The Whore S Story written by Bradford K. Mudge and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-06-08 with Literary Criticism categories.

This fresh and persuasively argued book examines the origins of pornography in Britain and presents a comprehensive overview of women's role in the evolution of obscene fiction. Carefully monitoring the complex interconnections between three related debates--that over the masquerade, that over the novel, and that over prostitution--Mudge contextualizes the growing literary need to separate good fiction from bad and argues that that process was of crucial importance to the emergence of a new, middle-class state. Looking closely at sermons, medical manuals, periodical essays, and political tracts as well as poetry, novels, and literary criticism, The Whore's Story tracks the shifting politics of pleasure in eighteenth-century Britain and charts the rise of modern, pornographic sensibilities.

A Working History of Working Girls (and Guys) Have you ever wondered how Heidi Fleiss came to be the face of upscale prostitution or if Casanova really was the world's greatest lover? How about why Latin playboy Rubi Rubirosa got the nickname "The Ding Dong Daddy"? Anything but judgmental, Whore Stories sheds light on one of our more stigmatized icons: The Prostitute. Featuring the true stories of famous streetwalkers, call girls, rent boys, and go-go dancers, this book offers a revealing look at the men and women who have blazed the bawdy trail of prostitution since the dawn of time. While you may think that you know everything about this occupation, Whore Stories includes plenty of details and even celebrities, such as Maya Angelou and Bob Dylan, that will leave you in awe. From private schools and child preachers to mime fantasies and unfortunate amputations, this book uncovers the truth behind the world's oldest profession.

Authored by one of the most original contemporary thinkers on the subject, this book is an enlightening illustrated cultural history of the sex trade that puts sex workers center stage, revealing how they have lived and worked all around the globe. The history of selling sex is a hidden one—and too often its practitioners are pushed to the margins of history. This book redresses the balance, revealing the history of the sex trade through the eyes of sex workers, from medieval streets to Wild West saloons, and from brothels to state bedrooms. These enthralling tales are brought to life by Whores of Yore creator Kate Lister’s witty and authoritative text, and illuminated by a rich archive of photographs, artworks, and objects offering insight into sex workers’ lives, challenging assumptions about this age-old trade. Harlots, Whores & Hackabouts’ chapters are structured thematically in a broadly chronological order, each one introducing a lively cast of complex and entertaining characters operating in an array of different periods, locations, and settings. In ancient Mesopotamia, the harlot Shamhat was powerful and respected, able to civilize the wild man Enkidu through her charms. In medieval London, Elizabeth Moryng serviced religious clergy under the guise of an embroidery business, though she was eventually jailed for being a prolific panderer and bawd. In the hedonistic floating world of Edo, Japan, Kabuki actresses and geishas entertained and pleasured their patrons. Lister’s engaging and illuminating tales invite readers to look, listen, and reconsider everything they thought they knew about the world’s oldest profession. Together, these captivating tales of sex workers from around the world and throughout history provide a powerful context to contemporary debates about sexuality and the empowerment of women.

Tender Bodies and Whore Stories: an erotic fantasy with a satiric edge set in the world of military prostitution. The safe world of April and Maddy, military wife and daughter, collides with the dangerous, sensual Asian fantasy world of KokoBang, Military Brothel Capital of the planet, a place where vulnerable street waifs and seductive charmers trade sex for survival. Sweet and innocent April knows little of the hidden sexual pleasures available to men such as her soldier husband Jack when he visits military whores. In her protected world, she succumbs to the overwhelmingly handsome Alex while Jack is away. So does the even more sweet and innocent Maddy as this irresistibly charming man seduces both mother and daughter. Meanwhile, Jack's contact with little street whores destined for military service' makes him determined to shield his own soft darlings, April and Maddy, from this harsh side of reality. Tender Bodies is a book that leaves no whore tale untold. And no soldier tale either, for it is also the story of the military men who love the whores from gnarled, tough commandos like Warhorse to Bronze, a young warrior god, to protective rescuers like Jack. In KokoBang, Warhorse and Bronze, his young soldier protégé, take up with a wild hot whore name Cutie-Pie who specializes in gangbangs and a tender, shy one named Golden Lotus Blossom. Back home, they also consort with two stateside prostitutes Trish, a worn-out whore rescued by Warhorse and given a new life and Cindy, a lost sixteen-year-old forced to become a barracks whore due to starvation. Another good-guy soldier, Gerry, patronizes May. She wants him to rescue her from the hard, sex-drenched streets of KokoBang, but he fears that marriage to a whore will damage his military career. Tender Bodies is written from a whore's point of view. This perspective has rarely been attempted before. Previously, the story has always been told from the point of view of the soldier who uses the whore. Achilles takes Trojan captive Briseis as his sex slave. We don't know what she thinks of the arrangement. Soldiers line up to take turns on top of the field whore in Full Metal Jacket. Behind her sunglasses, we cannot see her eyes, as she is serially mounted. We know her only from the crude jokes the men make about her. We know nothing of what she feels as the men climb on top of her. Tender Bodies is written from the whore's point of view because the author worked as a military prostitute. She knows what it feels like to be mounted by a line of soldiers. Novels are impossible to describe since they only exist when you read them. In Tender Bodies memories nest within memories and stories within stories. A sexy centaur; mermaids disappearing in the waves, beneath the book; and fairies who vanish like smoke in the wind, gives this saga of raw sexuality an evanescent quality. Fantasy meets sex and from this emerge the beauty and pain and sadness of the whore life.

Mothers Monsters Whores written by Laura Sjoberg and has been published by Zed Books Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-04 with Political Science categories.

A woman did that? The general reaction to women's political violence is still one of shock and incomprehension. Mothers, Monsters, Whores provides an empirical study of women's violence in global politics. The book looks at military women who engage in torture; the Chechen 'Black Widows'; Middle Eastern suicide bombers; and the women who directed and participated in genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda. Sjoberg & Gentry analyse the biological, psychological and sexualized stereotypes through which these women are conventionally depicted, arguing that these are rooted in assumptions about what is 'appropriate' female behaviour. What these stereotypes have in common is that they all perceive women as having no agency in any sphere of life, from everyday choices to global political events. This book is a major feminist re-evaluation of women's motivations and actions as perpetrators of political violence.
