Stories And Accounts Of Some Of The Most Strange And Intriguing Unexplained Phenomena There are things that occur in this world- and have happened right through the whole of the human experience- for which there has never been a rational explanation. Remember, explanations are just temporary, going on and off in response to fads and fashions. However, the happenings they are supposed to explain carry on as mysteriously as ever. Yet mysterious phenomena are also to a certain extent influenced by imagination. For instance, clusters of living toads and hibernating swallows impressed into rocks, regularly recorded by naturalists, seem to have died out. Mariners, these days, hardly ever witness sea monsters and giant octopuses. Rings of dancing fairies, once a common folklore belief, are now rare. To make up for these temporary losses, other kinds of weird and unexplained phenomena have come up in this modern age- UFO sightings, mutilations of cattle and horses, the phenomenon of crop circles etc. Having said that, the standard mysteries, those which have perplexed humanity from the very beginning, continue to do so. Strange creatures and things fall, at times slowly, from rather unknown sources; people walk over glowing trenches of hot coals, encounter monsters in mountains and lakes and are subject to strange coincidences...

Confessions Of A Recovering Environmentalist And Other Essays written by Paul Kingsnorth and has been published by Graywolf Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-01 with Literary Collections categories.

A provocative and urgent essay collection that asks how we can live with hope in “an age of ecocide” Paul Kingsnorth was once an activist—an ardent environmentalist. He fought against rampant development and the depredations of a corporate world that seemed hell-bent on ignoring a looming climate crisis in its relentless pursuit of profit. But as the environmental movement began to focus on “sustainability” rather than the defense of wild places for their own sake and as global conditions worsened, he grew disenchanted with the movement that he once embraced. He gave up what he saw as the false hope that residents of the First World would ever make the kind of sacrifices that might avert the severe consequences of climate change. Full of grief and fury as well as passionate, lyrical evocations of nature and the wild, Confessions of a Recovering Environmentalist gathers the wave-making essays that have charted the change in Kingsnorth’s thinking. In them he articulates a new vision that he calls “dark ecology,” which stands firmly in opposition to the belief that technology can save us, and he argues for a renewed balance between the human and nonhuman worlds. This iconoclastic, fearless, and ultimately hopeful book, which includes the much-discussed “Uncivilization” manifesto, asks hard questions about how we’ve lived and how we should live.

Stories, whether they are fact or fiction, popular or not, are a proven method of pedagogy. In the age of media convergence and with the advancement of technology, stories have morphed into new forms; however, their core purpose remains the same, which is to pass on knowledge and information. The internet, with its inherent interactivity, and story, with its inherent capacity to engage, can lead to innovative and transformative learning experiences in media-rich environments. This book focuses on web-based Transmedia Storytelling Edutainment (TmSE) as an andragogical practice in higher education. Story is at the forefront of this investigation because narrative is the basis for developing entertainment media franchise that can be incorporated into pedagogical practice. The propulsion of this analysis consists of practice-based research through narrative inquiry and an e-module case study presented on multimedia storytelling in the classroom. A Transmedia Storytelling Framework is provided for creating screenplays for cross-media projects and for analyzing their appropriateness in education. Additionally, a hypertext screenplay, which allowed students to dig deeper into the story word and to build more knowledge, is evaluated for its use in higher education. Since screenplays are by nature writing for the screen, it is believed that the more visual the input, the more likely it is to be memorized and recalled. A link to The Goddess Within screenplay is available for download on the right hand side of this page.
