Petrus van Mastricht’s Theoretical and Practical Theology presents one of the most comprehensive methods of treating Christian doctrine. In it, Mastricht treats every theological topic according to a four-part approach: exegetical, dogmatic, elenctic, and practical. As a body of divinity, it combines a rigorous, scholastic treatment of doctrine with the pastoral aim of preparing people to live for God through Christ. Students and pastors will find it a valuable model for moving from the text of Scripture to doctrinal formulation that will edify the people of God. Volume 1, Prolegomena, provides an introduction to doing systematic theology. Mastricht begins by addressing the nature of theology, wherein he lays out the proper method, subject matter, and definition of theology. He then discusses Scripture as the rule of doing theology, as it is the only infallible source and foundation for knowing God. Finally, Mastricht gives his rationale for the best distribution of theological topics. This volume also includes Mastricht’s homiletical aid “The Best Method of Preaching,” as well as a biographical sketch by Adriaan Neele to help readers understand the significance of Mastricht’s life and ministry. Table of Contents: The Prolegomena of Theoretical-Practical Theology 1699 Dedication 1699 Preface Methodical Arrangement of the Whole Work 1. The Nature of Theology 2. Holy Scripture 3. "'Deification' refers to the transformation of believers into the likeness of God. Of course, Christian monotheism goes against any literal 'god making' of believers. Rather, the NT speaks of a transformation of mind, a metamorphosis of character, a redefinition of selfhood, and an imitation of God. Most of these passages are tantalizingly brief, and none spells out the concept in detail."

Inductive Inference And Its Natural Ground written by Hilary Kornblith and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Philosophy categories.

Hilary Kornblith presents an account of inductive inference that addresses both its metaphysical and epistemological aspects. He argues that inductive knowledge is possible by virtue of the fit between our innate psychological capacities and the causal structure of the world. Kornblith begins by developing an account of natural kinds that has its origins in John Locke's work on real and nominal essences. In Kornblith's view, a natural kind is a stable cluster of properties that are bound together in nature. The existence of such kinds serves as a natural ground of inductive inference.Kornblith then examines two features of human psychology that explain how knowledge of natural kinds is attained. First, our concepts are structured innately in a way that presupposes the existence of natural kinds. Second, our native inferential tendencies tend to provide us with accurate beliefs about the world when applied to environments that are populated by natural kinds.

Here's an easy-to-follow, visual guide to using the Wechsler Intelligence and Memory Scales to design assessments and make interpretations you can stand by -- assessments and interpretations that are both psychometrically and theoretically defensible. In this guide, Dawn Flanagan, Kevin McGrew, and Samuel Ortiz modernize the interpretation of the Wechsler Intelligence Scales by applying Gf-Gc theory and the cross-battery approach to intellectual assessment and interpretation. They show you in-depth how to use cross-battery principles and techniques to augment the Wechsler Intelligence Scales (WPPSI-R, WISC-III, WAIS-III) in a psychometrically defensible manner and how to interpret the results of Wechsler-based cross-battery assessments within the context of today's theory and research. In the three comprehensive parts, the guide shows the approach used by the authors: a comprehensive review of the psychometric, theoretical, and qualitative characteristics of all of the individual subtests of the WPPSI-R, WISC-III, WAIS-III, WMS-III, and CMS; and a thorough understanding of the product of grounding cognitive ability assessment and interpretation, with the Wechsler Scales, in strong theory and research -- the Wechsler-based Gf-Gc cross-battery approach. What's more, The Wechsler-based cross-battery approach presented here narrows the theory-practice gap in the field of intellectual assessment and includes well-articulated theory and research based guidelines for conducting Wechsler cross-battery assessments with culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. For practicing clinicians.

In this biography of Reformed theologian Francis Turretin (1623–87), Nicholas A. Cumming provides critical context for the life and theology of this important seventeenth-century theologian and his impact on the Reformed tradition as a whole. Turretin has commonly been identified as a strict scholastic theologian; this work places Turretin in his broader context, analyzing his life and theology in terms of the political and religious aspects of post-Reformation Europe and his posthumous influence on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Reformed theology. This work begins with a biography of Turretin, including his education and ministry, then proceeds to the context of Turretin’s theology in the early modern and modern periods, particularly in relation to his major work The Institutes of Elenctic Theology.

In this concise, one-volume systematic theology, celebrated scholar Anthony Thiselton covers the various Christian doctrines comprehensively with an eye to practical application for Christian discipleship. Written with students and busy ministers in mind, the book is readable and accessible, with its chapters organized into five fairly equal sections for teaching and learning convenience. Rather than setting out an abstract system, Thiselton explores theology as a living, organic whole. The book thus includes biblical foundations, historical thought, contemporary writers, and practical implications. Expertly incorporating biblical exegesis, philosophy, conceptual grammar, and hermeneutics, this volume is the most succinct multidisciplinary systematic theology available.

Petrus van Mastricht’s Theoretical-Practical Theology presents one of the most comprehensive methods of treating Christian doctrine. Students and pastors will find it a valuable model for moving from the text of Scripture to doctrinal formulation that will edify the people of God. Volume 3, The Works of God and the Fall of Man, is a book of origins—origins of the created order and of sin. Mastricht begins with a discussion of the decrees of God and how they establish His eternal purpose for everything. He then shows how the decrees are carried out in creation and in God’s continual providence. The volume concludes with Mastricht’s treatment of the apostacy of Adam from his original estate and the devastating effects of sin that followed. This is an important volume for learning how God governs all things, even the rebellious actions of those good things He created.
