Business and war: both are forms of conflict, and both have more in common than people think. Business, like war, is the art of outdoing the competition. Businesses, like armies, need to practice strategic thinking and understand the nature of competitive conflict. CEOs devise business plans to win in the marketplace; generals use strategic thinking to win wars. In The Way of the Warrior James Dunnigan and Daniel Masterson reveal the management lessons of history's finest twelve military leaders, including: Alexander the Great, on having vision; Genghis Khan, on quick decisions; Julius Caesar, on communication; Napoleon, on managing change; Ulysses S. Grant, on the art of the turnaround; Douglas MacArthur, on coping with disaster; and Norman Schwarzkopf, on building alliances. The management hubris of these men is directly applicable in today's business world. Comprehensive, insightful, and extremely accessible, The Way of the Warrior won't show you how to call in air strikes on the competition, but it will show you how to be a manager who never loses his cool under fire.

Warriors Of The Queen written by William Wright and has been published by The History Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-06 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Who were the men who commanded the British Army in the numerous small wars of the Victorian Empire? Today, many are all but forgotten, save the likes of Cardigan, Kitchener, Baden-Powell and Gordon of Khartoum. Yet they were a disparate and fascinating assemblage, made up of men of true military genius, as well as egoists, fools and despots. In Warriors of the Queen, William Wright surveys over 170 of these men, examining their careers and personalities. He reveals not only the lives of the great military names of the period but also of those whom history has overlooked, from James 'Buster' Browne, who once fought a battle in his nightshirt, to Jack Bisset, who had fought in three South African wars by his twenty-third birthday. Based on original research and complemented by over sixty photographs, Warriors of the Queen provides new insight into the men who built (and sometimes endangered) the British Empire on the battlefield.

Parliament S Generals written by Malcolm Wanklyn and has been published by Pen and Sword this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-30 with History categories.

The author of The Warrior Generals examines the machinations of the Parlimentarian military leadership during the English Civil War. Waller, Essex, Fairfax, Manchester, and Cromwell are among the most famous military men who fought for Parliament during the English Civil War. While their performance as generals has been explored in numerous books on the campaigns, comparatively little has been written by military historians about the political aspects of high command, namely the ever-changing and often fractious relationship with the English Parliament and its executive committees. With this book, Malcolm Wanklyn sheds light on the qualities these men employed in their attempts to achieve their military and political aspirations. In a series of insightful chapters, he follows their careers through the course of the conflict, focusing on their successes and failures in battle and the consequences for their reputations and influence. The author examines dissatisfaction with the leadership of Essex, Manchester, and Waller in the inconclusive early campaigns, as well as the contrasting strengths of Fairfax and Cromwell. This reassessment demonstrates how these commanders managed promotions, outmaneuvered their fellow generals, and controlled their subordinates.

This book tells the story of Subotai the Valiant, one of the greatest generals in military history, surely the equal of Hannibal and Scipio in tactical brilliance and ranking right along with both Alexander and Caesar as a strategist. Subotai commanded armies whose size, scale, and scope of operations surpassed all of the commanders of the ancient world. Under his direction and command, Mongol armies moved faster, over greater distances, and with a greater scope of maneuver than any army had ever done before. His legacy lives to the present day, for much of the theory and practice of modern military operations was first used by Subotai. The modern emphasis on speed, maneuver, surprise, envelopment, the rear battle, the deep battle, concentration of firepower, and the battle of annihilation all emerged as tactical skills first practiced by this great Mongol general. Subotai died at age 73, by which time he had conquered 32 nations and won 65 pitched battles, as the Muslim historians tell us. For 60 of those years, Subotai lived as Mongol soldier, first as a lowly private who kept the tent door of Genghis himself, rising to be the most brilliant and trusted of Genghis Khan's generals. When Genghis died, Subotai continued to be the moving force of the Mongol army under his successors. It was Subotai who planned and participated in the Mongol victories against Korea, China, Persia, and Russia. It was Subotai's conquest of Hungary that destroyed every major army between the Mongols and the threshold of Europe. Had the great Khan not died, it is likely that Subotai would have destroyed Europe itself.
