In "The Void Of Nothingness," the third in a trilogy about journeys, the author asks himself: What am I doing here -- and who is asking in the first place? Looking back on all these inner journeys reveals that he has not arrived anywhere. But that is no surprise. Woe to the one that arrives at his destination. Our universal search for meaning usually shepherds us to religion, but often vaults us on to unforeseen philosophies. The author was born of a Catholic mother and a Jewish father, confirmed a Lutheran, attended Presbyterian Sunday school, and indoctrinated at a fundamentalist Christian summer camp. He held the highest lay position in his church for years, and conducted the service when the pastor was absent. He married both a Catholic and a Jew - not at the same time! He wasn't too concerned about the afterlife either; like all young people, he was immortal. Today, near the end of his life, he is an atheist with an agnostic insurance policy.

These are some of my favorite pieces that I've written. It's been a wild ride from the end of high school and throughout college. I couldn't figure out how to express it to others so I told myself what I was feeling and this was born. It's for you, to know that you're heard and loved. Just hold on a bit longer, I know you can.

I was given an opportunity to return to Earth to complete my unfinished business from God. While I was visiting heaven, I had re-signed a contract with God, promising that I would write a book about my experience. I always fulfill what I promise; I believe it is a beautiful thing to do. I have written about my experience in this book, RetrospectiveFrom the Void of Emptiness to Planet Earth. I have explored what it is like living as a spirit in nothingness before we set foot on Earth. In my opinion, our true nature is an infinite being temporarily accommodated in a physical body that we animate on Earth. This is part of the spiritual journey we must take. I have explained how a person should take care of himself, because no one else can provide such personal responsibility for another individual. Therefore, you should love yourself and believe you are significant. Celebrate your life at every moment. In addition, in discussing an issue regarding my health, I realized that the most valuable thing in life is to have superb health. That is how I ended up in heaven but was given a second chance to return to Earth to finish what I wanted to complete.

The New York Times bestselling author of The Physics of Wall Street “deftly explains all you wanted to know about nothingness—a.k.a. the quantum vacuum” (Priyamvada Natarajan, author of Mapping the Heavens). James Owen Weatherall’s bestselling book, The Physics of Wall Street, was named one of Physics Today’s five most intriguing books of 2013. In this work, he takes on a fundamental concept of modern physics: nothing. The physics of stuff—protons, neutrons, electrons, and even quarks and gluons—is at least somewhat familiar to most of us. But what about the physics of nothing? Isaac Newton thought of empty space as nothingness extended in all directions, a kind of theater in which physics could unfold. But both quantum theory and relativity tell us that Newton’s picture can’t be right. Nothing, it turns out, is an awful lot like something, with a structure and properties every bit as complex and mysterious as matter. In his signature lively prose, Weatherall explores the very nature of empty space—and solidifies his reputation as a science writer to watch. Included on the 2017 Best Book List by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) “An engaging and interesting account.”—The Economist “Readers get a dose of biography while following such figures as Einstein, Dirac, and Newton to see how top theories about the void have been discovered, developed, and debunked. Weatherall’s clear language and skillful organization adroitly combines history and physics to show readers just how much ‘nothing really matters.’”—Publishers Weekly

About the fifth century BC, three civilizations independently and simultaneously began to philosophize about nothing: China (chapter 3), India (chapters 4 and 5), and Greece (chapters 6-10). They had previously focused on what is the case. Light poured on nature, architecture, and society. But then, in a cross-civilizational black-out, emerged disparate nay-sayers who shifted attention to what is not the case. Behold, the holes in a sponge are absences of sponge! Holes are what make the sponge useful for absorbing liquid. The sponge can exist without the holes. But the holes cannot "exist" without the sponge. They are parasites that depend on their host. Yet the two get along well. Without holes, there would not be so many sponges in your house. Your shadow is a more complex parasite. It is a hole you bore into the light. Your shadow depends on both you and the light. You and light are rather mysterious. Your shadow partakes of both mysteries. .

A variety of crucial and still most relevant ideas about nothingness or emptiness have gained profound philosophical prominence in the history and development of a number of South and East Asian traditions—including in Buddhism, Daoism, Neo-Confucianism, Hinduism, Korean philosophy, and the Japanese Kyoto School. These traditions share the insight that in order to explain both the great mysteries and mundane facts about our experience, ideas of "nothingness" must play a primary role. This collection of essays brings together the work of twenty of the world’s prominent scholars of Hindu, Buddhist, Daoist, Neo-Confucian, Japanese and Korean thought to illuminate fascinating philosophical conceptualizations of "nothingness" in both classical and modern Asian traditions. The unique collection offers new work from accomplished scholars and provides a coherent, panoramic view of the most significant ways that "nothingness" plays crucial roles in Asian philosophy. It includes both traditional and contemporary formulations, sometimes putting Asian traditions into dialogue with one another and sometimes with classical and modern Western thought. The result is a book of immense value for students and researchers in Asian and comparative philosophy. How could an ignorant, insane, inane, incapable creature talk about spiritual, immaterial, nonphysical sign that requires highly rational, intellectual, celestial, transcendental energy, which prerequisites delicate extramentality impressions beyond mundane entity? We have killed humanity in the name of humanity, it is to the end of its last breath, and it is useless to attempt to save it. The question in debate is much more serious, complicated, and also obvious than we have realized. It is not just the question of who, or what we are, but how we have come into this world, and how we have lived without given it real earnest thought. How do we present, draw, or paint a colorless, weightless, countless, faceless, and faultless space? There are always emptiness, void, cavity, darkness, ignorance in the air, clear sky craving for life, and crying for help. Space the only unique element, is everywhere, covering everything indiscriminately offering freedom, and democracy only to enslave all for its purpose to show its true face, feature, and fable. The exact example of perfect nothingness is where, nothing can be found, nor a being exits, but in form of ignorance within emptiness of self. Everything is continuation of nothingness extended everywhere forever, it is the beginning, and the end of all things considered. If intelligence does not learn what nothingness is, it never reaches to other end to see somethingness.

How do you begin to understand the concept of nothing? Where does it begin and where does it end? From the zeros of the mathematician to the void of the philosophers, from Shakespeare to the empty set, from the ether to the quantum vacuum, from being and nothingness to creatio ex nihilo, there is much ado about nothing at the heart of things. Recent exciting discoveries in astronomy are shown to shed new light on the nature of the vacuum and its dramatic effect upon the explanation of the Universe. This remarkable book ranges over every nook and cranny of nothingness to reveal how the human mind has had to make something of nothing in every field of human enquiry.
