The role of theory in science was formulated very brilliantly by Max Planck: Experimenters are the striking force of science. The experiment is a question which science puts to nature. The measurement is the registration of nature’s answer. But before the question is put to nature,it must be formulated. Before the measurement result is used, itmust be explained, i.e., the answer must be understood correctly. These two problems are obligations of the theoreticians. Chemical engineering is an experimental science, but theory permits us to formulate correct experimental conditions and to understand correctly the exp- imental results. The theoretical methods of chemical engineering for modeling and simulation of industrial processes are surveyed in this book. Theoretical chemical engineering solves the problems that spring up from the necessity for a quantitative description of the processes in the chemical industry. They are quite different at the different stages of the quantitative description, i.e., a wide circle of theoretical methods are required for their solutions. Modeling and simulation are a united approach to obtain a quantitative description of the processes and systems in chemical engineering and chemical technology, which is necessary to clarify the process mechanism or for optimal process design, process control, and plant renovation. Modeling is the creation of the mathematical model, i.e., construction of the mathematical description (on the basis of the process mechanism), calculation of the model parameters (using experimental data), and statistical analysis of the model adequacy.

In recent years chemical engineers have become increasingly involved in the design and synthesis of new materials and products as well as the development of biological processes and biomaterials. Such applications often demand that product properties be controlled with precision. Molecular modeling, simulating chemical and molecular structures or processes by computer, aids scientists in this endeavor. Volume 28 of Advances in Chemical Engineering presents discussions of theoretical and computational methods as well as their applications to specific technologies.

This book presents a theoretical analysis of the modern methods used for modeling various chemical engineering processes. Currently, the two primary problems in the chemical industry are the optimal design of new devices and the optimal control of active processes. Both of these problems are often solved by developing new methods of modeling. These methods for modeling specific processes may be different, but in all cases, they bring the mathematical description closer to the real processes by using appropriate experimental data. In this book, the authors detail a new approach for the modeling of chemical processes in column apparatuses. Further, they describe the types of neural networks that have been shown to be effective in solving important chemical engineering problems. Readers are also presented with mathematical models of integrated bioethanol supply chains (IBSC) that achieve improved economic and environmental sustainability. The integration of energy and mass processes is one of the most powerful tools for creating sustainable and energy efficient production systems. This book defines the main approaches for the thermal integration of periodic processes, direct and indirect, and the recent integration of small-scale solar thermal dryers with phase change materials as energy accumulators. An exciting overview of new approaches for the modeling of chemical engineering processes, this book serves as a guide for the important innovations being made in theoretical chemical engineering.

As chemistry becomes more and more amenable to mathematically rigorous study, it is likely that chemistry will also become an alert and demanding consumer of new mathematical results. From theoretical chemistry and quantum chemistry, to applied fields such as molecular modelling, drug design, molecular engineering, and the development of supra molecular structures, mathematical chemistry is an important discipline providing both explanations and predictions. This book has an important role in advancing chemistry to an era of detailed understanding of molecules and reactions.

Understanding mathematical modeling is fundamental in chemical engineering. This book reviews, introduces, and develops the mathematical models that are most frequently encountered in sophisticated chemical engineering domains. The volume provides a collection of models illustrating the power and richness of the mathematical sciences in supplying insight into the operation of important real-world systems. It fills a gap within modeling texts, focusing on applications across a broad range of disciplines. The first part of the book discusses the general components of the modeling process and highlights the potential of modeling in the production of nanofibers. These chapters discuss the general components of the modeling process and the evolutionary nature of successful model building in the electrospinning process. Electrospinning is the most versatile technique for the preparation of continuous nanofibers obtained from numerous materials. This section of book summarizes the state-of-the art in electrospinning as well as updates on theoretical aspects and applications. Part 2 of the book presents a selection of special topics on issues in applied chemistry and chemical engineering, including nanocomposite coating processes by electrocodeposition method, entropic factors conformational interactions, and the application of artificial neural network and meta-heuristic algorithms. This volume covers a wide range of topics in mathematical modeling, computational science, and applied mathematics. It presents a wealth of new results in the development of modeling theories and methods, advancing diverse areas of applications and promoting interdisciplinary interactions between mathematicians, scientists, engineers and representatives from other disciplines.

The Theory Of Recycle Processes In Chemical Engineering written by M. F. Nagiev and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-12 with Science categories.

The Theory of Recycle Processes in Chemical Engineering deals with the theory and methods related to dynamic (flow) systems and with the processes in static systems with recycles, The book investigates complex recycle processes through the use of concepts and examples. The development and refinement of chemical technology involves processes that are purely chemical or technological in nature. The technological approach consists in the design of industrial processes where chemical reaction occurs with minimum by-products, and with the maximum useful employment of each unit of catalyst surface and reaction space. The book explores effective systems for the complex processing of chemical raw materials using the technological approach. The text reviews the elementary principles of the theory of recycle process through derivation of equations for simple recycling processes where one or more chemical reactions occur in a single medium or reactor in which the reactions happen consecutively, or in a parallel manner. The book also explains how the investigator can determine the technologically-optimum characteristics of the reaction unit employing five steps. The text will benefit industrial chemists, researchers, technical designers, and engineers, whose works are related with chemistry and recycling.
