The play is set in the metaphoric state of Hungaria. Nagging questions and concerns fuel the struggles of rising militant and radicalised women and youths in a dramatised revolutionary struggle for change and challenge to tradition. The relegated women take centre-stage to air their grievances and project their cause to the international community in an effort to destabilise the multinational forces and class interests which have oppressed them for so long. They ask, how long can a people whose land produces the richest oil and gas resources, which control local, national and foreign interests, continue to exist in silence, abject poverty and hunger, and sugger acute fuel, water and electricity shortages? The author has won the Association of Nigerian Authors' Drama Prize three times for Shakara: Dance-Hall Queen, Tell It To Women, and The Desert Encroaches.

No longer able to contain the seething pain of indignity and silence, her voice finally erupted and broke through the guarded prison walls, where she had been subjected to exist (or die many times!) in her lifetime. Then she said it! At last--amplifying the choking voices of daughters wounded in the ravaged land of Hungeria, typified in the drama. Echoes of tortured voices of women stab and slash through the body of the universe as the people cry out loud. How long can a people--whose land produces the richest oil and natural gas resources for the controlling multinational interests--continue to suffer and exist in Silence? Abject Poverty? Hunger and Starvation? Environmental Pollution? Chronic Fuel, Water and Electricity Shortages? Violent Rape? Abuse of Women and Girls? Selective Genocide? State Terrorism? Displacement? Massive Corruption? Humiliation and Betrayal--especially in the hands of those elected and entrusted to protect them? Nagging questions and concerns fuel the impoverished into militancy, as they become radicalized and grow in the revolutionary struggle to confront the exploitative multinational forces of capital/injustice in the full glare of the international community to provoke change. Set in the troubled state of Hungeria, this humorous socio-political satire dramatizes the global 'poly-tricks' of oil and globalization by the privileged few, who cripple the masses of women and youth, as they 'kill' the environment. How long can a people with the richest oil and gas resources in their land continue to choke in silence, hunger and abject poverty in the quest for basic amenities of clean water, food, electricity, light, power, arable land and related necessities?

Now a major motion picture, starring Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan "An instant classic of investigative journalism...‘All the President’s Men’ for the Me Too era." — Carlos Lozada, The Washington Post From Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, the untold story of their investigation of Harvey Weinstein and its consequences for the #MeToo movement For years, reporters had tried to get to the truth about Harvey Weinstein’s treatment of women. Rumors of wrongdoing had long circulated, and in 2017, when Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey began their investigation for the New York Times, his name was still synonymous with power. But during months of confidential interviews with actresses, former Weinstein employees, and other sources, many disturbing and long-buried allegations were unearthed, and a web of onerous secret payouts and nondisclosure agreements was revealed. When Kantor and Twohey were finally able to convince sources to go on the record, a dramatic final showdown between Weinstein and the New York Times was set in motion. In the tradition of great investigative journalism, She Said tells a thrilling story about the power of truth and reveals the inspiring and affecting journeys of the women who spoke up—for the sake of other women, for future generations, and for themselves.

" . . . carefully researched and clearly written . . . Goodwin makes a major step in redefining the enterprise of studying language use in context and across contexts." —American Ethnologist "I recommend the book highly." —John Haviland, American Anthropologist "Goodwin's thoughtful interpretation of these examples [of children's conversation] is replete with wise insights, challenging critical darts, and well-referenced links to a wide literature." —Child Development Abstracts & Bibliography "Intellectual breadth shines through this book." —Barrie Thorne "By combining Goffman's approach to ethnography with in-depth conversational analysis, Goodwin provides important and novel insights into the interactive processes through which culture is created and maintained. The results should be of interest to any social scientist." —John J. Gumperz " . . . required reading for linguists, anthropologists, sociologists, and educators." —Language and Acquisition "This book is clearly a significant addition to the study of the range and power of children's voices at play . . . " —Harvard Educational Review "He-Said-She-Said provides fascinating insight into the importance of social context in the organization of gender." —Signs "A rare and wonderful combination of ethnography and conversational analysis. Goodwin gives both a sensitive account of African American adolescent street talk and a careful approach to the study of language in use." —Ray McDermott "Marjorie Harness Goodwin's study of children's talk provides the best and most comprehensive analysis of gender differences in interaction, situated in the broader context of children's social organization. She didn't set up experiments; she didn't just take field notes. She hung around with the children in her neighborhood until they trusted her, then tape-recorded their natural conversations as they played together. This is Goodwin's long-awaited compilation of years of painstaking analysis of the transcripts of those tapes. It is not only one of the best sources, if not the best source, for anyone interested in how boys and girls use language in their daily lives—indeed, to constitute their daily lives; it is also a model ethnographic study of language in its natural setting." —Deborah Tannen, author of You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation This groundbreaking study describes in detail the complexities of children's communication. By integrating the analysis of conversation with ethnography, Marjorie Harness Goodwin systematically and empirically reveals how a group of urban black children constitute their social world through talk.

No longer relegated to reporting on society happenings or household hints, women columnists have over the past twenty years surged across the boundary separating the "women's" or "lifestyle" sections and into the formerly male bastions of the editorial, financial, medical, and "op-ed" pages. Where men previously controlled the nation's new organizations, were the chief opinion givers, and defined what is newsworthy, many women newspaper columnists are now nationally syndicated and tackle the same subjects as their male counterparts, bringing with them distinctive styles and viewpoints. Through these frank and lively interviews, Maria Braden explores the lives and work of columnists Erma Bombeck, Jane Brody, Mona Charen, Merlene Davis, Georgie Anne Geyer, Dorothy Gilliam, Ellen Goodman, Molly Ivins, Mary McGrory, Judith ("Miss Manners") Martin, Joyce Maynard, Anna Quindlen, and Jane Bryant Quinn. Pofiles describe how these writers got started, where they get the nerve to tell the world what they think, how they generate ideas for columns, and what it's like to create under the pressure of deadlines. Representative columns illustrate their distinctive voices, and an introductory essay provides a historical overview of women in journalism, including pioneering women columnists Fanny Fern, Dorothy Thompson, and Sylvia Porter. Braden finds that today's women columnists frequently raise issues or use examples unique to their gender. Because they are likely to have a direct personal connection to current social issues such as abortion, child care, or sexual harassment, they are able to provide fresh perspectives on these provocative topics. In doing so, they are helping to define what is worthy of attention in the '90s and to shape public response. A unique addition to the literature on women in journalism, this book will interest general readers as well as students of journalism, literature, American studies, and women's studies. Aspiring writers will find here role models and practical guidance.

He Said She Said written by Ken Kaye and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-12 with Family & Relationships categories.

Based on Ken & Jasmyn Klarfeld's experiences from Jasmyn's early childhood to present day, He Said, She Said: A Father-Daughter Perspective offers a unique view of this sometimes difficult relationship. Since Klarfeld's daughter exhibited the qualities of an out-of-control teen, it took perseverance and patience to learn how to understand her perspective. He Said, She Said offers a distinctive format by recounting events-from childhood to adolescence-from both the father and daughter's point of view. These differing viewpoints effectively tell both sides of the story and give you an inside look at just how drastically different parents and children think. For families who face the same difficulties, He Said, She Said illustrates the steps Klarfeld and his daughter took to help turn her life around. Her success story will inspire you to make the necessary changes in your relationship with your children, helping you to better understand your children's behavior on a variety of issues. "As a marriage and family therapist I found this book to be a good example of the significance of family dynamics in the raising of teenagers. In today's world it is becoming increasingly more difficult for parents and teens to make the journey through adolescence. I applaud Mr. Klarfeld's willingness to share his family's struggle in such an open and honest way. " -Lynne Harr, MA, a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist "A rare glimpse into the realities of parenting and being parented. Both father and daughter reveal the struggles, joys and separate realities of their relationship with authentic down to the bone honesty." -Dr. Robyn Wallace-Blanchard PhD NCSP Educational Psychologist
