiction, she researched the history and biblical events known to have occurred during that time to add authenticity. After Heath died in 1991, My Brother, My Lord: A Journey with James and Jesus from the Temple to the Tomb sat untouched until her daughter, Linda Stevens, found it six years later and fulfilled her promise to her mother to have it published. Now you are invited to discover Heath’s imaginings of what happened during Jesus’s missing years. And perhaps come up with your own theories.

The Second Vatican Council, which ended thirty-five years ago, promised so much: a new vision of a reformed Church aware of its social, theological and ecumenical responsibilities; a truly conciliar Church with collegial structures. However, this vision seems to have evaporated and many of the promised reforms have been truncated or have not happened at all. The Vatican remains intensely bureaucratic. Theologians are silenced and the effect of clerical scandal seems to have led Church leaders to dig in and see the deposit of faith as something static. Once again the Church believes it has a monopoly on the truth and millions of people feel marginalized and excluded. Britain's long-established Catholic weekly, The Tablet , has fought for the spirit and values of Vatican II in a way that no other journal has done. It has criticised the Church (Humanae Vitae) and has condemned corruption, but has also supported the Church where it has been right to do so.These essays come from a truly international cast of contributors who cover the Church of Vatican II but above all give us prophesy of where this vision may still lead the Church and the people of God. This is a Church semper reformanda.

When Everything Changed written by Gail Collins and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-10-14 with History categories.

Gail Collins, New York Times columnist and bestselling author, recounts the astounding revolution in women's lives over the past 50 years, with her usual "sly wit and unfussy style" (People). When Everything Changed begins in 1960, when most American women had to get their husbands' permission to apply for a credit card. It ends in 2008 with Hillary Clinton's historic presidential campaign. This was a time of cataclysmic change, when, after four hundred years, expectations about the lives of American women were smashed in just a generation. A comprehensive mix of oral history and Gail Collins's keen research -- covering politics, fashion, popular culture, economics, sex, families, and work -- When Everything Changed is the definitive book on five crucial decades of progress. The enormous strides made since 1960 include the advent of the birth control pill, the end of "Help Wanted -- Male" and "Help Wanted -- Female" ads, and the lifting of quotas for women in admission to medical and law schools. Gail Collins describes what has happened in every realm of women's lives, partly through the testimonies of both those who made history and those who simply made their way. Picking up where her highly lauded book America's Women left off, When Everything Changed is a dynamic story, told with the down-to-earth, amusing, and agenda-free tone for which this beloved New York Times columnist is known. Older readers, men and women alike, will be startled as they are reminded of what their lives once were -- Father Knows Best and My Little Margie on TV; daily weigh-ins for stewardesses; few female professors; no women in the Boston marathon, in combat zones, or in the police department. Younger readers will see their history in a rich new way. It has been an era packed with drama and dreams -- some dashed and others realized beyond anyone's imagining.
