"Storage Networks Explained has much to recommend it.... ararity in the literature of digital data storage – a completeexposition of both the base subject matter and its applications, which at the same time offers a level of readability making itsuitable as an introduction to the subject. Storage NetworksExplained is also flexible. It can be read cover-to-cover,browsed, or used as a reference. I recommend Storage NetworksExplained as an essential component of any active informationtechnology library." —Paul Massiglia, Technical Director, VERITASSoftware Corporation Storage networks will become a basic technology likedatabases or local area networks. According to market research, 70%of external storage devices will be connected via storage networksin 2003. The authors have hands-on experience of network storagehardware and software, they teach customers about concrete networkstorage products, they understand the concepts behind storagenetworks, and show customers how storage networks address theirbusiness needs. Storage networks provide shared access to stored data frommultiple computers and servers, thus increasing storageefficiency and availability. They permit informationmanagement functions such as backup and recovery, data mirroring, disaster recovery, and data migration to be performed quickly andefficiently, with a minimum of system overhead. This book explains how to use storage networks to fixmalfunctioning business processes, covering the technologies aswell as applications. A hot topic that will become increasinglyimportant in the coming years. One of the first books to focus on using rather than buildingstorage networks, and how to solve problems. Looking beyond technology and showing the true benefits ofstorage networks. Covers fibre channel SAN, Network Attached Storage, iSCSI andInfiniBand technologies. Contains several case studies (e.g. the example of a travelportal, protecting a critical database) Endorsed by the Storage Networking Industry Association. Written by very experienced professionals who tailored the bookspecifically to meet customer needs including support withsupplementry material on Troppens website and Preface written byTony Clark. Provides basic application information key for systemsadministrators, database administrators and managers who need toknow about the networking aspects of their systems. As well assystems architects, network managers, information managementdirectors and decision makers. This book also supports applications for graduate students andother relevant courses in the field. This sweeping introduction to the science of virtual environment technology masterfully integrates research and practical applications culled from a range of disciplines, including psychology, engineering, and computer science. With contributions from the field's foremost researchers and theorists, the book focuses in particular on how virtual technology and interface design can better accommodate human cognitive, motor, and perceptual capabilities. Throughout, it brings the reader up-to-date with the latest design strategies and cutting-edge virtual environments, and points to promising avenues for future development. The book is divided into three parts. The first part introduces the reader to the subject by defining basic terms, identifying key components of the virtual environment, and reviewing the origins and elements of virtual environments. The second part focuses of current technologies used to present visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic information. The book concludes with an in-depth analysis of how environments and human perception are integrated to create effective virtual systems. Comprehensive and splendidly written, Virtual Environments and Advanced Interface Design will be the "bible" on the subject for years to come. Students and researchers in computer science, psychology, and cognitive science will all want to have a copy on their shelves.

Network Algorithmics: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Designing Fast Networked Devices, Second Edition takes an interdisciplinary approach to applying principles for efficient implementation of network devices, offering solutions to the problem of network implementation bottlenecks. In designing a network device, there are dozens of decisions that affect the speed with which it will perform – sometimes for better, but sometimes for worse. The book provides a complete and coherent methodology for maximizing speed while meeting network design goals. The book is uniquely focused on the seamless integration of data structures, algorithms, operating systems and hardware/software co-designs for high-performance routers/switches and network end systems. Thoroughly updated based on courses taught by the authors over the past decade, the book lays out the bottlenecks most often encountered at four disparate levels of implementation: protocol, OS, hardware and architecture. It then develops fifteen principles key to breaking these bottlenecks, systematically applying them to bottlenecks found in end-nodes, interconnect devices and specialty functions located along the network. Later sections discuss the inherent challenges of modern cloud computing and data center networking. - Offers techniques that address common bottlenecks of interconnect devices, including routers, bridges, gateways, endnodes, and Web servers - Presents many practical algorithmic concepts that students and readers can work with immediately - Revised and updated throughout to discuss the latest developments from authors' courses, including measurement algorithmics, randomization, regular expression matching, and software-defined networking - Includes a new, rich set of homework exercises and exam questions to facilitate classroom use

Sci Scalable Coherent Interface written by Hermann Hellwagner and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-12-29 with Computers categories.
Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) is an innovative interconnect standard (ANSI/IEEE Std 1596-1992) addressing the high-performance computing and networking domain. This book describes in depth one specific application of SCI: its use as a high-speed interconnection network (often called a system area network, SAN) for compute clusters built from commodity workstation nodes. The editors and authors, coming from both academia and industry, have been instrumental in the SCI standardization process, the development and deployment of SCI adapter cards, switches, fully integrated clusters, and software systems, and are closely involved in various research projects on this important interconnect. This thoroughly cross-reviewed state-of-the-art survey covers the complete hardware/software spectrum of SCI clusters, from the major concepts of SCI, through SCI hardware, networking, and low-level software issues, various programming models and environments, up to tools and application experiences.

Issues In Designing And Implementing A Scalable Virtual Interface Architecture written by Shailabh Nagar and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Cluster analysis categories.
Abstract: "Together with the emergence of high bandwidth System Area Networks, User-level Networking (ULN) offers a low latency solution to enable the adoption of high performance clusters in environments that have traditionally demanded custom-built supercomputers. By standardizing the ULN interface exported to the application, the Virtual Interface Architecture (VIA) can accelerate the deployment of such clusters. VIA can also serve as the underlying platform to develop conventional protocol stacks for LAN/WAN communication. While there have been several previous efforts at optimizing the latency and throughput of ULN, including VIA, there has not been any prior indepth investigation into the scalability issue. Scalability is an important consideration as multiprogramming levels continue to grow, and application environments keep one or more communication channels open to avoid setup/tear-down costs. The performance on a channel should not degrade significantly with the increasing number of channels that are created and used. This paper addresses this crucial issue, examining and proposing different hardware and software options at the network interface, host software and firmware on the network interface, to study their impact on the scalability of VIA. The different design alternatives are investigated indepth using a detailed simulation model to draw revealing insights from the scalability perspective."
