This thesis sheds light on the implications of the US - China tariff Trade War. First, this thesis establishes an overview of the trade behavior of the United States and its relevant partners. After a time series decomposition, in which a clear downward trend can be seen beginning at the start of the trade war, is carried out, a causal relationship between the reduction of trade between the nation and the imposition of tariffs is established. The impact of the three tariff lists of either nation is scrutinized, and key insights presented. Using a SARIMA model, a scenario analysis is conducted in which the trade in absence of a trade dispute is compared to the actual trade. This allows an approximation of the loss of trade between the nation. The total cost of the trade war to the United States is estimated combining the loss of trade, the increased cost to the consumers through tariffs as well the cost of emergency subsidies as a consequence of the retaliatory tariffs which results in a total of 141 billion USD since the beginning of 2018. Expecting a 10% deviation, this loss is the same as the total exports to China from the US in 2017.
