Jesus said, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples." What does it mean to "abide" in the Word? How do we abide in the Word and His words in us? Scripture explains Scripture. So each lesson is a paragraph or two of scripture text in context, sorted by themes, where two or more of the words "abide, in the Word and/or in you" (and their various synonyms) appear in the same paragraph; followed by four questions. Each Scripture is in context, but it is best if you also read what surrounds these verses. The following is a condensed summary of the Scriptures included in this Bible study on abiding in the Word and the Word in you. When we abide in the Word of God, we get to know God. All Scripture is God breathed. The Word of God testifies of Jesus Christ. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Jesus is the Word. He is the grace of God, in truth and in the light. Through Him all things were made. He upholds all things by the Word of his power. Jesus' words are Spirit, and they are life. When we abide in the Word, the Word is in our heart and in our mouth. Disciples of Jesus Christ give attention to reading the Word. We hold fast to the Word, trust in the Word, put our hope in the Word, who is Jesus. We stand in the truth. When we abide in the Word, and the Word in us, we have fellowship in the Light. The truth is in us and we're not double-minded. He teaches us and gives us understanding according to His will. And when we delight in Him and meditate on His Word, the love of the Father abides in us. His joy is made perfect in us. When we feed on the bread of the Word, the Word of abides in us. We suggest you start by reading the Gospel message under the heading, Start Here. We cannot abide in the Word and the Word in us without knowing Jesus and responding to the Good News.
