Laura Bloux is just about keeping her head above water. She and her two little girls might not have much in the material world, but they share a secret: all three are walkers-spirit-walkers, able to slip the bonds of their physical bodies at will. Then Magnus enters their lives, and everything changes. For Magnus, too, is a walker-and a body-swapper, an adrenaline junkie, and more besides. As Laura's life spirals out of control, she splits up her girls and sends them to safety in separate countries with a stark warning: Terrible things will happen to you if you ever walk again. Never, ever walk again.. Twenty years later Cora, the youngest of Laura's daughters, is still holding fast to that instruction. Haunted by the memory of her mother's lover-flash of silver, silver and black-she stays resolutely hidden inside her body, denying her own self in an attempt to appear normal. But when her eight-year-old daughter, Grace, is involved in a hit-and-run, Cora is forced, just once, to walk again. Once is enough. A flare goes out to those that have been waiting: Cora has been found! Suddenly Cora's life is anything but normal, as a parade of new characters enters her life: a teenage au pair; the enigmatic songwriter, Charlie Tam; a rock band; and her estranged older sister, Magda, who might not have paid enough attention to their mother's instructions all those years ago... As the pressure mounts Cora realises that her enemies can get to her any time, any place and in any body. Because when a body can't be swapped, it can always be stolen. The race is on for Cora to work out who to trust, who to fear-and who she really is. To see the world as it really is, sometimes you have to close your eyes and ... walk. If you like your urban fantasy engaging, contemporary and with literary flair, The Walker's Daughter is for you. Janet Allison Brown saturates her contemporary paranormal novel with all too human truths.

Does it really matter where you come from? In 1953, a war widow’s difficult mother dies before revealing the identity of her daughter’s father and his cultural heritage. As Dee sorts through what little her mother left, she unearths puzzling clues that raise more questions: Why did Leora send money every month to the Basque Relief Agency? Why is her own daughter so secretive about her soon-to-be published book? And what does an Anglican priest know that he isn’t telling? All of this head-spinning mystery breaks a long, dry period in Dee’s life and leads her to embark on an odyssey. She might just as well lose her job and see where the counsel of her new spiritual advisor and the attentions of an enigmatic ex-coworker lead her. The Sheep Walker’s Daughter pairs a colorful Basque immigrant history of loss, survival, and tough choices with one woman’s search for identity and fulfillment. Dee’s journey will take her through the Northern and Central California valleys of the 1950s and reach across the world to the Basque Country. Along the way, she will discover who she is and why family history matters.

From the international bestselling author of Black, White, and Jewish comes a "wonderfully insightful" (Associated Press) book that's destined to become a motherhood classic. Now in trade. Like many women her age, thirty-four-year-old Rebecca Walker was brought up to be skeptical of motherhood. As an adult she longed for a baby but feared losing her independence. In this very smart memoir, Walker explores some of the larger sociological trends of her generation while delivering her own story about the emotional and intellectual transformation that led her to motherhood.

HOW DID THIS BOOK COME ABOUT? About ten years ago I sustained a series of downward turns during which I lost everything I considered vital to my existence. In the end, I came to realize, what Id really lost was me. So I began to write daily journals to help myself heal. Early in my recovery, I had a dream about two celestial creatures, Beast and Priest, who decided to play The Game to decide which of them would control all mens souls, including my own. Never did I imagine those first few sentences I wrote in my journal the morning after my dream would result in a two volume book which documented the journey of a tortured soul named Kat Walker into the Great Abyss and beyond. When his courage proved to all his heart was pure again, he got one last chance at life. Kat Walker and I completed this book together to prove to all who enter its pages there is always hope if you believe in the power of love and that miracles are real.

This biography explores Alice Walker's life experiences and her lifework in context of her philosophical thought, and celebrates the author's creative genius and heroism. Born in Eatonton, GA, in 1944, a daughter of sharecroppers, Alice Walker has lived a remarkable and courageous life, and she continues to do so as an elder. Taking inspiration from her great-great-great-great grandmother who lived enslaved in the American South and died at age 125, Walker's activism stems from a philosophy that embraces all life and expresses itself through courageous truth-telling, a resolute stand for freedom, and radical love. Alice Walker: A Woman for Our Times offers a full examination of the intellectual underpinnings of Walker's life and her oeuvre from a philosophical standpoint. This philosophical biography draws a portrait of the author that reveals the nuances of her character, clarifies the relationship between her life experiences and her lifework, and the philosophical thought that underlies both. This work will be essential reading to those interested in Black studies, women's studies, the Civil Rights and Black Arts movements, peace studies, the American South, philosophy, psychology, sociology, spirituality and New Age literature, and ecology and eco-feminism.

Patrick Gordon Walker was born in 1907 with a conservative background: his father was a Judge in India. He went to prep school (St Ronan's), public school (Wellington) and Christ Church, Oxford as an undergraduate and then as a don. In Oxford he cut his political teeth, suffering some of the pitfalls that dogged his later time in office. He spent a year in Germany in the thirties, becoming fluent in the language and saw the beginnings of totalitarian rule. In the war he joined the BBC German service broadcasting to Germany. In 1945 he went with a radio car and recorded the first radio broadcasts from Belsen, published as The Lid Lifts. An extract from this book, long out of print, appears as an addendum. He became an MP in 1945, and was Commonwealth Relations Secretary from 1950-51, followed by thirteen years in opposition. He lost his seat at Smethwick in the 1964 general election, but still became Foreign Secretary until he was defeated in a by-election at Leyton in January 1965 and had to retire from his perfect job. Patrick Gordon Walker was a significant political figure in the Labour party which he joined as a don at Oxford. He was denied the highest political office, except for brief spells in the Cabinet. He wrote six important books, including The Lid Lifts, The Commonwealth and The Cabinet. He was a dedicated family man and devoted to his wife Audrey and five children who only have the happiest memories of a witty and charismatic father. 'My father never wrote an autobiography, and we were never quite sure why this was. It seems right that his life should be recorded in a political and family biography by one of his children and the task has fallen to me. The book traces my father's life story, his political career and his role as a family man. It has political and family photographs and is hopefully a fitting tribute to him' - ALAN GORDON WALKER
