"The Untangling of Knots" is a love story set against the decisive Battle of Bannockburn between the Scots and the English, following protagonist Gwendolyn Lawry's voyage from childhood to womanhood. This story is an exploration of identity; how we see ourselves, how others see us, how we relate to the natural world, and to the world of people.

In Buffy Aakaash's Untangling the Knots, we learn such essential skills as "How to Start a Fire," "How to Undress," and even "How to Pet a Cat." But we are given surprise after surprise, as we discover vivid metaphors for deeper life lessons. Even though the title promises untangling, the "necessary fettered entanglement" of love, desire and authentic living is what this collection celebrates. And it does so with heart, honesty, and imagination, the stuff of life and poetry. Even as he wears "the grief of [his] own unravelling" in these lovely poems, Aakaash finds "boisterous joy" and "true freedom" in ordinary moments and he invites the reader to do the same. This is a lovingly-crafted, hopeful collection of poems that can act as a balm for our troubled times. -Maxima Kahn, author of Fierce Aria, teacher, and firekeeper Here we are asked to "enter the entanglement" as Aakaash lays bare a poet's motivating purpose through a series of 'How To' poems that process and warn, as well as celebrate and rejoice, sometimes with a cat to pet, or a puppy to walk, or a goat to milk. These poems live life to the fullest; they "behold beauty / and follow the call..." With lyrical language and juxtapositions dripping with alliteration and rhythm, Untangling the Knots is a winning achievement in chapbook form. To read it is to enter a sacredness-an entanglement of love and grief, life and wonder, regrets and hope-where you will "make your own retreat / through quick forays into / forbidden places." -Samantha Kolber, author of Birth of a Daughter Untangling the Knots is a uniquely potent collection of sagacity that weaves ostensibly mundane pursuits into elegant tapestries of instruction that congeal and calm the complexities of being human in our natural world. With silky precision, the poems reach softly into our hearts and ask us to look deeply and with sanctified intention into the raw ingredients of our losses. Then, like the evening sun descending across a southwest mesa, the slipknot is gently pulled, and the golden moment is upon us. The finished product leaves a tantalizing taste in our mouths and a satiated feeling in our spirit. -Standing Feather, author of A Glowing Pink

Untangling the Knot: Marriage, Relationships & Identity, an anthology of essays and creative nonfiction, delves past the mainstream focus on marriage equality--beyond the knot-- to examine the broad scope of issues facing members of the LGBTQ community. The collection sheds light on what marriage equality actually means for queer communities. By confronting the concept of tradition through personal discourse, this volume seeks to create conversation amongst the diverse members of the LGBTQ community and their straight allies to prompt a larger, grander, and more realistic vision of what marriage equality really means for those living in the United States. Untangling the Knot: Marriage, Relationships & Identity includes the voices of many individuals who are underrepresented in the modern discourse surrounding LGBTQ rights, and these unique perspectives may change the direction of that conversation for good.

Selected contributions to the Workshop WAFR 2002, held December 15-17, 2002, Nice, France. This fifth biannual Workshop on Algorithmic Foundations of Robotics focuses on algorithmic issues related to robotics and automation. The design and analysis of robot algorithms raises fundamental questions in computer science, computational geometry, mechanical modeling, operations research, control theory, and associated fields. The highly selective program highlights significant new results such as algorithmic models and complexity bounds. The validation of algorithms, design concepts, or techniques is the common thread running through this focused collection.

This book presents the outcomes of the 12th International Workshop on the Algorithmic Foundations of Robotics (WAFR 2016). WAFR is a prestigious, single-track, biennial international meeting devoted to recent advances in algorithmic problems in robotics. Robot algorithms are an important building block of robotic systems and are used to process inputs from users and sensors, perceive and build models of the environment, plan low-level motions and high-level tasks, control robotic actuators, and coordinate actions across multiple systems. However, developing and analyzing these algorithms raises complex challenges, both theoretical and practical. Advances in the algorithmic foundations of robotics have applications to manufacturing, medicine, distributed robotics, human–robot interaction, intelligent prosthetics, computer animation, computational biology, and many other areas. The 2016 edition of WAFR went back to its roots and was held in San Francisco, California – the city where the very first WAFR was held in 1994. Organized by Pieter Abbeel, Kostas Bekris, Ken Goldberg, and Lauren Miller, WAFR 2016 featured keynote talks by John Canny on “A Guided Tour of Computer Vision, Robotics, Algebra, and HCI,” Erik Demaine on “Replicators, Transformers, and Robot Swarms: Science Fiction through Geometric Algorithms,” Dan Halperin on “From Piano Movers to Piano Printers: Computing and Using Minkowski Sums,” and by Lydia Kavraki on “20 Years of Sampling Robot Motion.” Furthermore, it included an Open Problems Session organized by Ron Alterovitz, Florian Pokorny, and Jur van den Berg. There were 58 paper presentations during the three-day event. The organizers would like to thank the authors for their work and contributions, the reviewers for ensuring the high quality of the meeting, the WAFR Steering Committee led by Nancy Amato as well as WAFR’s fiscal sponsor, the International Federation of Robotics Research (IFRR), led by Oussama Khatib and Henrik Christensen. WAFR 2016 was an enjoyable and memorable event.

Untangle your deepest issues, knot by knot. Despite some of our greatest efforts and our belief in Jesus’ work on the cross, many of us are still crippled and imprisoned by our sin. We know we aren’t supposed to be held captive, but the Gospel doesn’t seem to be “working” for us. How do we really, truly change? The kind of change that transforms not just our behavior, but our hearts, our minds, and our entire lives? How do we experience freedom from sin and shame? The truth is, untangling the knots of your core issues takes time and cultivation. In Knot by Knot, author and pastor Davis Moore takes a deep look at Jesus’ promise of change and how the Gospel—its power and its cost—is the key to unraveling these issues. Moore has witnessed profound transformation in both his own life and the lives of many others. He helps Christians crippled by shame achieve lifelong victory over their most persistent sins through: - Surrendering their old identity - Understanding the process of growth - Embracing the Gospel in practical ways - Pursuing vulnerability with other Christians - Following Jesus into deeper joy - Discovering the deep peace of a clear conscience We aren’t meant to carry our guilt, secrets, and shame to the grave. Jesus promises to complete the work He’s creating in us—moment by moment, day by day, knot by knot—and to give us a profound and lasting peace.
