The United Nations has proclaimed the 21st century to be the century of water. In this volume, Water and Women in Past, Present and Future, scholars analyze the gendered political economy of water resource allocations and importantly, offer recommendations for viable, women-friendly solutions to address scarcity and distribution, among other issues. Contributors also explore feminist analyses of the aesthetic dimension of water and the feminine, since water is often associated with women, shown in cross-cultural examples of mythology, symbols and legends. Intersecting the fields of hydro-politics and aesthetics, this book should be of interest to policy analysts, activists, and academics.

The years 1890-1945 saw an unprecedented outpouring of fiction focused on British university life, much of it reflecting the drastic change that had swept through the higher education system in the late nineteenth century. Among these narratives, a significant subgroup focused on the lives of women students, newly admitted to the structures of higher education system, their presence still stridently, and sometimes even violently, opposed, especially at Oxbridge. These novels and short stories collected here, largely unknown today, were widely discussed and debated in the public sphere during the early twentieth century, contributing not only to the formation of public knowledge and opinion about education through cultural figures like the ‘Girton Girl’ or the ‘undergraduette,’ but also sparking debate about many wider social and cultural issues, from the place of the women writer in the literary scene to the emergence of new discourses around psychology and the body. The majority have not been reprinted since their original publication, and until now have been rarely available to scholars. The publication of Women’s University Narratives, 1890-1945, therefore, provides a major new resource for scholarship in many areas, including women’s studies, educational history, and literary and cultural modernism.

We know that way we dress says a lot about us. It’s drilled into us by our parents as children, as adults throughout our working lives, and eternally from the culture surrounding us. Our dress tells the outside world of the culture and era we come from to our social status within that culture. Our dress can be telling of our political views, religious beliefs, sexuality and countless other identifying traits that we can keep hidden or show to the world by our choice of what to wear when heading venturing out. This was absolutely true, famously so, in the Victorian Era in which men and women alike wore their status on their often lavish, embellished sleeves. In her new book, Dr. Madeleine Seyes explores Victorian culture through the lens of fashion in her new book, Double Threads: Fashion and Victorian Popular Literature, which sits at the intersection of the fields of Victorian literary studies, dress and material cultural studies, feminist literary criticism, and gender and sexuality studies.
