The Problem of the Unknown Component: Theory and Applications addresses the issue of designing a component that, combined with a known part of a system, conforms to an overall specification. The authors tackle this problem by solving abstract equations over a language. The most general solutions are studied when both synchronous and parallel composition operators are used. The abstract equations are specialized to languages associated with important classes of automata used for modeling systems. The book is a blend of theory and practice, which includes a description of a software package with applications to sequential synthesis of finite state machines. Specific topologies interconnecting the components, exact and heuristic techniques, and optimization scenarios are studied. Finally the scope is enlarged to domains like testing, supervisory control, game theory and synthesis for special omega languages. The authors present original results of the authors along with an overview of existing ones.

Programs like philosophy for children, reciprocal teaching, problem based learning and computerized games can help students’ critical and creative thinking skills, but which are most effective? This research-to-practice book showcases how you can improve the thinking (cognition) of your students, across the curriculum and beyond. Each chapter focuses on a particular program, describes the method and background research, offers examples and explains key processes in implementation. You'll learn about thinking programs within a subject, across the curriculum, outside the curriculum and those which can be either within or outside the curriculum, so you can choose a program which suits your context. You’ll also find out what to consider when evaluating a thinking skills program. And finally, you’ll discover shared features of the methods – such as peer interaction, discourse, argumentation, scaffolding and transfer – so you can see the commonalities of the programs and think about designing your own approaches. Whether you’re a classroom teacher, department head, or other key stakeholder, this powerful resource will help you determine what really works for teaching thinking, so your students can apply such skills and thrive long after they’ve left school. Note: This book is part of a set; a companion book focuses on programs for teaching metacognition, or thinking about thinking.

Advanced Mechanics Of Materials And Applied Elasticity written by Anthony E. Armenàkas and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-08-19 with Science categories.

This book presents both differential equation and integral formulations of boundary value problems for computing the stress and displacement fields of solid bodies at two levels of approximation - isotropic linear theory of elasticity as well as theories of mechanics of materials. Moreover, the book applies these formulations to practical solutions in detailed, easy-to-follow examples. Advanced Mechanics of Materials and Applied Elasticity presents modern and classical methods of analysis in current notation and in the context of current practices. The author's well-balanced choice of topics, clear and direct presentation, and emphasis on the integration of sophisticated mathematics with practical examples offer students in civil, mechanical, and aerospace engineering an unparalleled guide and reference for courses in advanced mechanics of materials, stress analysis, elasticity, and energy methods in structural analysis.

Schemas In Problem Solving written by Sandra P. Marshall and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-06-30 with Education categories.

Schemas in Problem Solving introduces a new approach to the study of learning, instruction, and assessment. Focusing on the area of arithmetic story problems, Marshall shows how instruction can lead to more meaningful learning by emphasizing the ways students acquire and store knowledge in memory. She identifies major knowledge structures called schemas, describes instruction designed around theses structures, and assesses the strengths and weaknesses in the knowledge that the students demonstrate following instruction. To evaluate the success of her approach, Marshall describes traditional experiments and computer simulations of student performance.

Numerical Methods For Inverse Scattering Problems written by Jingzhi Li and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-07 with Science categories.

This book highlights the latest developments on the numerical methods for inverse scattering problems associated with acoustic, electromagnetic, and elastic waves. Inverse scattering problems are concerned with identifying unknown or inaccessible objects by wave probing data, which makes possible many industrial and engineering applications including radar and sonar, medical imaging, nondestructive testing, remote sensing, and geophysical exploration. The mathematical study of inverse scattering problems is an active field of research. This book presents a comprehensive and unified mathematical treatment of various inverse scattering problems mainly from a numerical reconstruction perspective. It highlights the collaborative research outputs by the two groups of the authors yet surveys and reviews many existing results by global researchers in the literature. The book consists of three parts respectively corresponding to the studies on acoustic, electromagnetic, and elastic scattering problems. In each part, the authors start with in-depth theoretical and computational treatments of the forward scattering problems and then discuss various numerical reconstruction schemes for the associated inverse scattering problems in different scenarios of practical interest. In addition, the authors provide an overview of the existing results in the literature by other researchers. This book can serve as a handy reference for researchers or practitioners who are working on or implementing inverse scattering methods. It can also serve as a graduate textbook for research students who are interested in working on numerical algorithms for inverse scattering problems.

The Uncertainty Of Measurements written by Shri Krishna Kimothi and has been published by Quality Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-11-01 with Business & Economics categories.

The uncertainty of measurement results is drawing attention of managers, metrologists and customers. The accuracy of measurements affects all of us in trade, commerce, safety, health care environmental protection and more. The quality of these measurements are regulated by a variety of government agencies. Measurement also plays an important role in manufacturing and service organizations. Use this book to learn more about metrology and the need for reliable measurements. You can also learn about measurement system and quality of measurement systems, objectives and methods. Statistical techniques in metrology are also explained. Examples of measurement data and random variables, probability density functions, sampling distribution, statistical estimation degrees of freedom and regression are included. An entire chapter is devoted to measurement errors. The book goes in-depth into explaining national and international measurement systems and standards, and includes a complete chapter on calibration and measurement trace ability. Measurement Uncertainty will show how to evaluate various uncertainties in measurements using several approaches including international consensus. Calibration laboratories can look specifically at the chapter on that profession to guide them in their measurement improvements. Kimothi also looks at specific industries and their measurement capabilities and includes examples of R&R studies. A great resource for the CQE, CQT, CCT, CSSBB certification exams!

Parabolic Boundary Value Problems written by Samuil D. Eidelman and has been published by Birkhäuser this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.

The present monograph is devoted to the theory of general parabolic boundary value problems. The vastness of this theory forced us to take difficult decisions in selecting the results to be presented and in determining the degree of detail needed to describe their proofs. In the first chapter we define the basic notions at the origin of the theory of parabolic boundary value problems and give various examples of illustrative and descriptive character. The main part of the monograph (Chapters II to V) is devoted to a the detailed and systematic exposition of the L -theory of parabolic 2 boundary value problems with smooth coefficients in Hilbert spaces of smooth functions and distributions of arbitrary finite order and with some natural appli cations of the theory. Wishing to make the monograph more informative, we included in Chapter VI a survey of results in the theory of the Cauchy problem and boundary value problems in the traditional spaces of smooth functions. We give no proofs; rather, we attempt to compare different results and techniques. Special attention is paid to a detailed analysis of examples illustrating and complementing the results for mulated. The chapter is written in such a way that the reader interested only in the results of the classical theory of the Cauchy problem and boundary value problems may concentrate on it alone, skipping the previous chapters.
