This book is designed to expand a student's music study experience by learning about the parts of the viola and how it works, how to Care for it, how it is made, its history, useful accessories, and how to plan practice sessions. With this knowledge, one will have greater insight into the viola's relationship to other instruments in its family, resulting in a well-rounded musician instead of one who can just play an instrument.

Until comparatively recent times very little had been written for the viola as a solo instrument. Our contemporary composers have done a great deal to remedy this situation. Bax, Beresowsky, Bliss, Bloch, Delius, Hindemith, Honegger, Milhaud, Vaughan Williams, Walton and many others have contributed important sonatas, suites and concertos for the viola. Many new works are constantly being added. This new literature has placed new demands upon the violist, who in the past found a place only as an orchestra or chamber music player. Higher standards of technical perfection are required. It therefore occurred to me that the “Scalesystem” published by the eminent pedagogue and violinist Carl Flesch, regarded as a standard work by violinists the world over, would be equally valuable to violists if translated into their medium. I have undertaken this task with the encouragement of Professor Carl Flesch. The publishers and I hope that it will be found useful by performers and teachers of the viola. I know this method works because I've helped hundreds of students who now love playing the viola, have fun learning new music, and enjoy playing solo, in small groups, or in larger ensembles like youth and community orchestras. To make this learning process effective, it's important to follow a specific order. First, you need to grasp some musical concepts and the mechanics of the viola so you can understand how everything works. If you skip this essential step, you might feel overwhelmed and frustrated when trying to learn more complex techniques like shifting and playing with flats and sharps, and you could even give up. I've seen this happen many times. This foundational knowledge is crucial for learning to play the viola well and quickly. Each of the three Learn Viola Fast books contains detailed explanations, key highlights, visual diagrams, and quizzes to test your understanding. Images of specific steps and techniques visually demonstrate how to perform various tasks. When you understand the how and why behind each action, your body, hands, and fingers will more easily adapt to new and unfamiliar movements. Here's a summary of what you'll learn in each book: Book 1 - Basics: You'll learn how music and the viola work, how to play simple songs, and how to understand music notation. The Viola Da Gamba written by Bettina Hoffmann and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-19 with Music categories.

The viola da gamba was a central instrument in European music from the late 15th century well into the late 18th. In this comprehensive study, Bettina Hoffmann offers both an introduction to the instrument -- its construction, technique and history -- for the non-specialist, interweaving this information with a wealth of original archival scholarship that experts will relish. The book begins with a description of the instrument, and here Hoffmann grapples with the complexity of various names applied to this and related instruments. Following two chapters on the instrument's construction and ancestry, the core of the book is given to a historical and geographical survey of the instrument from its origins into the classical period. The book closes with a look at the revival of interest in the 19th and 20th centuries.
