Includes the plays: Sense, Nightblind and Blowing. Following on from the success of the first collection of Theatre Café plays in 2008, this new collection includes 3 plays from this astonishing European theatre project. From award winning writer Anja Hilling, Sense is a play about teenagers, love, and the need to make radical choices. An intense, poetic journey into touching, inhaling, tasting, hearing, seeing and experiencing life to the extreme, five stories about five senses. While each story links to the next part, all five ‘Senses’ are also plays in their own right. In Nightblind Leyla’s life is on the verge of collapse. Caught between affection and violence, desire and self-destruction, she is faced with the decision of her life. Elegantly constructed, Darja Stocker’s extraordinary debut play tells of liberation and endurance - as well as the necessity of dreaming. Nightblind won First Prize at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt 2005. From Jeroen van den Berg, Blowing is an explosive farce, upgraded for the YouTube generation. Winner of the prestigious Dutch Taalunie Award for Best Play, Blowing tells the story of a family imploding under the weight of its own fantasy. Blowing is a searingly funny critique of family pretensions and adult condescension to children.

Tony Stowers is an author, playwright, actor and teacher who was born in North East England in 1963 and now lives somewhere in North West France. This collection, two of four volumes, features theatre plays for schools and family audiences and theatre companies with low budgets. "Harry's Dream" (1997) was written as a response to help children respond to intimidation and violence in schools. It tells the story of bullied Harry who meets an alien called Venus who crash lands on Earth on her way to school and, while helping her fix her engine, learns a few tricks to help him cope. "My Brother Jake" (1997), aimed at teenage audiences, is the story of teenage Jake who betrays the trust of his younger brother and their single Mum by secretly dealing drugs. "Scars" (1998) commissioned by Durham County Council to address vandalism issues amongst young people, tells a story based on a real-life incident. "Eddie" (1999) is a reflective look back at the accomplishments of ordinary working people against the backdrop of the wider world during the twentieth century. "Cyrano" (1999) is a comedy re-vamp of both Edmond Rostand's original "Cyrano de Bergerac" and Steve Martin's film "Roxanne", updated and relocated to a small Northern English town in the 1990's. Each play comes with notes and original publicity, where possible.

Includes the plays African Gothic, Good Heavens and Breathing In A farm lies in ruin. And with mother and father now gone, a brother and sister face eviction by an officious lawyer. Abandoned, they endlessly enact the rituals of punishment once visited upon them by their parents. Widely regarded as a milestone in South African theatre, the multi-award winning play African Gothic tells the story of their final 'dance macabre'. Despite overwhelming critical acclaim, it was also fiercely condemned by Afrikaans conservatives as being a subversive portrayal of repression. Good Heavens is a comedy thriller with the dark poetic heart of a folk-tale. Two spinster sisters, with their ailing mother and simple-minded brother, await the annual visit of their youngest sister. Deeply envious of her beauty and youth, they hatch a diabolical plot to rid themselves of her forever. In Breathing In, on a stormy night in the last bitter months of the Second Anglo-Boer War, a seriously wounded General and his faithful Adjutant encounter a mysterious woman and her seductive other-wordly daughter, and are confronted with the subtle methods of survival these women have been forced to adopt. Accustomed to the rigours of war, the corageous Adjutant now faces a terrible choice.

Jez Butterworth Plays Two written by JEZ. BUTTERWORTH and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-11 with categories.

'Come, you drunken spirits. Come, you battalions. You fields of ghosts who walk these green plains still. Come, you giants!' When Jez Butterworth's Jerusalem premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 2009, it served notice of an astonishing development in the career of a writer whose debut, Mojo, had premiered on the same stage nearly fifteen years before. Unearthing the mythic roots of contemporary English life, and featuring Mark Rylance in an indelible central performance as Johnny 'Rooster' Byron, the play transferred to the West End and then to Broadway, before returning to the West End in 2011. 'Storming... restores one's faith in the power of theatre' Independent. 'Unarguably one of the best dramas of the twenty-first century' Guardian. Jerusalem was followed by the bewitching chamber play The River (Royal Court, 2012), a 'magnetically eerie, luminously beautiful psychodrama' Time Out. 'A delicately unfolding puzzle... all of it is wrapped in marvellous language... extraordinary' The Times. This volume concludes with the multi-award-winning The Ferryman (Royal Court and West End, 2017; Broadway, 2018), an excavation of lives shattered by violence, set in a farmhouse in Northern Ireland in 1981. 'A richly absorbing and emotionally abundant play... an instant classic' Independent. 'A magnificent play that uses, brilliantly, the vitality of live theatre to express the deadly legacy of violence' Financial Times. Also included here is the screenplay for the short film The Clear Road Ahead (2011), published here for the first time, and an edited transcript of a conversation between Butterworth and the playwright Simon Stephens.

Let S Play Two written by Anthony Clarvoe and has been published by Broadway Play Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-11 with Drama categories.

"Elegantly written...it evolves into a moving argument for that eternal gamble with terrible odds: taking a chance on love. The pleasure...is its unexpected depth. The intimacy of the conversation draws the audience in; before LET'S PLAY TWO is over, you may find yourself in tears over Grace's delicate emotional condition and, more significantly, Phil's capacity for acceptance and goodness." Peter Marks, The New York Times "LET'S PLAY TWO hits a home run.... Anthony Clarvoe pulls off a difficult feat and makes it look easy. At a time when romance is often cynically treated onstage as some sort of poisoned folly, he makes us care about two ordinary, likable people trying to connect.... LET'S PLAY TWO is a genuine date play. Clarvoe turns us all into fans and gets us rooting for both sides at once." Steven Winn, San Francisco Chronicle "LET'S PLAY TWO...should please anybody who enjoys a tender, rueful, well-acted romantic comedy.... The play is not really about baseball--it's about a turning point in the romance between two baseball fans. Clarvoe never glorifies, nor condescends to, his average guy and gal characters. He always observes them with clear eyes, but affectionate humor and respect.... LET'S PLAY TWO is highly engaging, and surprisingly, it lingers with a sweet poignancy long after it's over." Matthew Surrence, Oakland Tribune "Clarvoe writes exceptionally clever dialogue. He knows how to map out the psychological journeys of Grace and Phil so that we remain eager to travel along for two acts and two hours. And he's created two characters at once familiar and endearingly oddly matched. The further you travel with Grace and Phil, the more you end up liking--and rooting for--both of them." Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Examiner "Clarvoe is more interested in the human comedy than the comedy of errors. Baseball anecdotes and metaphors abound, but they're never belabored. The lovers are an appealing pair, fighting against love as hard as they fight for it, and their simultaneous win and loss is sweet to see." Judith Green, San Jose Mercury News
