What happens when a practicing witch/astrologer (i.e., idolater) -- a former Lutheran minister -- suddenly meets Jesus? He learns a lot about Jesus in a hurry. This book is the second in a series of observations concerning commitment to Jesus and the state of the Christian religion today, flavored by flight from occultism and its fears and horrors, and written not to "instruct" but to share. It deals with topics as various as evolution, demons, and most importantly, the "born again" experience. It is unashamedly conservative in emphasis, as befits Christian commitment in the last days before the return of the Lord. The author's primary concern is that the meaning of Jesus' command, "You must be born again," must be understood once again for what it really means. The day of "interpreting" the Bible to make it say politically correct things is over; God will not tolerate that any longer. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!

From clean drinking water, to seat belts, to immunizations, the impact of public health on every individual is undeniable. For undergraduates, an understanding of the foundations of public health is an essential step toward becoming an educated citizen. Public Health 101: Healthy People––Healthy Populations provides a big-picture, population perspective on the determinants of health and disease and the tools available to protect and promote health. It examines the full range of options for intervention including use of the healthcare system, the public health system, and society-wide systems such as laws and taxation. Through case studies, vignettes, and extensive examples, readers will come away with a clear understanding of how public health affects them in their everyday lives. They will learn and apply frameworks for thinking about the issues of public health and gain a deeper understanding about the health news they are exposed to each day. Key Features: Public Health 101 fully implements the curriculum framework, learning objectives, and “enduring understandings” of undergraduate public health education as recommended by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U)* and the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR). Frameworks for thinking, checklists, and step-by-step examples provide students with hands-on practice. Case studies, vignettes, and extensive illustrations reinforce the materials and provide interactive exercises for classroom discussions, homework, and examinations. Most of the world's experts on prions met for a workshop in Erice in August 1996. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the fundamentals of the science ofprions. It was for tunate that so many could be present given the pressure that they were under because of the data presented in March 1996, indicating that Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, BSE or Mad Cow Disease, had penetrated the species barrier and was beginning to cause a new dis ease in humans--the new variant ofCreutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, nvCJD. This important and urgent subject became an additional major topic at the workshop. This is a book containing most of the talks plus the abstracts of those unable to find time to write up their talks. Almost all papers were written in the spring and summer of 1997 and contain material added after the workshop; thus Bob Will's paper on the new variant of cm contains data up to July 1997 and four contributions arrived in October 1997. In addition to the talks given at our workshop, there was a special joint session with the Planetary Emergencies Workshop where many distinguished scientists, including three Nobel laureates, discussed major issues affecting our planet. Six talks were given by us to this other workshop, five about prions, BSE, and nvCJD, and one on the broader issue of new epi demics by Luc Montagnier. Although most of the talks concerned research issues, there were a few special talks.
