The third book in the wartime series continuing from Tuesday’s War and Charlie’s War. The war’s over. Charlie Bassett is one of England’s brave young survivors. Haunted by one woman’s smile and by his wartime adventures, he finally returns back home to try to pick up the pieces of his broken life. There’s just one small problem – everyone thinks he’s dead. Arrested as a deserter, his only way out of prison is to work for a shadowy government agency monitoring the growth of Communism in post-war Europe. Special radio missions keep him busy in the air, while his all-female team, headed up by the icy Miss Miller, keeps his feet firmly on the ground. But then Charlie is forced to go undercover as a spy in a Communist group called the Rubble Rats. The government calls them the Red Menace, but Charlie finds a group of hard-working families just trying to get by – and his loyalties are torn. When he discovers that Grace Baker is one of them, Charlie must make some difficult decisions. For king and country? Or for the woman he once loved?

This book recountsthe horror of World War II on the eastern front, as seen through the eyes of a teenaged German soldier. At first an exciting adventure, young Guy Sajer's war becomes, as the German invasion falters in the icy vastness of the Ukraine, a simple, desperate struggle for survival against cold, hunger, and above all the terrifying Soviet artillery. As a member of the elite Gross Deutschland Division, he fought in all the great battles from Kursk to Kharkov. His German footsoldier's perspective makes The Forgotten Soldier a unique war memoir, the book that the Christian Science Monitor said "may well be the book about World War II which has been so long awaited." Now it has been handsomely republished as a hardcover containing fifty rare German combat photos of life and death at the eastern front. The photos of troops battling through snow, mud, burned villages, and rubble-strewn cities depict the hardships and destructiveness of war. Many are originally from the private collections of German soldiers and have never been published before. This volume is a deluxe edition of a true classic.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL! How quickly we forget our heroes... those who daily risk their lives for our freedom. It is difficult to imagine the anguish, the determination and yes even the fear, in the heart of a man driven by enemy fire into a fox hole. How do you capture in words the feelings and thoughts of soldiers under attack by the enemy? William A. Cummins met that challenge with this remarkable book, "THE FORGOTTEN" as he unveils a series of stories by Korean War Veterans depicting their combat experiences in their very own words. Battlefield experiences from a war that must never be forgotten. You will follow a 19 year old PFC Marine from his sharecropping youth in Ohio to a brutal battlefield ambush in Korea and finally to a pulpit in Florida. Dozens of stories and photographs of our unsung heroes provide a written witness to the nearly three million people who perished during that horrific war. Each veteran expresses a small fragment of himself during the war for his children and grandchildren to read in a book.

Today’s world owes an enormous debt of gratitude to the many millions who died for our freedom during the First World War, and it is important that we never forget the horrific violence and tragic loss of life suffered in those years. Unforgotten is a poignant and sometimes humorous collection of World War One poems and short stories told from many different viewpoints. As descendants of those fresh-faced soldiers, who perished so we may live our relatively comfortable lives, we owe it to each and every one of them to speak their names and tell their stories.

This is my story - my life from the horrors of war and slaughter to the travails of change and atonement. For much of my life I lived in fear that my past would catch up to me. I hid my beliefs and prejudices and walked among the gentle, unsuspecting people of a small American town. I am, or was, an embodiment of madness, atrocity, cruelty and horror. I had to remind myself how to behave, react and interact with those around me. I could not pick my friends, neighbors or the people I would like to associate with. I could not express my desires and thoughts. I could not do what I wanted to do. I was locked inside a mad world without the ability to make any contribution, as I used to do - during the war and before it. Friends and neighbors? I shunned them. Social groups and religious organizations? I shunned them as well. Often I thought it better to turn myself in or die one way or another - just to get everything over with. That changed one day - a miraculous day when a young child came into my life and helped me back into life, reappraisal, and a quest for atonement. That young child was Jewish. And I am a former SS officer.

Unforgotten In The Gulf Of Tonkin written by Eileen A. Bjorkman and has been published by Potomac Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-01 with History categories.

On November 18, 1965, U.S. Navy pilot Willie Sharp ejected from his F-8 fighter after being hit while positioned over a target in North Vietnam. With a cloud layer beneath him, he did not know if he was over land—where he would most certainly be captured or killed by the North Vietnamese—or over the Gulf of Tonkin. As he ejected, both navy and air force aircraft were already heading toward him to help. What followed was a dramatic rescue made by pilots and other airmen with little or no training or experience in combat search-and-rescue. Told by former military flight test engineer Eileen A. Bjorkman, this story includes nail-biting descriptions of air combat, flight, and rescue. Bjorkman places Sharp’s story in the larger context of the U.S. military’s bedrock credo—No Man Left Behind—and calls attention to the more than eighty thousand Americans still missing from conflicts since World War I. She also explores the devastating aftershocks of the Vietnam War as Sharp struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder. Woven into this gripping tale is the fascinating history of combat search-and-rescue missions that officially began in World War II. Combining the cockiness and camaraderie of Top Gun with the heroics of Sully, Unforgotten in the Gulf of Tonkin is a riveting tale of combat rescue and an unforgettable story about the U.S. military’s commitment to leave no man behind.
