"Theology without Borders, the title of this volume, evokes the seminal contributions of Peter Phan, a remarkably productive and creative scholar who challenges us to make global humanity the starting point for theological reflection. Over several decades, Phan has persuaded us that the collapse of established, bounded frameworks - especially that of a European Christianity with a monopoly on truth - is not to be feared but celebrated. His prodigious output has contributed to and enriched literatures in ecclesiology, Christology, missiology, patristics, and other fields. This volume brings together the contributions from a number of leading scholars and engages systematically with Phan's ideas across a range of vitally important topics, from global Christianity and migration to religious pluralism, the legacies of the Second Vatican Council, and eschatological controversies. Taken together, the essays provide an overview of Phan's scholarly contributions and a road map for better understanding theology without borders in our contemporary world"--

Combining the voices of a Western and a non-Western theologian, it integrates Western theological tradition with emerging global perspectives. All major organized religions are confined to rules and regulations promulgated since ancient times, but with the passage of time, those writings became outdated in contemporary society. Even so, religious rules and regulations remained fixed. As a result, spirituality emerged as a driving force that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional religion. In this book, the author examines how religions have been stifled by their inability to adapt to recent times. He asserts that religion is based on myths, folklore, and supernatural miracles. Spirituality, however, is more about an inner quest. Spirituality emphasizes compassion, patience, harmony, and concern for others. Humanity is the active part of spirituality when one’s compassion toward others translates into a kind concern to do well. To enhance and enrich human life, the author highlights the need to fight hunger and poverty, to establish peace, and to protect the environment and natural resources. Discover practical aspects of spirituality and humanity that will help us achieve a more meaningful existence with the powerful insights in Religion without Boundaries.

Theological dictionaries are foundational to any theological library. But until now there has been no Global Dictionary of Theology, a theological dictionary that presumes the contribution of the Western tradition but moves beyond it to embrace and explore a full range of global expressions of theology. The Global Dictionary of Theology is inspired by the shift of the center of Christianity from the West to the Global South. But it also reflects the increase in two-way traffic between these two sectors as well as the global awareness that has permeated popular culture to an unprecedented degree. The editorial perspective of the Global Dictionary of Theology is an ecumenical evangelicalism that is receptive to discovering new facets of truth through listening and conversation on a global scale. Thus a distinctive feature of the Global Dictionary of Theology is its conversational approach. Contributors have been called on to write in the spirit of engaging in a larger theological conversation in which alternative views are expected and invited. William A. Dyrness, Veli-Matti Kärkkäinen, Juan F. Martinez and Simon Chan edit approximately 250 articles written by over 100 contributors representing the global spectrum of theological perspectives. Pastors, theological teachers, theological students and lay Christian leaders will all find the Global Dictionary of Theology to be a resource that unfolds new dimensions and reveals new panoramas of theological perspective and inquiry. Here is a new launching point for doing theology in today's global context.

"Everyone who believes in God at all believes that He knows what you and I are going to do tomorrow." –C. S. Lewis This understanding of God's foreknowledge has united the church for twenty centuries. But advocates of "open theism" are presenting a different vision of God and a different view of the future. The rise of open theism within evangelicalism has raised a host of questions. Was classical theism decisively tainted by Greek philosophy? How should we understand passages that tell us that God repents? Are essentials of biblical Christianity–like the inerrancy of Scripture, the trustworthiness of God, and the Gospel of Christ–at stake in this debate? Where, when, and why should we draw new boundaries–and is open theism beyond them? Beyond the Bounds brings together a respected team of scholars to examine the latest literature, address these questions, and give guidance to the church in this time of controversy. Contributors include: John Piper Wayne Grudem Michael S. Horton Bruce A. Ware Mark R. Talbot A. B. Caneday Stephen J. Wellum Justin Taylor Paul Kjoss Helseth Chad Brand William C. Davis Russell Fuller "We have prepared this book to address the issue of boundaries and, we pray, bring some remedy to the present and impending pain of embracing open theism as a legitimate Christian vision of God. . . . As a pastor, who longs to be biblical and God-centered and Christ-exalting and eternally helpful to my people, I see open theism as theologically ruinous, dishonoring to God, belittling to Christ, and pastorally hurtful. My prayer is that Christian leaders will come to see it this way, and thus love the church by counting open theism beyond the bounds of orthodox Christian teaching." –From the Foreword by John Piper

Religion within the Boundaries of Mere Reason is a key element of the system of philosophy which Kant introduced with his Critique of Pure Reason, and a work of major importance in the history of Western religious thought. It represents a great philosopher's attempt to spell out the form and content of a type of religion that would be grounded in moral reason and would meet the needs of ethical life. It includes sharply critical and boldly constructive discussions on topics not often treated by philosophers, including such traditional theological concepts as original sin and the salvation or 'justification' of a sinner, and the idea of the proper role of a church. This volume presents it and three short essays that illuminate it in new translations by Allen Wood and George di Giovanni, with an introduction by Robert Merrihew Adams that locates it in its historical and philosophical context.

The Rabbinic compilations in the canon of Rabbinic Judaism, from the Mishnah through the Bavli, ca. 200-600 C.E., are comprised by two classifications of writing, [1] documentary and [2] non-documentary. Documentary writing conforms to a protocol paramount in, and particular to, a given text. Non-documentary writing ignores the distinctive preferences of the compilation in which it appears. The former is defined for each Rabbinic document, respectively, by a unique combination of choices as to form or rhetoric, topic or problem or proposition, and logic of coherent discourse and analysis (terms explained presently). The latter type of writing simply ignores the indicative documentary traits. It thereby crosses the boundaries that separate one text from another, indeed a given canonical compilation from all others. 'Texts without boundaries' refers to writing that ignores the protocols of the document(s) in which it is preserved.
